We seem to have a good group of smart guys here, what do you all do professionally? How long have you worked there and what are your longer term aspirations?

I have always found learning about different career paths to be fascinating. I suggest everyone read Gig if they are also interested in this type of stuff.

Technical consultant in the healthcare field. I've been doing this type of work for going on 6 years. I studied biochemistry in undergrad.

This field will not continue in it's current stage forever. Every market reaches saturation and this one is due within the next 10 years.

I'm currently studying computer science in my spare time: C++, Python, Linear Algebra, Web standards and hoping to time the exit from my current field with the achievement of a critical mass of knowledge to be an effective employee. I'd really like some type of collaborative interactive computer work: web sites, video games, new media, interactive storytelling, etc.

Automotive engineer manager for 20 years. Will likely stay in automotive and retire in 15 more years. Love what I do even though it can be long hours at times. Favorite part of the job in new car development. Design and pilot stage is the best.

Instantly thought of the (I think his name is also Rick?) guy the 'Pawn Stars' have check out all of their classic/expensive automobiles to get a value on them. TT, I have no doubt you're as BA as that guy!

By the way, I work in Corporate Development which is the department that concentrates on mergers and acquisitions for most F500 / S&P500 companies. I've been here one year and previously worked a year and a half in investment banking down in Charlotte (which was the worst time of my life).

Most junior jobs in finance are a few years and then you're off to the next opportunity, so I can imagine myself going to b-school in the next 3-4 years. Entrepreneurship is the end-game goal though....

I am a key accounts coordinator for a restaurant equipment manufacturers rep group. We represent about 30 different manufacturers in the Southern California and Las Vegas areas. I work mostly with the chain accounts, large school districts, and large corporate customers.

I have been with the company for 8 years. Not really where I thought I would be. Most of my professional background has been in the embroidery and screen printing field. Just kind of fell in to where I am now.

The wife and I are hoping to retire in the next two to three years and just enjoy our time together without this whole work thing getting in the way.

I'm a business analyst for a fortune-20 company. Sounds fancy, but what it means is I work between the IT team and the people who run the business and make sure they get what they need from IT.

I've flirted with some entreprenurial ideas, but never had the balls/capital to go for them.

Chief MRI Technologist for a MRI clinic. I have been doing MRI for 22 years now. Due to the poor healthcare system I am not for sure what I will be doing in the future. I do love my job though!

Spent ten years working as a manufacturer's sales rep in a very specialized industry in material handling. Absolutely loved traveling the country and seeing different cities/states and meeting people around the country. Absolutely hated traveling the country and being away from my family - that was a strain. 2 years ago I moved my family and went to work for the company that was my largest customer managing one of their facilities. We sell and service industrial(forklift) batteries/chargers.

My long term goal is to put your company out of business!

But not until after the ND/Michigan game :).
