Is the '15 recruiting class getting smaller when guys like Carlisle and Farley play like it would be foolish to let them walk away without a 5th year?

Good point. They both played inspired.

Carlisle looked like the player we expected when he came to ND. The foot's healed and he's learned his new position.

It's a two part thing. Farley has improved a lot, and BVG has put him in a position to shine.

completely agree. Bob D played a specific system and tried to find players that could fill roles, BVG seems to cater his system to what players can do and excel at.......fantastic start to the season for Farley, very happy for him!

Agree, give Farley credit for delivering, but give BVG credit for recognizing a players strengths and weaknesses and putting them in a position to shine.

Played great. I trashed him hard after Rice, but he played mistake-free last night. Great to see.

This has been such an amazing start to the season! If there is one kid that I am truly happy for it is Mathias! He has been straight balling out so far. Very happy for him!

I think confidence was a problem early on last game. He looked skittish at times and unsure. Last night after his first big hit, it seemed to all disappear. Great to see. We are gonna need him

He keeps playing like this, he might just get drafted... who would have thought that before the season started?

Yep. Remember how many hated on Harrison Smith when he was shuffled around and looked lost? He had a great last year and is an NFL starter. Maybe the light is "coming on" (or injuries are healed), for Farley.

Unless our player is a total hothead that screws stuff up because he's out of control, I don't see why anyone would dislike
one of our own for not being as good as you want them to be. At some point, being a fan is about pulling for what you got!

I was very critical of him last year. I will gladly say he has surprised me. Keep it up Matthias!

Its fine to be critical, but he doesn't owe the fans anything accept effort--not directed at WCD.

Everybody owes Mathias Farley a huge apology. With as rude and classless, (and wrong) as some of you were, oral sex wouldn't even make up for your treatment of a player that has always given his best. Not even if you hired someone that looked like Kate Upton, and performed like a Dyson.

He keeps playing like this, he might just get drafted... who would have thought that before the season started?

I'm glad people can see that Diaco was trash and inherited a bunch of studs. I'm so glad he's gone.

I'm glad people can see that Diaco was trash and inherited a bunch of studs.

The 2012 DB corp consisted of 1) a converted soccer player recruited for WR, 2) a converted RB recruited for RB, a converted WR recruited for WR, and 4) a safety that everyone thought was garbage going into the year.

He got the defense to play flawlessly for an entire regular season. The level of cohesion was simply absurd. Those aforementioned studly DL played something like 23 snaps together in 2013, and they were still pretty good. I'm honestly wondering if you know what trash is. Tenuta is trash, Diaco is not.

My point has always been this: you pull for the guys who put on that helmet.

As fans

We don't experience all the behind the scenes work.

We don't endure the physical stress that football doles out on the body.

When I hear or read about fans dissing their own, I think:

A constructive criticism is one thing.

Acting like a fan from an opposing team is another.

And you know who you are...

Keep balling out, Mathias!

I wondered what kind of quick impact Pat Eilers would have on the defense when he came, which is why I posted that article in Mathias's thread. I was thinking of Farley and Shumate in particular. It is really tough, what happened to Kyle McCarthy, and I wish him my best. But thinking it through that has to be incredibly tough on players, from the purely emotional aspect to, position and communication in the defensive backfield.

If only someone here had gone to bat for Farley before the season started...

Seriously though, does anyone remember which thread that was in? I want to read back through it while thoughtfully nodding my head and stroking my chin.

I think it was in the depth chart thread. I ripped Farley pretty good...and as jimmy Mac suggested, so far he is making me eat crow. I hope he keeps it up. But I still have the Stanford game burnt into my memory.
