remember when Nix would say Miami is his favorite team, and he was ON the ND football team. I remember him even tweeting miami stuff during bowl season

He tweeted quite a bit about the Miami HEAT, but never anything about the Hurricanes.

SEC recruiting battle. I feel like we are being really out recruited here. I just don't think we have an elite recruiting staff it's honestly very suspect.

I hear that. But the kid lives so close to LSU and it's a lot easier for them to recruit him due to proximity. It's like when LSU was recruiting Sheldon Day who is from Indiana...

I think that's an impossible assertion to make in this case. Jerry lives in LA near LSU and is best friends with the head coaches son. Those are innate advantages - has absolutely nothing to do with recruiting harder or more effectively. They simply have every single built in advantage possible besides his apparent childhood fandom (and even that appears split).

The fact that we were able to get him to commit over LSU in the first place and have it stick for this long is an accomplishment for the staff honestly. How often to prospects like Tillery ever leave the state? And when is it ever not for another SEC team?

I've given him the benefit of the doubt and been on the 'let's see how it plays out' side as much as anyone.

But at this point I'm fine with throwing Jerry deuces and going all in on the 2016 Ohio crew.

Jerry sports LSU everywhere he goes, travels to games and is on campus every weekend. Never heard a peep of him recruiting FOR Notre Dame, not even on twitter.

If you want to go to LSU, do it. Harry Heistand will be just fine without you. We are ND!

I am not just questioning this staff efforts with Tilery put the whole unit as a whole. Now when the staff singles out a kid and Kelly goes after him we usually win. But I swear we get out recruited by the South all the time. Don't use the money excuse either. Don't we go into every teams backyard and take there top player? Why is Tiley any different?

We rarely ever go into the South and take any top player. Who are you referring to? Besides rare cases where Mom is a Notre Dame fan (Tuitt - who we really beat out Georgia Tech for, not any of the big schools), we don't do it. I have no idea who you would be talking about.

When was the last time a high academic school, including ND, went into Louisiana, Alabama, or Georgia and pulled a kid one of those in-state schools wanted badly?

There are reasons it doesn't happen, and you are right it has nothing to do with money.

There are tons of reasons why recruiting in the South is different than recruiting every other part of the country, from the culture of CFB down there to the socioeconomic backgrounds of the athletes to Bible Belt outlook on Catholics. This isn't a new topic and Whiskey, IM8, Lax and many other better posters than I have covered this in exhausting detail. Recruiting in the South is different for every team who isn't from the South. Notre Dame then has additional obstacles to overcome with the academics and overcoming misconceptions about what ND is. It is really tiring to constantly read about how the staff isn't doing a good job in the South.

I concur. Jerry should support, and encourage, friends and relatives involved in the LSU program. Like Steve Elmer, Tillery made an early commitment, and that verbal commitment will stick - quality offensive tackle + quality college program + quality offensive line coach = a comfortable college fit. Jerry Tillery is gonna walk that walk!

GBDomer,
I would be happy to give you my reasons in a PM why we will not be pulling elite players from SEC country being from a Catholic family down here and all.

Would love to hear it bro. I just think we are being out recruited and that is not good on a staff that doesn't have elite recruiters. PM ME

1) How are we being out recruited by LSU for Jerry Tillery?

2) Tony Alford is not an elite recruiter?

Right. If Tillery actually flips, maybe we've been out-recruited. Maybe. Or maybe he's just a Louisiana kid who decides to stay close to home. Also yesterday I watched two stud RBs from Florida wearing gold helmets, among others.
But the reality is there are so many cultural, social, academic and football hurdles between us and so many southern kids that it's hard to put not landing more of them on the staff.

Can we all at least agree that the odds are getting slimmer by the day that he signs here?

Good point. She might already be ay ND? Rocket94 was the one that said that...maybe he could answer.

Saw it from another board. She could be at ND already not sure. It was mentioned she does or did go to Evangel Christian in Shreveport.

if this comes down to the promiscuity of our respective coeds, I think LSU has this locked up. I jest, I jest....
