I'm still in shock, even though I know I shouldn't be. I thought for sure we'd have to lose a few games first before having to deal with this shit. The thing that has me most puzzled is not the decommitment itself, but the fact that ND is no longer an option. That's about as "180" as it gets. Something isn't right here. Something that goes beyond Hopkins' asshattery.

Sorry but IMO that's ridiculous. The time and effort the staff put in on the aforementioned Cali recruits is not worth just one or even a couple elite guys.

Our starring middle LB and safety are from CA. Last year's starting TE who went in the 2nd draft who we proudly proclaim as next in line at "Tight End U" was from CA. GA III actually gave us some great moments (kickoff returns, 80 yd run vs OK, game-winner vs BYU, etc). Clausen from CA. Cierre Wood had an excellent junior season and gave us a lot of great moments and was a huge oart of our 12-1 season. Tons of great players throughout ND's history from CA, including a Heisman winner. You get role players who contribute to the teams' success as well, like Taylor Dever and Justin Utupo.

You can't just stop recruiting a talent-rich state like CA, even though there have been an enormous amount of flakes coming from those parts and I get why people are saying it. You lose out on some key players as well and hurt your team in the long run. Gotta keep plugging away there...

I'm not in favor not recruiting Cali.

Just sayin the argument is strong not too.

I get what you're saying, and it is very frustrating. I strongly believe that one of the reason Charlie Weis did not succeed at ND is because he limited his recruiting. Brian Kelly on the other hand understands that recruiting is a marathon and there is going to be a lot of setbacks in the process. It is about who can grind until the end and get to that finish line with the right kind of numbers. Look at how many offers have been going out under Bk, it is unheard of at ND.

This one is tougher to grasp because Blake seemed perfect for ND. In the end, it is what it is. The kid could have been from South Dakota and we would feel the same.

Then I guess I'm confused on what you meant by calling his opinion on recruiting CA 'ridiculous'. That's why people are quoting you and disagreeing.

Max Redfield ALONE is not worth the time and effort of recruiting Cali. That's is what I found ridiculous. Even a couple guys would not be worth it. As I said.

I'm aware we've gotten more than just a couple elite guys from Cali though, which is why I never said too stop recruiting it. But again, as I said, I can understand the argument too.

I only stated Max because he will be a starter this year. Obviously, I could have loop over all the great ND players from Cali. We would be here all night. That said, I am willing to wager most of my Vbucks(lol) that we will not regret recruiting him by the time he graduates no matter what the cost value you put on his recruitment.

1) I'll eat my crow right now...said Barnett would never leave us. He lied over and over again and can go suck a duck for all I care.

2) If I hear one more person talk about how ND is in good shape and that we shouldn't get upset about recruiting I might explode. Leave this site right now if you get upset about other people getting upset about recruiting. You are one of like 4 people on IE that react that way. Stop acting like this loss is not a big deal.

3) 247 can eat a bag of you know what and they can forget about making any money off of me for the rest of life.

4) Fuck California. There is nothing there that we can't get somewhere else. I'm done following any recruits from that state. Will never consider them a part of our team until they have taken snaps in their second year of eligibility.

A poster on ISD just mentioned that some poster from the Ducks 24/7 site posted that Hopkins supposedly was bragging to him about being Phil Kinght's bag man LMAO! I know it's likely not true, but funny as hell to think about.

I know it's a little bit over the top, but in a way he kind is the bagman. His demeanour is very unprofessional. Seriously, BOYCOTT 24/7! This is total horse shit.

I thought the Rangers played pretty well tonight man. They are good enough to win this. Shake it off and hold your head high. Tomorrow is another day.

Lol I'm long overdue for a ban. Drunk on a Wednesday and the high-horse optimists are in full force tonight.

Can't fault him really. Golson and Zaire are fighting for the starting spot and both have good eligibility left. Kizer is coming in and will have a leg up as far as playbook knowledge. Committing in the first place seems like a lost cause unless you're willing to sit the bench here for a few years at least. At Oregon he could end up as a starter in a year or two once Mariotta is out. Not to mention Oregon isn't all the way across the country.

As obnoxious as this whole episode has been, I can't help but agree with the starting time argument. Zaire and Kizer are going to have several years of experience on Blake before he would even sniff the field. Are his perceived natural skills really going to outweigh that real world experience? I doubt it. Zaire and Kizer are very good QBs. Given their own ability and (for Kizer soon-to-be) experience, they will be able to compete for playing time with any "top QB recruit" just entering the program. That's a recruitment hurdle for the current Irish program.

Am I suggesting they recruit a mediocre QB talent purposefully? No, but I could see another Kiel situation developing in the previous situation with Blake involved, and I wouldn't mind avoiding that. If we can get a decent talent that wants to be Irish onboard this year and aim for one of the high end 2016 QBs, I would be happy.

Seriously. The QB's just need to be better than Rees (bless his heart) and we win 10 or 11 games no problem. It's not like they need to be the second coming or anything.

It really doesn't make any logical sense, does it? You'd think at least his parents and coach would advise him to keep his options open. Obviously there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes, but you almost have to think there was some sort of issue that arose between Barnett and the coaching staff. Or, I suppose, his "dream school" Oregon talked him up then gave him an ultimatum and he's effectively a silent there.

Anyone that believes he's not going to Oregon raise you hand! Bueller? Bueller?

I really hope we aspire to have a QB who is significantly better than Tommy Rees. No offense to Tommy.

You know you're on a ND board when the word 'dang' or similar slang has been used 226 times before you register, lol.

I think this is a loss for the program, but it will not sink the program. As others have stated, the QB situation is bright. I was shocked myself when Blake committed in the first place. Usually top tier QBs want a more favorable depth chart. I had a gut feeling from the beginning this year that ND nabs a QB, but one that's more of a role QB (aka someone who pushes the starters but is basically a glorified career backup). I'm curious to see which direction the staff goes from here. Do they go after another top flight QB or maybe a second or third-level type who will need time to develop.

Tommy Rees was a glorified backup and he started what, 30 games for us? I'd like our "glorified backups" to have BCS (or whatever the "good bowls" are called now) talent.

I don't know the inside story on Barnett but it just seems like this is mostly due to the depth chart.

Oregon has two QB's announce that they are transferring during the month of May and suddenly the depth chart is relatively thin when Mariotta leaves.

I'm guessing he thought ND's depth chart was almost made for him thinking that he could redshirt one year and step in when Golson would leave. The talk that Zaire is giving Golson a run for the starting position, may have caught Barnett by surprise and may have made him think twice.

No info, just speculation.

It's not depth chart. It's the same depth chart it's been for months. ND didn't hardball him either. They tried hard to keep him. Called on for reinforcements even.

It's a shady business. Not the first time Oregon has been involved in some shady dealings.
