This is all good news, but with Ykili being so far removed from the media on his recruitment, I just can't get too excited. If he schedules an official (which I don't believe he has to this point?), that would change. I hope Cooks can reel him in! Would be a great get out of Cali.

I thought that was the case, but it raises a question for me. Coaches are not supposed to discuss recruits until they are signed correct? Is that something that would be a violation if discussing publicly with a analyst, or if off the record is not problematic? I always thought that sources in the case of recruiting were people that coaches confided in and then they give the scoop to the reporters. I just wonder because there is probably not a better source than a coach that is pitching these kids.

I don't know exactly who but there are definitely sources inside the program that give updates to the media off the record. Whether that's a coach or people inside the recruiting office, I don't know. I would imagine a little of both. It's part of that Love/Hate relationship that programs have with those type of sites (BGI/II).

I know for basketball at least our coaches talk directly and go to dinner with recruitnicks from sites like scout and rivals. Coaches are not allowed to publicly talk about recruits, but if it is private and not official than anyone can have a conversation.

Thanks guys. I always knew it was something like that, but I was never quite sure where the line was exactly.

I happened across this thread on the USC247 board. Ignoring the clowns that frequent the place, they still seem confident in landing Ross. Anything they know that we don't? I can't see Ross having a relationship with a dbag like Schrader, but who knows...

LOL Loy at it again

Per Scout, visiting for the Stanford game. Doesn't have a leader, but if he had a top 3 Notre Dame would be in there. USC, Oregon, and Oklahoma are the other favorites

UCLA. If he is deciding between ND and USC, and he is leaning ND, he will go to UCLA.

They seem to have our number, big time.

Or maybe the reality is they have been way under-performing on the recruiting trail for a long time, and they are finally getting to where they should have been.

Probably this in a big way.

I mean... the irony is that they have Schraeder... they have to realize that right?

One of the biggest reporter meltdowns of all time was that USC class under Kiffin that flamed out hard while Scott kept swearing up and down that all was well. Looked like a total clown, and did hilarious backtracking.

This topic came up due to some news on John Reid that I'll post in his thread. Per Sampson ND feels they're going to get Ross and after talking to people around Ross or that work with him he agrees.

Yup, a few people on ISD with sources close to Ross stated as much last month. Seems like pretty much everyone on the ND side of things believes they lead, and people close to him think he's leaning towards ND.

But per Schraeder "Ross will be a Trojan" so might as well stop recruiting him.

I tried to let the staff know this but they thought wasting their time was fun. Lol.

If that's the case we absolutely knocked it out of the park on db's this year. Really unbelievable. When combined with Luke, Butler, Watkins etc ...we are set for the next 4 years and can focus on two blue chips a year for a few years.

However Ross may be too damn good to not move to wr

I think he could be great at both, but I don't see how we can add him to the gridlock at WR without potentially reducing his impact. We're going to need a lot of DBs given how many teams we play that air it out, and while I love the guys we have on the roster right now, not many are proven quantities just yet. Also, injuries haven't been our friend in the secondary so having him back there just helps my blood pressure when we're on D.

If you move anyone, I would think its Nick Coleman to WR and Ashton White to safety.

Moving Ross to WR is a lot like moving Redfeild there. No doubt he'd be great, but there is a higher use for that skill set!

Coleman is a shut down half the field guy IMHO . No way he is going anywhere but Coleman island.

LOL! Do you think he is better than Ross and Crawford? Crawford could be a good slot, I guess.

Coleman looks pretty comfortable on offense, though.

Not sure why you guys want to move any of them to WR. We have plenty of quality WRs already, we dont need more.

Exactly.

Coleman - CB
Crawford - CB
Ross - DB
White - SS
Fertitta - $$
McKinney - FS

Room for everyone.

And keep in mind guys that we haven't exactly been loading up on secondary talent lately. So this is exactly what we need.

Butler, Luke, Redfield -2013
Watkins - 2014

Maybe add Tranquill but I think he's at LB eventually.

Just watched his film for the first time. Guy's incredibly fast twitched. Could be the next Sammy Walkins if he puts on ~15 LBs. I'd take him over St. Brown at WR, but let's get them both!

Good WR's are a dime a dozen compared to shutdown CB's. When you find a shutdown CB you use him at CB. As mentioned they take away half the field and make life so much easier for the front seven. Get two shutdown CB's and you're living the dream.

I'm not quite as enthusiastic, but I LOVE Nick Coleman. Reminds me of a K. Russell - except he has actually played corner in HS.
