Take out the pitch forks
To answer the question posed in the title of the thread. I don't tend to mind the occasional use of swearing and the occurrence of swearing (via working around the filter) was generally reasonable before I dropped the filter a few months back (which is why I decided to drop the filter). Since dropping the filter, though, the swearing has become gratuitous in a way that has disrupted otherwise thoughtful discussion; several members have made note of this and I tend to agree with them.
There are plenty of places out there where you can have at it, but there's a minimum level of respect and courtesy that we want to maintain here and until we find a better way of ensuring that bare minimum is met, the filter is going to filter out a few words.
Love the thread title though. What a thoughtful, apt comparison.
