Wiltfong hearing that he reached out to ND. Not much more than that at this point but if true that would be some good news for a recruitment that seems SEC bound. Loy trying to find more

I know the staff has a pretty good recruiting purpose, but it really baffles me to hear of guys like this that need to "reach out" to the staff...would think they'd be all over a talent like this early to at least gauge his level of interest.

maybe they did idk

I assume we offered after he reached out? Maybe he just wanted an offer from ND to add to his list?

Maybe they knew about him but his grades weren't quite where they need to be and now they are, so the offer?

Just playing devil's advocate.

He had an offer already.

I get what your saying but I don't think that's the case as often as fans may think. More often than not the staff reaches out numerous times with no contact back. When that happens it's up to the kid to get back in touch with them. Remember DT Garnett last cycle, everybody was wondering why he didn't get offered when some other DT's were, well because he didn't pick up the phone or call ND back. That's on him not us. Wiltfong posted yesterday that Cowart is at the top of the board but again there has to be mutual interest.

So Loy was told that Byron spent Thursday hunting down Tony Alford's number so he could get in touch with him and set up a summer visit.

I would think that's a decent sign.

Flip side of it is - Is is a good sign one of the best players in the country has to spend a significant amount of time trying to hunt down the phone number of our FL Recruiter / Recruiting Coordinator? lol

You could look at it like that, but he went out of his way to find Alford's number. That shows interest.

Obviously talented but #1 DE? Looking at his tape looks like a big stretch.

I'm surprised Mirko Jurkovic's performance against Cowart in the linemen drills at the Orlando NIKE camp has not received any attention. Mirko(first to take on Cowart) looked good in his first two reps, but Cowart knocked him down and split open his head on the third. Mirko's day was over, but Cowart continued to take on all challengers(including Martez Ivey) on his way to an invite to the Opening. The plane trip to Oregon will be a first. Not accustomed to being a frequent flyer, the three SEC schools within driving distance, Florida, Florida State, and Alabama, have received numerous visits. Because of his relationship with new Florida hire, Coach Brad Lawing(Clowny's coach at South Carolina), Florida leads. Watched the Alabama/Notre Dame game with intense interest, to see if he would fit in their defensive schemes. He's a Quiet Man with a lot of confidence.

BVG told him that "everybody has a mission but whats the method of the mission." He liked that saying a lot, called it catchy. BVG also talked NFL, it seems he's going to be using that to his benefit.

Yea, he showed really well at that camp. Rivals had a lot of great things to say about him and CeCe Jefferson.
