Waller may not have the most amazing offer list, but he's a 247 Composite Top 100 player, which would make him our highest rated QB recruit since Dayne Crist (aside maybe from He-With-No-Chest-Who-Will-Not-Be-Mentioned).
He fits our system. He's been favored to Oregon but they appear to going elsewhere. He's considering other Midwestern schools. I'd say he's certainly worth a good look. And his last tweet, FWIW, indicates that he fears no competition.

So we somewhat got lucky with Kizer last year and now we are hoping to get lucky with this kid from Servite?

Playing with fire on what I think is moist important position in CFB.

Not that I want Golson's career to be over I am a HUGE Zaire fan.

Looks like QB recruiting....

But last year we offered Kizer late iirc, got him on campus within a week, and he committed.

The QB dominoes fall very early and I believe almost all our targets committed to other schools in a two week period of time. Kizer was a gift just like this kid would be at this stage.

As far as Zaire, just pumped to see him play.

I bet we'll get at least one committed QB to visit. Blake's been committed since 2013. I'm sure a few QBs had interest in ND that knew it wasn't an option so they went elsewhere.

Fair enough. But when all the other dominoes fell we were holding a pretty good piece. There's no point in offering elite QB prospects when you already have one committed. We're at fallback plans now, for sure, but I don't know what else we're supposed to do, nor how that equates to "playing with fire," as we thought we had Barnett in the bag. Now: Shoot for the best available. That's what Waller is.

Playing with fire means you may get burned, right? Don't know what you call losing a top 10 QB that many say have the highest ceiling after 6 months of "commitment", but I call it getting burned.

As far as what else we were supposed to do, I don't know. You keep recruiting others and you could lose him anyways.

I do, however, agree that we have to find the next best fit. If that is this kid then let's lock him down.

But, like I originally said. We will be lucky for a second straight year if we land a QB this gifted, this late.

So what's the latest? Has he committed yet?

There are four prospects attending the Elite Eleven that have not committed - three from California, Sheriron Jones, Sam Darnold and Travis Waller, and one from Florida, Deondre Francois. Curiously, Alabama and Notre Dame are in the same predicament, trying to find a quarterback for the 2015 class. It is amazing how quickly quarterbacks commit to a program long before their senior season.

And it really says something about them when they follow through with it.

A gentlemen (first name is two initials) from the website that we aren't supposed to mention anymore was on Bill King's show this morning to talk about recruiting.

Bill King asked him between Waller and Barnett which one would you choose. He said it's close, but he would choose Waller (better runner). He went on to say it just depends on what you want from the QB position, for what ND wants to do, Barnett was the better option, but Waller is very close.

Just watched his highlights. Weird throwing motion, dunno what to think.

Went back and watched Kizer's and Morgan Mahalak's senior film... I think both of those guys had substantially better film than anyone left on the table in this class, and I wasn't even a big fan of Kizer.

Jones from Cali had better film to me than Waller, but is less of a run threat. Interested to see if we look for a late bloomer or made a hard run at Brady White.

Maybe Barnett could do us a favor and put in a good word for us to Waller. I think they've tweeted each other a few times.

Completely forgot Equanimeous St. Brown goes to Servite as well. If we make a good impression on him next week he could help get the wheels rolling on Waller.
