Figured I'd start a broad thread since Training Camps are upon us. And I didn't want to clog the free agency/trade thread with this:

I was listening to Colin Cowherd make his predictions for this season. I turned it off when he said that he thinks the Steelers will go 7-9 because he doesn't like where they're heading. Apparently getting Mike Mitchell, LeGarrette Blount, and getting faster on defense through the draft isn't heading in the right direction. Whatever dude

Excited to see how the different companies match up this fiscal year. Who's going to gain a big financial windfall by threatening to move to LA? Who's going to reinstate a convicted felon to full employment? I only wish these corporations were publicly traded.

Go Pats!

I'm not a pats fan but I got grok and Brady on my fantasy and I traded away players and got rly high draft picks with the trade so I'm rly happy about this news. Brady(for fantasy) gets almost double as many points with gronk in lineup then when he's out

I am a diehard Giants fan, but cant deny that with a healthy Gronk, that offense is amazing to watch. Brady is a surgeon.

I'm really happy for Stephon, but damn, if he'd played healthy and in shape last year, he would have cashed a much bigger check after the draft. I know a lot of it was injury-related, but I hope that still puts a chip on his shoulder and drives him. It'd serve him well, and we need more high-performing ND guys in the league.

A lot of people have been sleeping on Stephon Tuitt and don't realize how big of a steal Pittsburgh got in the middle of the 2nd round. He fits their scheme perfectly and can be a starter for a solid 10 years if healthy. With the additions of him and Shazier, Pittsburgh's front 7 has improved a lot.

my buddy said bengals should have got him to take a pay cut for being ugly. "Not even marketable" was the best quote.

So he's saying I should take it as an insult when my friends say I'm Andy Dalton? Oh man, that just ruined my day!

As a Giants fan, sad to hear about Wilson. Lucky for us, Andre Williams looks like he'll be x2 the RB that Wilson is.

Was looking at Denver's schedule. I'd say they and the Pats are both pretty much dead even with talent. Their schedule is SO hard compared to New England's.

Denver plays 9 games against playoff teams from last year (vs. Indy, vs. KC, at Seattle, vs. San Fran, vs. SD, at New England, at KC, at SD, at Cincy) in addition to playing vs. Arizona and at St Louis. That is an absolutely daunting schedule.

New England plays just 6 playoff teams from last year (although Chicago and Detroit will be tough). Denver might be better than NE but end up as the #2 seed. Really don't see Denver winning more than 12 games with that schedule.

This is the funniest thing I've read in weeks.

When I read the comment, "Marvin Harrison: killed a guy" I did a double take. I never heard about that. Did some google research and was pretty startled by what I found. How was this not a bigger story?

Have you ever wondered what happened to former Indianapolis Colt and Super Bowl winner Marvin Harrison?

In 2008, a year before his retirement, a strange thing happened to the Philadelphia native on his way to ending his NFL Hall of Fame career. He found himself involved in a shooting incident, not once but twice. The second time Harrison’s name came up in a shooting it involved the death of the victim of the previous shooting. The same victim involved in the first shooting. According to reports this much we know:

The source said the alleged victim (a known local drug dealer), came into the bar, Playmakers,(a bar which Marvin Harrison owns), about 5 p.m. and engaged in an argument with Harrison. The victim then left the bar, heading to his car, with Harrison following. Gunfire broke out and the victim was hit in the hand. The victim’s car was riddled with bullets. Marvin Harrison denied any involvement in the shooting but admitted getting into a fight with the victim.

A source told the Philadelphia Daily News that a 2-year-old boy suffered a cut under his eye from glass that shattered when an errant bullet hit a car windshield, according to police. Originally it was reported that a young girl had been injured. When police came to the scene, no one would identify the shooter. Yet the police found at least 6 shell casings on the ground near Harrison’s garage that matched the bullets recovered from the shooting victims vehicle.

A year or so later, the victim did an interview with ESPN:60 where he openly identified Marvin Harrison as the shooter. A few weeks later, the victim was gunned down in front of a North Philly take out joint. As he lay dying, his final statement to police when they asked him who did the shooting was, “ Yall already know, the same thing from before, it was Marvin Harrison”.

Marvin was questioned by Philadelphia police in response to the first shooting, and of course he denied having any involvement. Yet, he was never questioned regarding the second shooting which resulted in death. In 2010, Harrison was arrested by Philadelphia police for going the wrong way down a one way street, a block away from where the original shooting took place. When police asked if he had any weapons before they searched his car, Harrison said “No”. Police searched his car and found guns, so Marvin was subsequently arrested.

The irony to this story to me is, Marvin Harrison was a quiet player with very little flash. He stayed close to his Philly roots by buying up a lot of property in his area. He was the bouncer at his own sports bar and would evict or not let people come in who had guns and drugs on them. The person he got into the argument with and allegedly shot is a known drug dealer w/ felonies on his record. From my perspective, it appears that Harrison simply attempted to take justice in his own hands. I wonder how many people in that neighborhood were actually upset at Marvin for essentially “getting a bad guy” off the streets? Maybe this is why the Philadelphia district attorney’s office is slow to look into charging Marvin Harrison with a crime. Maybe to them, he did the city of Philadelphia a favor. The very curious case of Marvin Harrison.

Shh. Don't you know the Colts are a model franchise? Nobody associated with them does anything bad.

In all seriousness, I didn't even know that the victim was killed a year after the first incident. But uh, yeah. That might get more airing next year when he's up for the HoF.

I just heard the Cowboys defense described as "an eternally open door". That sounds about right.

Yeah I thought it was pretty crazy. That defense had so much talent...but it never seemed to be fully healthy.

Saw this and thought the Zak DeOssie anecdotes were funny:

Remembering the lessons learned as an NFL ball boy. | SportsonEarth.com : Dan Pompei Article

Giants long snapper Zak DeOssie, ball boy New England Patriots 2000-2001: "Larry Izzo was a special teams player, and he recognized I was Steve DeOssie's son when I walked in the door. He took me under his wing, and all of the linebackers then sort of adopted me as their ball boy. I took care of them. They let me get a pair of shoes. It was an incredible experience.

"Coach Belichick asked me during camp if I like Bon Jovi. I told him I did, even though I really didn't know much about him. He said, 'Great, we're going to the Tweeter Center tonight to see him.' I said, 'Are you kidding? What about bed check?' He said, 'Don't worry about it.' I went to the concert with coach Belichick, his wife at the time, his right hand man Berj Najarian and his wife. I'm standing next to Coach Belichick and we're jamming out to Bon Jovi. I'm a junior in high school. To have him include me in that was pretty cool. Those memories will stay with me for a long time.

"Then when the Patriots went to the Super Bowl, Coach Belichick let me come to the game and be a ball boy on the sidelines. No responsibilities. Just stay out of the way. And I was there on the field to watch Adam Vinatieri kick the game winner against the Rams... Fast forward five years, I'm playing against the Patriots and Larry Izzo in the Super Bowl my rookie year. I'm lining up for a punt snap and half of the punt return team is calling me ball boy and yelling at me to go get them a Gatorade after I botch the snap."

Zak DeOssie: "I started navigating the rest of my football career by emulating what I observed when I was a ball boy. Watching these guys showed me what it takes to play. When I got to the Giants as a rookie, I think I felt a lot more comfortable than the typical rookie because I had been around training camps, and been around that championship organization.

"I was a quarterback in high school at the time. Coach Belichick would break down film with me and tell me about my throwing motion. Even Drew Bledsoe and Tom Brady would throw with me and help me with my technique. One day Rohan Davey had to go to a funeral back home. I'm sitting there on the sideline as a ball boy and all of a sudden Coach Belichick says, 'Alright, Zak, you are up. Get in there.' It was scout offense versus starting defense in a seven-on-seven passing drill. I hesitated. He said, 'No, get in there, you are in there now.' I tapped Damon Huard on the shoulder and said, 'Excuse me Mr. Huard, Coach Belichick said I'm taking these reps.' He shrugged me off and laughed and me. 'Get out of here, Zak.' Then coach called him off. I took four reps and went 0-for-4. The defense on the first play did an all-out blitz. The second play I threw a perfect pass to a rookie tight end and he dropped it. Coach reamed him out for it.

"I didn't know anything about long snapping then. Never did it in high school. One day Coach Belichick asked me if I could snap with the rookies. That was my first long snap in an organized situation. A couple of the resident coaches would come in from other college programs. After that first session, one from UNLV came up to me and said, 'I want to offer you a long snapper scholarship.' I laughed. I thought he was joking. He was dead serious."

Zak DeOssie: "My last day of training camp as a ball boy, I came back from the shower, took my sandals off and then wiped my feet. Both of my soles were dark purple. They had this FBI powder. Once it got any sort of moisture on it, it would turn into a permanent, dark purple ink. The purple dye was all over my room. Once I got home to my house, I got a bunch of stains on my bedroom floor. All I had was ten shirts at the time, and all ten were tie dye purple. No one would admit who did it, and I was bent out of shape. I later found out it was the punter, Ken Walter. That's what specialists do, they play practical jokes."

Zak DeOssie: "We did the math once. The ball boy rate was $100 a week. We added up the hours and figured out we were paid 32 cents an hour."
