Going to scUM.

Looks like west coast schools have trouble keeping midwest kids, like we have trouble with Cali kids.

I'm worried about this year, but not that worried. Two 5* beasts in that backfield is scary, especially with Nussmeier's downfield running scheme. But they have no OL at all. It really should be worse than last year. And only one offensive weapon at WR (Funchess).

Damn, that sucks to miss out on Ty twice. I've always been a big believer in his potential as an offensive playmaker.

Since we never heard any more about USC missing that "deadline", I doubt we were seriously back in play this time around. Could be wrong though.

You are probably right. I got my hopes up for no reason, most likely.

ESPN confirms he is going to Michigan. Still no word on if he will have to sit out a year.

Michigan officially announces addition of running back Ty Isaac

ANN ARBOR -- Ty Isaac is, officially, part of the Michigan football program.

Michigan formally announced the addition of Isaac on its official web site Tuesday afternoon. The former USC running back announced his intentions to transfer to Michigan last week.

"We're excited that Ty has decided to join the Michigan Football family," Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a written statement. "I know it was important for him to get back to the Midwest to be closer to his mom and family, so I think it's a great fit for everyone.

"Ty's a big back with really good speed and catches the ball extremely well out of the backfield. He certainly adds depth and competition to a position we feel very confident about."

Isaac rushed for 236 yards on 40 carries last season at USC, playing as a backup running back and appearing in 14 games. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

He becomes Michigan's first transfer since former quarterback Steven Threet joined the program from Georgia Tech in 2007.

While Isaac is officially on board, Michigan did not offer any answer as to when he'll be eligible to play.

Isaac is currently seeking a medical hardship waiver to gain immediate eligibility from the NCAA and play next season. His mother is reportedly dealing with complications from a surgical procedure to repair hearing loss.

If Isaac is granted eligibility, he'll be a sophomore in 2014 with three years left to play. If he's not, he'll have to sit out this season, and will have three years left as a redshirt sophomore starting in 2015.

Isaac's quest to gain eligibility this season could be tough, however, as NCAA compliance experts told MLive last week that both the severity of Isaac's mother's condition and the fact that his family home in Shorewood, Ill. is roughly 250 miles away from Ann Arbor will likely make it difficult to gain the waiver from the NCAA.

"(The family member's medical condition) doesn't have to be life-threatening, necessarily, but it would have to be something that prevented her from working or getting around, if it's a surgery for hearing loss, I'm not sure if that'll qualify, but it might," NCAA compliance expert and Bylaw Blog author John Infante said. "His bigger problem, though, is that you're required to transfer within 100 miles of the family member. Being four hours away or 200 miles probably isn't going to cut it.

"There are considerations that can trump that, one thing they say is that if you're dealing with someone suffering from such a serious illness that they've been given a defined amount of time left to live, then all other considerations are off the table. But in this case, it doesn't sound like that's the case."

Michigan's good luck combined with our bad luck means he is guaranteed to be eligible next season.

I appreciate all the hate, but Michigan still needs an O-line for him to run behind. As bad as Michigan was running last year, it's hard for me to imagine it much better losing two tackles to the NFL.

That's one position they've actually recruited very well. This comment surprises me.

Who's the 2nd OT they lost?

If you look at the ratings recently compiled, the ones which listed ND has having the top average lineman recruits in the last three seasons, Michigan was in the top five. Which is pretty damned good.

I know family of a kid that plays on the line for Michigan. Without going into detail, the problems may not all be with the current recruits. Some past players may have been disruptive to continuity, and some past coaches may not have had things together. It will be interesting to see how things change with the new coordinator, if at all.

(Was it a Borges problem, or is it a Hoke problem, to oversimplify.)

wasn't there rumours last year that the likes of Kallis and about 7 other players were all going to mass transfer out??

Hopefully those recruits pan out, but as of yet I haven't seen it. Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped to land this kid, but until the Oline can run block there's not much point...unless any of these kids is Barry Sanders.

What's your feeling on Michigan this year? Seems like a pivotal one for Hoke and Co.

There was obviously some issue with senior leadership, or lack there of. I have zero inside information so I can only go off what I find to read.

Brady Hoke continues to guard against veteran entitlement as Michigan won't take senior leadership trip | MLive.com

If you don't feel like going to the link, it's an article talking about entitlement in last years senior group.

I think you're correct on it being an important year for Hoke. There's obviously talent on both sides of the ball, experience under center, a solid D Cord, and a favorable schedule. I think he needs to win MSU and ND, or beat osu (obviously all three would be great), and convincingly beat the teams that should be beaten. After watching the spring thing (it wasn't a game) I'm not so sure that can be done.

That's been more or less true for the last 3 seasons

Welcome back! (As I haven't seen you lately.)

Thanks for the information.

I have a couple of questions.

I don't know anything about UM"s o-line coach; what do you think about him? Especially with the o-line breakdowns last season?

Do you think things will settle down with Graham Glasgow's plea? I know he is suspended for Ap St, and will be available through the program for UND, but isn't his sentencing in the last part of July, and couldn't he get three months?

Do you think Nussmeyer has the antidote?

Do you think this years senior leadership was the problem last year? I don't quite get it.

Howdy! Yeah, I don't hang around Irish forums too much in the off season :)

We lost our original Oline coach under Hoke to Oklahoma a season ago, he was pretty solid. I'm hoping that Nuss will bring that level of coaching back, because the talent is there.

No clue man. Anything I would guess would just be that, a guess. I think once a sentence is laid out things will kick up for a bit, but then once practice starts back up and we have other things to pay attention to most will drop it.

Do you think Nussmeyer has the antidote?

I hope so, but it's really tough to tell. I mean, he came from a program that has epic shit tons of talent. Kinda like being a QB for USC back in the day, you've got NFL wideouts and line so why wouldn't you succeed in college. Toss 'em in the NFL and poof. I hear he is installing a more simplified run blocking scheme, so hopefully that will help our run game.

Do you think this years senior leadership was the problem last year? I don't quite get it.

I blame a lot on Borges. He would call amazing games like osu, then try to run it down MSUs throat, which uh could of gone better, you know. There was still a lot of spread talent that should of been used in a better way. But to blame seniors is kinda silly, it's the coaches job to build the seniors into leaders, the buck stops there.

Lower court must determine if Lasik procedures are covered under NCAA bylaws on transfer eligibility

He should have simply listened to his coach and Tom Thayer in the first place. *smh*
