I tend to agree. It's pretty ridiculous that people are offended by swearing.

Seriously though. Not cool. The asterisks in replace of swear words reminds me of white people saying "the n-word" instead of just saying the ****ing word. The intent is the same, the message is the same, everything's the ****ing same. So let's cut out the kindergarten censorship.

To answer the question posed in the title of the thread: I don't tend to mind the occasional use of swearing and the occurrence of swearing (via working around the filter) was generally reasonable before I dropped the filter a few months back (which is why I decided to drop the filter). Since dropping the filter, though, the swearing has become gratuitous in a way that has disrupted otherwise thoughtful discussion; several members have made note of this and I tend to agree with them.

There are plenty of places out there where you can have at it, but there's a minimum level of respect and courtesy that we want to maintain here and until we find a better way of ensuring that bare minimum is met, the filter is going to filter out a few words.

Love the thread title though. What a thoughtful, apt comparison.

In the immortal words of Lenny Bruce "If you can't say fuck, you can't say fuck the government." Or more importantly, fuck Michigan.
