Oh yee of little faith... Like anything said on a message board is going to make a difference. You guys sound like a bunch of friggin women! Michigan is getting walked this year....

I'm with you Irishman77, 100%... Though I think it will be closer to 3 TD's.

Yeah, you've changed my mind. Forget recent history and the fact this is a rivalry game...I'm going to do you one better...we're going to win by 73 TDs!!!

Please pass me the margarita.

Too bad Michigan won't be undefeated when we play them...App State is going to run it up on them. This might take a little sizzle out of the game.

vs. Appalachian State
@ Notre Dame
vs. Miami (OH)
vs. Utah
vs. Minnesota
@ Rutgers
vs. Penn State
@ Michigan State
vs. Indiana
@ Northwestern
vs. Maryland
@ Ohio State

You'd think people would learn not to underestimate Michigan after losing 4 of the last 5.

I don't think it's underestimating Michigan, rather than us crapping our pants each time we play them. I mean, Michigan was who we thought they were, and we let them off the hook!

Even Willingham managed to go 2-1 against UM. Weis, who couldn't recruit or coach defense to save his life, went 2-3. Diaco, who struggled mightily with mobile QBs, only managed to go 1-3 against Shoelace and Gardner.

BvG's 4-3 Under should do a much better job of putting pressure on and containing Gardner. So here's hoping the recent run of voodoo bullshit is at an end.

I work with a former Michigan player and it is interesting to hear his feelings on ND. Surprisingly, he hates them more than MSU and OSU. He said it wasn't even close. It just seems there is more hatred on their side from the players then there is on ND's side.

Given the way college football seems to be trending toward mobile QBs, a 4-3 should serve us better than the 3-4 since a 4-3 typically calls on DEs to set the edge and contain the QB/RB, forcing the runner back inside for the DTs or LBs.

ive noticed alot of SCUM fans i know too are kinda meh about their rivalry with MSU. ND and OSU are definitely their biggest two.

I read John Bacon's book Three and Out about the Rich Rod tenure and you could definitely tell they hated ND way more than any other team though. Possibly because they had a better chance of winning the ND matchup than they ever did the OSU one in his tenure.

Just found out I got a ticket for this game. I'm pumped.

Unfortunately, I just realized its a night game and a three hour drive each way.

Except Mike Elston!

Even Willingham managed to go 2-1 against UM. Weis, who couldn't recruit or coach defense to save his life, went 2-3. Diaco, who struggled mightily with mobile QBs, only managed to go 1-3 against Shoelace and Gardner.

Someone else mentioned how 4-3's work better against mobile quarterbacks than 3-4's. Remember, not all three fours are created equal. A team can still have an attacking 3-4; ND didn't. A team can set a scheme more easily on a 3-4 to set a spy on the mobile offensive threat; ND really didn't. A team can set a scheme to bring out or over an extra edge player to account for the pitch man; ND didn't. So ND put incredible pressure on some linebackers to perform what they were not best at, with no help or extra support. Blind, deaf, and dumb offensive coordinators could see that. The teams with the equal or greater skills will usually win, but the situation at ND on defense would create an opportunity for teams with less overall skill, and one or two great players to hand around. In Michigan, Purdue, and Pitt's case, they did.

Complementing that, the offense was hamstrung in ways that no team should have to deal with. To oversimplify, any team with enough speed on defense, and the ability to disguise their own schemes, could make things rough for ND's offense. Todd Graham, and Greg Mattison come to mind. Mattison's backside all in blitz was unstoppable, because with personnel, they would be up at least one man, and even if he was one legged and blindfolded, he could out-steam the ND quarterback. And at times, ND was in a situation where they had no back blocking for the qb. The hurries and bumps, even with the offensive line doing an outstanding job, led to poor progression and forcing the ball. The rest we don't need a reminder about.

So, I think the addition of BVG, if for nothing more than the unknown quantity of what he really is going to bring, and the addition of Matt LaFleur, and changes in the OC and play calling, are moves that will bring the mojo to defeat the juju of the recent voodoo bullshit, to which you so despairingly refer, Monsieur Whiskey!

So much for voodoo science! What ND really needs is to curb stomp Michigan this year. Now their web sites all say that they may go 12-0! Their tight end turned wide receiver is rated higher by ESPN than any player from ND. (I hope this is bitter feed for KR and JS, BK and EG also!) They have more players in the top 100 (3) than ND does (1 @ 91).

But this year ND has a 3X5 offensive line. Fifteen players ready. The most and overall best any of the experts can remember! (That is why this offensive line could end the season better than last year's though we lost the best left guard and tackle combination ever, with Watt and Martin. Remember, BK left little doubt the Martin leadership remains with Nick, and what all the starters picked up from Zack. That will be a huge point. Also, if we get the production out of any of the young defensive linemen, and Ishaq delivers, it will be against an untested, rebuilding offensive line of Michigan. The trenches are key this year!

Because the real hope for me is that we curb stomp Michigan so bad we shake 'em. And Chuck Martin heads up with little Irish and ends the Hoke era!

FUCK MICHIGAN!

And here is to the day it isn't even worth wasting the time saying it!

It's because, if memory serves, ND accounts for fully half of the quality wins during our last two coaching regimes:

2013 ND
2012 MSU
2011 ND, OSU, VT
2010 ND
2009 ND
2008 WISC

First time I've ever repped a post that made me physically ill.

And you're stretching the definition of "quality" with the bolded. We had an offense, at least.

At least we were good enough to count as "quality."

And the antidote for your illness should be counting the total number of quality wins UM had under RR and BH, versus ND in any time period that doesn't include 2007.
