Hopkins put down a CD for Waller to ND today, lol.

He doesn't have a ND offer and ND isn't even listed as one of the schools he's interested in.

I guess it'd be a nice consolation prize, but there's no reason to think he's coming to ND.

He's just straight up trolling at this point.

With the uncertainty regarding quarterback Blake Barnett and his Notre Dame commitment, Servite (Calif.) 4-Star quarterback Travis Waller could be the biggest benefactor.
The nation's No. 79 overall player and No. 4 dual-threat quarterback remains uncommitted. Oregon and Ohio State offers might not be in the picture much longer depending on Barnett.
If the Irish lose Barnett to Oregon they will need to take immediate action. That action could lead them towards a pretty immediate offer to Waller. The four-star favors Northwestern among his offers, meaning he is open to the distance.
Alabama remains in the mix and Auburn is also showing new interest.
I have made my 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Notre Dame expecting the above happens

Mariota has to be the most overrated player in the nation. A lot of people have him as a top overall pick next year, its disgusting.

Oregon without Chip does not have a lot of sense. Dontre Wilson made the right decision. They were destroyed by Stanford, Arizona and they showed signs of being a weaker team than past years. His recruiting also is not as powerful as used to be three, four years ago.

I agree helfrich isn't the half the coach chip is. But don't disrespect Mariota. He is a bad man

His last update was so trollish on so many levels. He is incredibly "dialed in" to this recruitment and I think this one is just about done folks.

Notre Dame accepted the commitment of quarterback Blake Barnett in late November, with the California quarterback defying the snowy South Bend weather by pledging his allegiance to the Irish. But as Barnett’s star has risen throughout the process, it looks like the competition for his signature has grown as well.

News broke Tuesday that Barnett took an unofficial visit to Oregon, to see a Ducks football program that had been one of Barnett’s childhood favorites. Oregon-based 247Sports’ recruiting writer Justin Hopkins was the man to break the story, catching up with Barnett and sounding alarm bells across ND Nation with a report that had Barnett close to flipping his commitment to Oregon.

The guys at Rivals had a bit of a different take, with recruiting analyst Adam Gorney catching Barnett as he returned to California. Gorney reported that Barnett hasn’t de-committed, though he did say that the switch was possible (as it is for every recruit that hasn’t signed on the dotted line. (And in the case of Eddie Vanderdoes, after he’s signed on the dotted line.)) But while the initial report made it feel like the switch was a foregone conclusion, Irish fans could put the paper bag down and take a few steadying deep breaths.

“I just wanted to give myself an opportunity to check out another school that I’ve been interested in for a while now and make sure I made the right decision with Notre Dame and just in fairness to the recruiting process explore my options and check it out,” Barnett told Rivals.

What’s real? What’s not? Is Barnett gone? At this point who knows.

While Hopkins has taken heat online for his reporting, there’s no doubt that he’s got close ties into the Oregon program. (There’s also no doubt that a guy writing for DuckTerritory.com will have a certain spin that’s different than those covering this recruitment from the ND side.)

But if the Irish are close to losing out on Barnett, they’ll have to start over recruiting a position that looked filled perfectly with Barnett. Losing out on an elite runner and passer would hurt, though it’s not as if the Irish aren’t properly set up for the near future with Everett Golson, Malik Zaire and DeShone Kizer.

Position coach Matt LaFleur, Irish offensive coordinator and Southern California recruiting ace Mike Denbrock and Brian Kelly all will likely work hard to keep Barnett in the fold, as the quarterback was recruiting for the Irish as recently as last weekend, according to prospects that worked out at the Ohio NFTC camp.

One datapoint that’ll be worth watching is Barnett’s next return to South Bend. He’s expected to be at the Irish Invasion camp later this month, a critical visit for the Irish coaching staff to reestablish some momentum in Barnett’s recruitment and remind him why he made the decision to pick Notre Dame in the first place. If he doesn’t show up? It’s likely time to start casting a few lines into the water.

Oregon getting a visit from Barnett now might be the best thing to happen to the Irish in the long run. If it’s enough to flip his commitment for good, Notre Dame will have a chance to remedy that by finding another quarterback in this class and get them to campus this summer. The Irish staff landed Everett Golson late in the cycle after he had been committed to Butch Davis and North Carolina. They landed Gunner Kiel hours before reporting early.

Finding another quarterback to join the 2014 recruiting class won’t be difficult, especially if the Irish score points like many expect them to do. And while Oregon has quarterback Marcus Mariota, a quarterback some expect to be among the top picks in the 2015 NFL draft, Mark Helfrich is in just his second year of life after Chip Kelly, so expect the trajectory of each program to play a role in the decision as well.

But Barnett’s visit certainly shook up the recruiting world for Notre Dame, adding another bit of intrigue to a process that still has eight months until Signing Day.

I'm just saying that a QB, in general, would not hesitate to decommit if the situation wasn't right for him. Say Mariota comes out in December and says he is staying again (I believe he has another year or two of eligibility). Barnett might not want to be in that situation considering Oregon is pitching he starts day one. May cause him to rethink the decision.

Often, starting a true freshman is a disastrous formula to follow. Remember Jimmy Clausen's freshman year, and that first game against Georgia Tech? Demetrious Jones stumbles badly(two fumbles), and is replaced by Evan Sharpley. As the beat down continues, Weis sends in Jimmy Clausen. Irish start the season 0 - 5, and end 3 - 9.

Keith has a certain duty to make his readers feel warm and fuzzy.

(I'm not being critical. Keith Arnold is the man. And he has a good way of putting things plainly that don't always have the "sky is falling" connotations that this fan base is accustomed to.)

I can't check cause I'm on the grind, but I wonder if his twitter has had any activity.

If he took down 'University of Notre Dame commit', I think that's the fat lady singing.

Clausen was sacked a team record 34 times his Freshman season. While you can say some of those sacks were because he was a Freshman and missed reads, the truth is most of those sacks were because we had absolutely no OL primarily due to Willingham's brilliant recruiting.

Trying to correlate a bad record due to Clausen being a Freshmen is about as accurate as saying we seemed to loose games because we were playing on Saturday's instead of Friday's

As embarrassed as I am to say, I checked it a bit ago out of curiosity. He tweeted an enthusiastic "lets eat!" this morning, but otherwise nothing. Still has "ND commit" in his bio.

Still says Notre Dame Commit. Last activity was him tweeting Travis Waller actually.

Don't be embarassed. There's nothing wrong with looking at someone's twitter.

Embarrassed because I looked at a high schooler's twitter for a sense of security haha.

Less embarrassed and more "recruiting followers shame."

This!!! Everyone keeps talking about QB's to the league from ND or Oregon. I think an important reminder would be the O-Line Haul the last few years, the current incoming class, and next years committed class. A quarterback is only as good as the line in front of him. ND's haul has been top 3 last 3 years. Thats what I am hitting home with Blake, along with the TE, and possible WR talent.
