I was talking to a defensive player last week who said he and the other players loved the new D-coordinator and his system. He said there was a somewhat significant group of players who didn't really like Diaco that much.

And.....

I'll help out until he gets a chance to expand (if he can). This was spoken about at one of the ISD lunches in January, from 2 people with contacts deep inside the program. A lot of the players did not like Diaco. This shocked me because I thought the players loved him. Not so, according to 2 people I trust. The feeling was he was selfish and only looking out for his next job.

And then 2 weeks ago I talked to another guy who knows several players, and he said the same thing. His exact words: "Diaco was friggin' psycho. Like straight up psycho." Said the same thing about a lot of the players nit liking him. and believe me, this guy would know. He also told me that the players love BVG so far, as Burning River eluded to.

And Sean Mele at ISD played for BVG and he's told some phenomenal stories about BVG; he predicted when BVG was hired that the players would love him.

Thanks, NDinLa, great stuff as always. A little surprising that the guys weren't all big fans of Diaco, but now I'm kinda curious why he was considered psycho. Maybe that's why we didn't see many halftime/post game speeches from Bob in the ND behind the scenes highlights.

Has it been determined if BVG will coach from the field or in the box? If it's the field, you guys will be in for a treat. He is extremely animated and displays some serious energy.

He has in the past. Just didn't know if that would change now that he is at ND. Don't know if BK has a preference. I am sure BVG would want to stay down on the field.

If it has a positive effect on the players, then I hope BK let's him make that call. I have a feeling BK will be more hands off with VanGorder because he respects his experience. Diaco was still learning and every once in a while, it seemed like Kelly would reel him in. VanGorder has worked on all sides and at all stages of the game. He knows how to handle himself and I'd be psyched if he added some energy and grittiness to this defense.

Translation: create turnovers and stop the run and his antics will be laughed at and enjoyed.

He freaks on a defensive stop on third and one just as often as he freaks on a blown coverage. But yeah... gonna be fun watching if he continues it. Hopefully there will be more stops than blown coverages.

I'm hoping for an on-the-field Van Gorder. The best DC in college football, Coach Foster at VT, is VERY on-the-field, and very instant-coaching with his players --- including lots of visible congratulating if not wild positive emotionalism when big plays occur. I must believe that this makes the guys want to play even harder for him.

The sideline could be a roller coaster of emotion. Defense does well, BVG goes crazy. Offense screws up, BK goes crazy. Either way, TV viewers will be entertained.

I think we need to name our defensive scheme the Alien Defense.
