I think it's outstanding to hear that GB is putting in good work on the recruiting front. A kid that loved ND, but came close to transferring, but now seems to be all in. Would think he would be able to give a first hand account to all recruits about what it really means to be a student athlete at ND

Didn't want to bump his thread with everyone waiting patiently for an update, so putting it here.

Holy cow, I knew Soso wanted to play hoops in college too, but he can really ball:

Thanks to Keuhn, I like this even better. The way things are going, our football team will have a better team than our (men's) basketball team!

You guys think my football comparisons are bad?

Well his basketball film reminded me of a younger....... Dwayne Wade.

Quote from Soso in the article:

Jamabo said the players on the team are the kind of guys he feels he could fit in with.
“Most definitely,” he said. “The guys there have their heads on right. They do know that football is going to end one day and that’s why they chose Notre Dame. Football is not a lifetime thing, but Notre Dame is a lifetime decision. All of those kids are just awesome.”

This seems to usually be a good thing when we hear a comment like that.

Even if he doesn't choose ND it sounds like to me that he realizes there is a life after football and ND gives him the ability to have a great life after that.

Coach Cooks & Alford are doing what they have done in the past putting ND right there with some of the best teams in the country. And giving ND a chance. Give them a raise.

LOL the collective optimism on this forum is hilarious. There's still a low chance we get a guy like Soso in the end.

Go read through the Blake thread again. He was saying allllllll the right things and everyone here (including me) collectively said there's no chance he would flip barring a 2014 season disaster. Here we are in June and he's already gone.

Point is that you can't get your hopes up for any of these guys until signing day has comfortably passed. Of course they are going to say good things following their trip to ND... why wouldn't they? However, in the end (presumably after a few visits from the bag man), most of these recruits end up at the football factories close to home.

I would have to agree. Many of his quotes have me really excited. But my excitement is certainly tempered by quotes of us "likely" to get an official visit and where this visit certainly "bumps us up". Given his other quotes, I was certainly hoping for more then the visit "bumping us up."

This isn't a shot at anyone, but I don't get the wave of "don't get your hopes up" comments following the Barnett flip. I agree you shouldn't get emotionally invested, but isn't the point of following recruiting to get excited about who your team is trying to bring in?

I have no idea what Soso or any recruits will do come signing day, and it does suck to get burned by a recruit (although, it's really not you getting burned), but I think it's totally reasonable for a fan of a football team to get excited when a very good football player likes what your team pitched him during a visit.

Per Tj, regarding timelines and leaders.

He has mentioned a possible decision by end of summer/early fall, and one closer to all-star games or even NSD. He's not clear yet what he plans to do. I suspect it will play out.

I also think UCLA and Stanford are two programs in the running here, along with ND obviously. And there are always the local schools.

Seems kinda self loathing to me...

IMO, you get a feel after following recruiting for a while who is and who isn't a serious canidate. Whether the kid really fits in and gets what ND is about is a huge part of it. Not everyone is comfortable at LSU.

The fact that SoSo seems to get ND tells me we have a very good shot, along with Stanford and maybe Texas.

The schools I hate, though, are OSU and UCLA because they have salesman who can sell a school the same way ND does, without following through.

I hear ya...but isn't that what we do here? Like, isn't that one of the purposes of this board? I just get excited to hear the positive quotes and hang on the words to see if a recruit really get's ND or not. Soso didn't "have" to day all of those things or he could have been shorter with his answers. I think he was feeling it. I hope he's still feeling it after he visits UCLA.

Hahaha, no I was surprisingly not upset about the Barnett decommitment. The Hopkins stuff was bullshit and kind of pissed me off, but the decommitment itself didn't bother me. I'm numb to that stuff ever since Greenberry.

If you refuse to get high hopes on any recruit until after NSD... then why do you spend so much time reading the threads during their visits?

There's a difference between following your team and hoping for the best with these guys and creaming your pants every time they make a positive comment after a visit. After every visit, we hear about how all these guys "have a mature outlook on CFB" or "seem like a real ND man" or "recognize the value of the degree after football" ..... and then 90% go and sign with a Pac12 or SEC school. Seriously, go look... it's almost every time.

I'm a realist that's learned the hard way that many (if not most) 5 star kids don't work out at ND, regardless of them signing on NSD or not. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the visit appeared to go well. But let's recognize the fact that it's still a long shot.

All that being said, go ND!

You're not a realist, because you are interpreting the situation wrong. People are excited we are in it for SoSo. No one thinks he is a done deal. I doubt most people think we lead. But there is reason to believe we got our foot in the door, which is good.

Also, most 5-star kids don't work out anywhere. Unless you are Alabama, you get 1 or 2 a year if you are lucky. So everyone you throw in the mix is a good thing.

Of course the kid is a long shot, but he said the kind of things that indicate ND will be a player. Some of those same things also make Stanford, USC, and UCLA players. Those are not inconsistent.

I don't think that's true, but we need to keep in mind this lead may very well change. There's a ton of time left.

That's really all there is to be said at this point IMO.
