Damn, that sucks to miss out on Ty twice. I've always been a big believer in his potential as an offensive playmaker.
Since we never heard any more about USC missing that "deadline", I doubt we were seriously back in play this time around. Could be wrong though.
ANN ARBOR -- Ty Isaac is, officially, part of the Michigan football program.
Michigan formally announced the addition of Isaac on its official web site Tuesday afternoon. The former USC running back announced his intentions to transfer to Michigan last week.
"We're excited that Ty has decided to join the Michigan Football family," Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a written statement. "I know it was important for him to get back to the Midwest to be closer to his mom and family, so I think it's a great fit for everyone.
"Ty's a big back with really good speed and catches the ball extremely well out of the backfield. He certainly adds depth and competition to a position we feel very confident about."
Isaac rushed for 236 yards on 40 carries last season at USC, playing as a backup running back and appearing in 14 games. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
He becomes Michigan's first transfer since former quarterback Steven Threet joined the program from Georgia Tech in 2007.
While Isaac is officially on board, Michigan did not offer any answer as to when he'll be eligible to play.
Isaac is currently seeking a medical hardship waiver to gain immediate eligibility from the NCAA and play next season. His mother is reportedly dealing with complications from a surgical procedure to repair hearing loss.
If Isaac is granted eligibility, he'll be a sophomore in 2014 with three years left to play. If he's not, he'll have to sit out this season, and will have three years left as a redshirt sophomore starting in 2015.
Isaac's quest to gain eligibility this season could be tough, however, as NCAA compliance experts told MLive last week that both the severity of Isaac's mother's condition and the fact that his family home in Shorewood, Ill. is roughly 250 miles away from Ann Arbor will likely make it difficult to gain the waiver from the NCAA.
"(The family member's medical condition) doesn't have to be life-threatening, necessarily, but it would have to be something that prevented her from working or getting around, if it's a surgery for hearing loss, I'm not sure if that'll qualify, but it might," NCAA compliance expert and Bylaw Blog author John Infante said. "His bigger problem, though, is that you're required to transfer within 100 miles of the family member. Being four hours away or 200 miles probably isn't going to cut it.
"There are considerations that can trump that, one thing they say is that if you're dealing with someone suffering from such a serious illness that they've been given a defined amount of time left to live, then all other considerations are off the table. But in this case, it doesn't sound like that's the case."
I appreciate all the hate, but Michigan still needs an O-line for him to run behind. As bad as Michigan was running last year, it's hard for me to imagine it much better losing two tackles to the NFL.

Who's the 2nd OT they lost?
That's one position they've actually recruited very well. This comment surprises me.
Hopefully those recruits pan out, but as of yet I haven't seen it. Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped to land this kid, but until the Oline can run block there's not much point...unless any of these kids is Barry Sanders.
If you look at the ratings recently compiled, the ones which listed ND has having the top average lineman recruits in the last three seasons, Michigan was in the top five. Which is pretty damned good.
I know family of a kid that plays on the line for Michigan. Without going into detail, the problems may not all be with the current recruits. Some past players may have been disruptive to continuity, and some past coaches may not have had things together. It will be interesting to see how things change with the new coordinator, if at all.
(Was it a Borges problem, or is it a Hoke problem, to oversimplify.)
What's your feeling on Michigan this year? Seems like a pivotal one for Hoke and Co.
I think you're correct on it being an important year for Hoke. There's obviously talent on both sides of the ball, experience under center, a solid D Cord, and a favorable schedule. I think he needs to win MSU and ND, or beat osu (obviously all three would be great), and convincingly beat the teams that should be beaten. After watching the spring thing (it wasn't a game) I'm not so sure that can be done.
There was obviously some issue with senior leadership, or lack there of. I have zero inside information so I can only go off what I find to read.
Brady Hoke continues to guard against veteran entitlement as Michigan won't take senior leadership trip | MLive.com
If you don't feel like going to the link, it's an article talking about entitlement in last years senior group.
Welcome back! (As I haven't seen you lately.)
Thanks for the information.
I have a couple of questions.
I don't know anything about UM"s o-line coach; what do you think about him? Especially with the o-line breakdowns last season?
Do you think things will settle down with Graham Glasgow's plea? I know he is suspended for Ap St, and will be available through the program for UND, but isn't his sentencing in the last part of July, and couldn't he get three months?
Do you think Nussmeyer has the antidote?
Do you think this years senior leadership was the problem last year? I don't quite get it.
