We're going to get our chance. I think we'll be putting our best foot forward.

This better all be hoo-ha. Otherwise, it becomes a strange world for me. I mean… this kid acknowledges that we are TE U, has family ties, his freaking mother cried when he got the offer, etc… and then he picks someone else?

It's almost an indictment on him if he doesn't pick ND. If I was in his scenario, I couldn't imagine a better situation to honor to my own hard work, the hard work of my family and put myself in the best situation for my future. If he looks at all of that… then falls for Urbie's BS… then how is that more of an indictment on him than our program.

His family ties to the school shouldn't make him feel obligated to go there as well. Chris will make the decision of his choice and choose the school he feels is the best for him, whether it's OSU, Georgia or ND.. (also etc.)

I'm not saying they should. I'm saying that he has entire package that clearly screams ND. Not only is it the reasonable first choice for his admitted selling points, but it's obviously quite important to his family.

Maybe you guys are different. But if I don't have a better academic offer (he doesn't), a better recent success at his position (no one does), a school with more family ties (we are this school) then I certainly wouldn't be picking Ohio fucking State over the University whose offer made my mother cry in joy…. Just sayin'…. he picks OSU, it says more about him than it does about Notre Dame.

Missed the point. Wooly never said anything close to "obligated". His point is that this is the kind of recruiting race ND should win every time as it has all the built in advantages we look for, as opposed to many other races we get in where we're trying to overcome obstacles.

I agree with this. I'd definitely take back what I said yesterday about feeling better about him than anybody on the board, but it still stands to reason that there's almost no way someone in his shoes with his background should end up picking anywhere but ND... unless...

Basically, the way I see us losing this race would be if at his Ohio State visit Urban turns up the pressure and he complies. We've seen this happen many times. A great example is Ezekiel Elliot, who we told to take his time on his visit to ND... and then he goes to Ohio State and Urban gives him the hard sell true salesman style. Urban's hard sell is probably the best in the business. Lots of kids take the bait, but there others that it really turns off (Thomas Holley, etc.)

My single fear here is that the pressure wins out. The way he takes so many interviews, and has so many nice things to say about so many different schools seems to indicate that he's not the kind of kid who has an easy time saying "no" or being rude to people.

If he makes it to the ND visit, I'd still bet on us.

until he visits the next school. a kid like this, not surprised if it takes a Kelly visit the last week to seal the deal. maybe he'll come to his senses during his visit and see the careers ND TE's have.

If there is one position I am not worried about it is Tight end. We brought in two two years in a row and if we have to we can either go without or move a Myles Boykin out there. Plus we have a lot of tight end prospects anyways.

He's just social media whoring. So not really any use in reading into it. Honestly though, this type of social media persona usually ends really poorly for ND.

Couldn't agree more. I hope I am wrong, but the type of person that likes the drama and attention usually isn't a good fit at ND. Lots of recent examples seem to bear that out. Shades of Greenberry with that comment.

Did ND fans really tweet him asking about Farrell tweet and how we are fading and asking him to visit? Because I saw his hash tag "calm down". I hate our fans that do this stupid shit. Quit acting like you are making a difference.

Every fan base has these idiots. It's not exclusive to ND.

Yeah, there's no sense in getting worked up about it. Every time there's a recruit a fan base feels confident about that shows interest everywhere, there will be fans that tweet him good and bad stuff, no matter what school it is. Getting upset about it is futile.

Here is my question, Lax : Does family connections trump hard sell?

Perhaps he's honored to receive an offer from his Uncle's alma matter, and nothing more than that?

I mean, if I had no interest in a school, and my family member passed away and I received an offer from them, even if I had no interest at all, out of respect I'd say I was overwhelmed by the offer and very honored.

Anyway, all this speculation about who's leading is silly at this point. Whether we're leading or outside of his top 5, he hasn't visited yet and that can change everything.

It's like going to a car dealership with a top 5 in mind, without having test drove the cars yet. You see some pics online and you think you know your favorite, but you have to actually sit inside, drive the car, and hear the pitch as to why it's the best car for you.

Or choosing a job based on 'the company' without actually meeting with the personel. When I came out of college, I was convinced I was going to accept a position with company 1 if offered. It was an absolute no brainer. They recruited my school hard, knew friends that worked there from classes ahead of me, and were fortune top 20 at the time. I went through the interview with company 1, then interviewed with 2 other places just to be safe; the 2 other places were back up plans in case company 1 didn't offer. Like I said, company 1 was always my 'leader'. But the next two interviews blew me away with 'fit' and what they could offer, and after all 3 interviews, company 1 was the only place I ruled out. And this is coming from a college grad who has a pretty good understanding of the businesses and what not... I can't imagine how confusing it is for a high schooler.

I guess my point is, unless there's legit love for one school, I don't see the point in a top 5 pre-visit and IDC if we're outside of his top 5 as long as he's here on March 29th and gets to test drive.

If you get to a point where you're so far out that you're on the bubble of the top 5 and you might not get a visit, that's when there's reason to worry. But he's visiting, so personally, IDC what his top 5 or anything else is at this point. It's all about the V!
