Folks, let me get this straight with you once and for all..

I don't begrudge Kelly for going out and making a better man of himself....Making more money in a high profile job should be an aspiration for all of us I guess. Maybe not all, but I'm guessing most of us.

It's been my contention all along and continues to be how he's handled this whole ordeal and leaves his incoming recruiting class out to dry. That is all.....It has nothing to do with the job he has done to date nor do I dislike the man. I think he's a great coach. That said, and this is my opinion only, I think his priorities are way out of whack here based on timing and approach. I hope to God that this has everything to do with he and his assistants getting their just due, but with each and every passing second, minute, hour and day....it's starting to look like it has nothing to do with that. Kelly's playing his game and Jack is playing his....End of story. If that means that they part ways and end their relationship and go their own ways, I'm fine with that. Some of you keep telling me how smart you are with business and negotiating.....Well, in my opinion, Notre Dame is only going to eat so much crap before they tell this guy to take a walk. Every negotiation has a tipping point....right, Lax? Now we'll see how serious everyone is and who's got the biggest pair.

Is this what it's come to in society? Making a better man or woman of one's self is now based on the attainment of money and a high profile job?

There should be a thread for those of you who are denouncing your respect for BK and no post should be deleted so we can all reflect on it in a week from now.

Why would a week change anything? I think he had the majority of fans behind him, naively believing he wouldn't do to ND what he did to Cinncinnati. Now that it's clear Kelly is a mercenary out for himself (oh, I know...it's tough to feed your family on $3MM a year now days) I think that naivete has been lost.

If he comes back there are certainly a group of people who will continue to embrace him or embrace him more (the type who would step over anyone for more money; wave a flag while outsourcing jobs) and a lot more who will come back to the realization that they should be fans of the University and it's football team and not of the coach.

The only Lou Holtz I see out there in the CFB world right now is Chris Petersen.

Well thanks. Do trolls and ogres have anything in common, I mean besides foot fetishes?

This is one of the most brilliant posts I have ever seen in a punny, warped, sort of way! Are you just into athlete's feet? Or are you an athletic supporter in general? We could start a club. Ogres, club, get it?

"I think the NFL right now tends to borrow more from college than the other way around," Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said. "But I think it's more about leadership. Some of these coaches in college are outstanding leaders. And they just go from a younger roster to a slightly older roster — still the average age is, what 26, 27, 25 in the NFL? They are dealing with 19, 20 year-olds. It's not that big of a difference. "There's no question, and I'm not the only one who thinks that college coaches are well-trained and have experienced tremendous pressure, and can handle it. And they're smart."

I don't get this at all. Is he not entitled to try to get what he feels he deserves for his services? I can't get worked up about all of this because I don't think there is any chance he goes anywhere. I don't think the Eagles would ever hire him, and I don't think he would leave Notre Dame to coach the Eagles. He's just trying to get some leverage to whatever extent he can, as anybody in any line of work and anyone in any negotiation would do. I don't like how his agent went through the press, but my sense is that has backfired on them and done more damage to their position than it has to my feelings.

This has been going on for two days, and people act like its the longest most horrible contract negotiation ever. Also, peoples' apparent belief that they are somehow entitled to information is astounding, as if they don't understand that sharing information publicly would damage the negotiation.

Because of the lack of info, people are just projecting their own attitudes and insecurities onto the situation, and in turn its driving people nuts. I don't think that is Kelly's problem. Kelly has to worry about Kelly, not eggshell psyched football fans.

This is not about what Brian Kelly is entitled too. Yes he has been underpaid. And good for him if he is working for changing certain things in the program.

This is about how he holds the program, how his actions make the program look and a myriad of other things, all about respecting others. This is supposed to be a fukkin' team, not an extention of the Brian Kelly show!

And he has done this before! AND WHEN FACED WITH CRITICISM, HE SAID HE LEARNED FROM IT!

On a lighter note, all this talk of Ball tag and I thought we could borrow something (not a coach) from UCAL Davis:

Ball Tag

Info Search:

Ball Tag is a fun game to play with your friends late at night.

All you need are a few Nerf balls. Or any kind of balls for that matter, but nerf balls don't hurt so much when they hit you. (Col Mustard in the hall with the Nerf Ball!)

The rules are simple:

• Define a playing area. Everyone stays in the playing area.

• Hand out the balls to a few people. Make sure you have more people than you have balls. (Again, how is this possible)

• If you have a ball, try to throw it at someone who doesn't have a ball. If you hit them, they have to take that ball as their own. (Sometimes the age old methods are still best!)

• If you don't have a ball, try not to get hit by one. (Goes without saying!)

• Play for as long as you like. ( Promises, promises!)

Variations:

• Have only one person without a ball. (Imagine the chaos!) (Imagine the pain!)

• Allow people with balls to get hit. (So someone could have more than one ball at a time.) (Again, this is my premise!)

The best place to play this game in Davis is at the Death Star.

Doing my best Nate Silver impression and aggregating all of the info out there it sounds like ND is not giving him everything he is looking for or a deal would already be done. It could be that they never intend to either. It's also important to remember that th Eagles who have interviews scheduled into next week seem to have clearly not offered him the job yet so currently it doesn't seem like he even has the option to leave.

The most troublesome thought is ND playing hardball and being willing to let Kelly walk away to simply go with Martin at a discounted price. IMO this would be a horrendously poor decision.

I don't know if it is true or not but i read that the school already lowered standards for football players when Kelly took the job. (Like i said don't know if thats true Maybe Ironman8, NDinLA or BGIF could anser that. ) Like i posted earlier i have read and some buddies of mine have read some where that Kelly has asked the standards be lowered again. Maybe the university isn't willing to lower them again to keep the head coach. I like Kelly and want him to stay but i think he has put himself above the team and his agent has made a mountian out of a ant hill.

This has been handled pathetically by BK. Is it his right to interview for other jobs? Of course it is. If he so decides to leave, thats his right. HOWEVER, the silence is nothing short of deafening. It has already cost us one recruit. If he is doing this for leverage, he is doing it very poorly. He was going to get a raise/extension already. He just went 12-0. You think Swarbrick was going to play hardball on money for assistants? Hell no. He couldve gotten anything he wanted. It was already in the works. No, this is not a negotiating ploy. He is seriously interested, and the Eagles are interested in him. Whoever said Philly media and ESPN have moved on simply is choosing not to watch. I just saw a story on sportscenter last night, and read a philly article this morning naming BK and Gus Bradley the leading candidates.

The silence tells me he is gone. But that is just my opinion and gut feeling. He has a right to do this, but he is doing it poorly.

I hate to say it, but the other Kelly handled it much better. He never denied interest. He said he would listen. He did, and he returned to Oregon. But there was no long period of silence, no mystery behind it.

Bottom line is you dont say "leaving is not an option" then fall off the face of the earth when reports say you interview for a NFL job.

Handled very poorly.

Good mornin' beaches. I trust everyone got a good nights rest so we can get another 1,000+ posts added to this thread today?

Rerefencing an earlier post (NDLAX or NDinLA?) about BK not getting everything he wants as why nothing has been wrapped up.

I would assume everyone isn't sitting in a room together and/or on campus. If the BoT has to approve it might be a simple matter of logistics getting everyone to agree. One or two may agree, but another raises a question that needs to be addressed. Then they have to reconvene and maybe another question is raised due to the response.

Can he hire whoever he wants or does the school have a say in that?

Coaches get to pick their staff. That's typical anywhere. They do have to be approved, but as long as nothing glaring pops up in a background check it's more of a formality.

Small Man Syndrome:

1) Where a person of short stature believes they have the ability to take on any person at any task. It is a general cockiness that is in a short person to replace the lack of height. Beware of anyone with short man syndrome.

2) The obnoxious, chauvinistic, arrogant attitude often taken on by short men -- seems to be an attempt to make up for their short stature.

I would be shocked If Brian Kelly leaves. I really dont see the eagles taking a head coach with no NFL experience. Look what the fans and media as well as the players did to Andy Reid, and he won there

If BK were to leave I can't see JS hiring someone that doesn't have HC experience. He did a good job finding BK and I trust him to find another capable HC.

I'm exhausted.

i have no choice but to think that no matter who was AD that year they would have went after BK...dude came off an undefeated season with a BCS birth.

remember the last time we hired someone with no head coaching experience????

This man should not dictate what ND is......ND dictates who he his and he adapts. I thought that was one of the things that made ND special...you don't change it, it changes you.

Maybe that's Brian Kelly's fear?

There are lots of faculty and administration at ND who could care less if ND is any good at football. They want ND to be an Ivy League school and believe football tarnishes their image.

The Notre Dame coach interviewed with the Eagles on Tuesday and has a second meeting with the team set for this weekend, according to a published report. Meanwhile, Kelly continued to confer with NFL people about what it's like to coach at that level, a league source said early Saturday.

Wonder who called that Eons ago. Smoke & Fire. As of now he is still under contract as the Head Football Coach at ND. He has a duty to maintain the current class of recruits coming and all signs point to business as usual.
If he cannot maintain, then kick his *** to the curb.

I fully expect him to come back to ND, however, I chuckle with knowing glee that a good portion of you thought this was just all a ploy. As HCTI stated, as the days tick by it appears its anything but.

Here is the thing...we honestly don't know anything more than we did Wednesday night when the story broke...correct? Everything said since then has been speculation or word from "sources". So really all we have is frustration at being in the dark at a critical period of the recruiting cycle. It may have been a factor in AA's flip but even that is not confirmed. After all Gunner didn't need a coach blip for his last second switch.

I have gotten as frustrated and ticked as many of you but thought about what we really know and discovered the answer is basically nil.

So all we can do is blownoff steam and work ourselves up until there is a resolution. Honestly though the quicker the resolution the better as morenand more people will have worse and worse feelings which will be harder and harder to overcome once everything is resolved.

We've gotten plenty of information, you just have to read between the lines a little bit.

At this point, it's crystal clear that Kelly is prepared to accept an offer to be a head coach with an NFL team. This is way beyond aggressive negotiation tactics. Who knows whether he gets that offer or not, but as time goes on, I think there's a point/line of no return and that line is getting close.

The only source we have saying anything to the contrary are biased sources (ex players, current players, fans, etc.) close to the team.
