I'm listening to the Allen County Dispatch online. Sounds like they caught the guy in a bean field. Haven't heard anything about the other guy yet.

Edit: The place they caught him is about a half hour from my house.

Said he was armed "with a pitchfork".

Other guy is pinned down in the field.

Thank God... This kid is friggin' sick.

Charon is about 35 minutes from my house. They're just getting back on their feet.

how is someone escaping from presumably a maximum security prison in 2014...

Yea, no kidding. Maximum or not, they haven't release how he escaped yet.

Freaky stuff. From the sounds of it, this guy might have been lucky the cops found him before some of the vigilantes did.

He was 16 years old when he was convicted. They rarely put kids under 18 in with general population max security felons. That would pretty much be a death sentence for most kids.

While many believe that is what he should have got, a death penalty wasn't what he was sentenced to.

He plead guilty when he was 18 and was tried as an adult.

Did they catch the other guy? I wonder if he used Lane to get media attention and police attention away from his escape.

There was actually three of them.

Lane was caught at around 1:30'ish I think.

The other guy (last name began with an 'O') was at 4:30am, but they didn't say where.

The third, who escaped at the same time, was caught literally right after he escaped. Apparently he couldn't outrun the officers.

Why is someone who killed 3 people in a medium security prison...

The prison you are in doesn't necessarily reflect the crime itself. Although your crime may initially account for your security level for incarceration, later you may be transferred based on your behavior while in the prison system. If you are a petty criminal who has engaged in violent or illegal behavior while in prison, you will be transferred to a higher security penitentiary.

On the flip side, if you committed a drastic crime but were a "model inmate" while behind bars, you will be transferred to a lower security prison. In TN, for example, getting shipped to the low/medium side of Riverbend Maximum Security Institution is considered a reward as it is a "safe" campus with far less violence or gang behavior inside.

Getting shipped to the "high side", however, is only for those inmates who continued their violent behavior while incarcerated and is the worst place in TN to be shipped. 23 hrs a day in your cell with one hour in the "bird cage" (chain link yard about the size of a volleyball court) and the chance to shower every other day and only time spent out of your cell is in shackles, including in the shower.
