He made the dumbest point, that any college kid would choose to do what Golson did and get a free year vacation to San Diego to practice football. Says it shouldn't have been hard on him at all. Basically giving Golson the finger.

You think Golson would prefer to sit out a year and practice without his teammates? What a dumbass.

Someone should tell Howard that Golson had to pay for that "free year vacation". $500 a week for 14 weeks… that adds up Dezzy boy.

I made that unclear. By free year, I meant time wise. Just playing football, no homework, tests, etc.

Basically Desmond said that any kid would choose to sit out a year if that was the case. Well sorry, Desmond, this is Notre Dame, not some shitty school in a shitty state like Michigan. I guarantee you Golson would have rather been on campus, in class, with his teammates, playing for Notre Dame.

I saw it to. I'm a longtime member of this site but haven't posted in awhile. But this made me come out of hiding.

That was one of the most disrespectful things I've ever seen. Disrespectful to Golson, obviously. But also disrespectful to Gene W. (can't spell his last name). He does this piece that I'm sure he worked hard on and Howard thinks its a joke? He laughs at it when its over? How can ESPN continue to employ this clown? Did anyone else see Pollock and Herbstreit? They looked uncomfortable and seemed like they didn't know what to say.

I guess scum players are all Rhodes Scholars who have never made a mistake.

So disrespectful.

Hey Dez, 31-0, but keep up all that great work in the classroom. I'm certain ALL of your players are perfect.

I'm watching now and he looks incredibly uncomfortable. So much fun. Burn baby burn.

Idiots asside, I thought it was a great to hear BK and Golson point out that he could have transferred and played right away, but that that would have been too easy. They emphasized doing it right and doing it at Notre Dame. Has to sound inspiring to anyone listening who's a ND type of kid.

Aaaaand I watch for five minutes and Lee already says something mildly racist. "The problem with B1G recruiting is that skill players only want to play in the sunshine..."

Really Lee? I thought everyone liked warm weather. What's different about skill players that you would say that?

Basically said if Michigan had worked as hard as Everett, they would have better off.

If Michigan had worked 1/2 as hard as Everett did the result would have been a bit different last week.

Once again, though, Dez had to find a way to belittle Everett after the piece.

What a clown, and so incredibly jealous of Notre Dame.

Atta boy George. Howard is the definition of scum. Just a despicable person. Not even saying that as an ND fan. He was just as disrespectful to the guy who did the piece as he was with Golson, IMO.

Let's hope ND gets a college game day at some point this year... Every time he talks, chants of 'thirty one, nothing'...

I'm not any more bent out shape about what Desmond was saying as Notre Dame haters are when Lou gets going. ESPN gave up on being a news station that showed games a long time ago to play "oh no he didn't." It is what it is.

IrishSteelhead, I understand what you're saying. Lou has us in the playoffs right now, and I'm fine with people knocking him/us for that.

But what Desmond did was personal. He completely undermined everything Golson went through, basically saying 'BS, you had it made. None of that was difficult for you'. That's unacceptable and I know Lou would never publicly blast an individual in that situation.

Free vacation year, fucking bullshit. Getting separated from his friends, kicked out of school, embarrassed nationally? Sound like a vacation? He worked his ass off to get back here and to work over Howard's boys. That is demeaning to Golson and Whitfield. If it was a vacation, he wouldn't have come back. He would have gone 1AA and torn it up at a school where he wouldn't have to work.

Good point. Just remember a lot of writers work long hours to provide the dialogue for these shows, and if people want to get pissed and spout off about what somebody on camera says, they should blast the root: ESPN.

*Desmond Howard is a bubbling douchebag

Seriously? ESPN runs a POSITIVE story about EG and you're trying to spin it into "ESPN hates ND" because one of their analysts talked some shit about it? Desmond Howard is a professional troll and it's funny to see you all get worked up about him. His job with respect to ND is to agitate the fan base, just like Lou is there to agitate the haters. They cancel each other out.

But that is only their jobs because ESPN has chosen to pander to the lowest common denominator. If ESPN were trying to put on a professional show, then Lou and Desmond, and all of the other former players and coaches, would be there to provide insightful commentary from a former insider's perspective. That's what their job SHOULD be. But it isn't. Because ESPN has lost their ethical compass. Long ago, in fact.

Think you misinterpreted my point. ESPN is trying so hard to be "hip and edgy" under the guise of still showing puff pieces that leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy to perpetuate the illusion of honest and factual reporting. You could replace ND with any other program in that story (ex. Golson is at Stanford), and the sentiment is the same from one of the talking heads obligated to stir s-hit up for viewers. They know what sells, so do the writers. A puff piece is fuel for the controversial "dude go to ESPN and listen to DH" spike.

IDC about his team bias, but you don't mock the journey an individual like Golson has taken. Pick on teams, not players, especially not ones who have had hardships.

How is this racist? The difference is that most skill players are not pushing 300 pounds, so it is theoretically easier for them to cool their bodies. Big fat guys don't like physical exertion in the heat. I thought that was pretty common knowledge?

Yeah ok. I've heard similar statements made by tons of SEC and ACC fans, and they're not often talking about the player's BMIs.
