Yeah, Portland was awesome. Really unique city with a lot of character. We did all the touristy stuff like Voodoo Donuts and then just got really, really drunk haha

Actually I just remembered I was in Eugene one more time in 2001 or so. Played a crappy show at some club in front of like 10 people. Then went to Portland and played Bill Ray's Dive. It was packed and the show was awesome.

Point being...screw the ducks and Eugene!

Justin Hopkins tweeting a picture of "beautiful" Eugene, OR. Totally not a fan of the Ducks.

I find it really interesting that no one from 247 has come to Hopkins' defense from the full attack he's getting in that thread. Hell, Loy even dropped in later on and completely avoids the elephant in the room. I guarantee they all think this situation is borderline shady. You probably can't pin this on Hopkins but it's clear that he's so close to crossing the line that his co-workers aren't touching the situation.

Mods thanks for changing title of thread to Soft Verbal otherwise I might have been slightly upset when I clicked on this thread and read all this.

UGH! A kick in the balls.

But, this is when I feel confident that Kelly and this coaching staff will not let one recruit's decision destroy the Notre Dame football program. I do not think Kelly and his staff are totally surprised by this or anything that happens in recruiting.

What if Kelly has already told another quarterback that he is an outstanding player, but Notre Dame is only going to recruit one quarterback for 2015, that Notre Dame would love to have him come but Barnett has committed and that if Barnett does not come to Notre Dame - for whatever reason - for example, Barnett decides to give up football and become a Buddhist monk - that he has an offer that he can commit to immediately? I tend to think a guy as smart as Kelly has a contingency plan.

If Barnett ends up a Duck whats the Plan B? Could another QB flip who is currently committed elsewhere?

What's really shitty is, if Blake's gone, we need to scrammble to get a QB on campus for II. First, because it'd be the best summer visit possible for the kid, and second, we don't even have someone to throw at II.

I wouldn't expect it takes him long to know if he's still coming to II or not.

Hopefully we know today.

I am sure there will be some 'camp arms' in attendance to run the drills so I wouldnt worry about it.
From having a "marquee" QB recruit in attendance perspective though I agree it would be nice to have a kid there alright

If he decommits I really hope he gives it time and doesn't go straight to Oregon.

Seeing our offense at full capacity this year with experience and mobility at QB for the first time ever in the Kelly era, it's going to be a lot more like Oregon's than he knows.

He'd be giving up so much to gain literally nothing as far as 'fit' goes.

"I'm still committed to Notre Dame," he said. " But I'm treating this like a business decision. I wanted to visit Oregon to be sure of my decision. I appreciate Notre Dame and the coaches and their support, but this was something I need to do to be sure."
However I'm also considering Oregon. I really liked the trip and they also have a lot to offer."

What's next for the four-star quarterback from Corona (Calif.) Santiago?

"I don't know right now. I just need to get home and talk with my family. I don't think I'm taking any other visits."

If that last sentence means he's not coming to II, he gone IMO

Until .....

None of them are going to say anything because they are trying the same shit.

Can someone give me a low down on this Hopkins guy? What did he do wrong?

I honestly can't say I'm surprised.

All they pretty much had to do was convince a 17 year old kid that he could be the next Mariota- similar size, skillset, and become a future 1st round pick in their offense. The whole degree thing is BS if you ask me.

If he decommits and flips to Oregon, then so be it. Yeah he's amazing talent, but it won't break ND.

Probably because they are all too busy laughing at our fans.

I really can't believe that some of you who follow recruiting closely would be so gullible as to believe Hopkins is doing something shady or illegal.

Like Justin Brent, and many of the athletes notre Dame has been recruiting, Kizer has just recently devoted himself to being a football player. I think that Oregon, pointed this out to Barnett, that Notre Dame had already recruited a quarterback ahead of him with a similar skill set.

I think it more likely that Oregon's sales pitch went something like this:

"If you go to ND, you will be spending a TON of your time doing homework for classes that are not going to mean a thing to you, once you get out. What does an NFL QB need to know about Post-WWII literature in Russia, anyway? Come to Oregon, where our professors have a better understanding of how much time it takes to prepare for an NFL career, and their grading policies support that. And............. we have hotter cheerleaders and great pot!"

Things happen like this all too often. Kid seems to be a good kid overall. Hopefully he sticks with ND but if he doesn't, then I wish him well. Seems to have incredible talent and hopefully he is successful wherever he ends up.

Here is my shameful plug for the early signing period.
