It really won't be much different then any other sporting event. At the same time i see the level of concern.

FWIW WVU claims that having beer in the stadium has reduced excess drinking. It makes some sense that I wouldn't drink as much before if I know I could still get a beer during the game.

Football Beer Taps Add Safety, $700,000 to West Virginia University Sports - Bloomberg

By tapping kegs at Mountaineer Field, West Virginia has added $700,000 to the athletic department and reduced the number of incidents in which police were called because of excessive drinking by around 30 percent, Athletic Director Oliver Luck said in an interview.

. . . .

The decision was accompanied by limits on coolers and other objects fans could bring into games, new policing methods inside the stadium, a new incident-tracking system and the elimination of the school’s “pass-out” policy that allowed fans to leave at halftime and later return to the game, Morgantown Police Department Chief Ed Preston said yesterday in a telephone interview.

He said eliminating pass-outs was “one of the best safety features that could have been added to these games.”

“It reduces the potential for binge drinking,” Preston said. “From a security and safety standpoint, it also reduces the potential of any contraband or weapons being brought into the games.”

IMO beer during the game pacifies the crowd and helps negate home field advantages. A lot of fans become more interested in getting another beer and taking a piss than watching the game.

I don't really understand the concern. There's already a ton of beer sold in other stadiums around the country. Is it that it's college or that it's the SEC?

If I remember correctly, WVU cuts off alcohol purchases early in the 3rd quarter. They also do not allow you to leave and return to the stadium.

Basically if you want to get hammered drunk you better do it before the game starts. Chances are you'll lose most of your buzz by the end of the game, lowering the chances of retard drunks ruining game day experiences for people when the game is over.

If they charge the prison rape prices for beer that most stadiums do, having people get stupid drunk won't be a problem. They'll all run out of money first.

It's not like there's no alcohol in SEC stadiums anyway. It's always been a tradition at SEC games to sneak a bottle or flask of bourbon into the stadium to mix with your Coke.

I'm not sure changing the booze policy would alter that tradition very much-- plenty of people still bring in flasks at pro games and other venues where alcohol is sold. They don't like paying the high prices, prefer a specific spirit, or simply like carrying on the tradition of bringing flasks into games.

My personal record is 4 flasks into an Arkansas-Tennessee night game several years back. I'm sure it was much needed too with a 7:45pm local kickoff time-- that's what, a solid 9-10 hours of pre-game drinking? No clue why I even had 4 flasks to begin with on that trip.

Funny cuz it's true... Damn Angels games are nutty... 12 bucks for 12 ounces of Bud...

"12 bucks!?! wtf?... I'm good... I'll take a bottled water please."

"That'll be 6.50 please."

I'm humbled to merely be in your presence, sir! Part of the fun of it back in my day was devising new ways to sneak flasks & bottles in. Lots of those sweet, innocent looking sorority girls had a couple of flasks strapped to their thighs under their wool skirt. Drinking bourbon brought in that way was nectar from the thighs of virgins... or so they claimed. :)

I took my dad and uncle to a Purdue game that was pouring rain the whole time. They snuck so much booze in and got so drunk, my dad pissed all over the back of a poncho this guy in front of us was wearing at halftime to avoid waiting in line. Real banner day for the Steelhead clan I must say.

This, my friend, is a glorious story!
