I was seriously just waiting for you to make this because I knew you'd beat me if I tried.

I wonder if he's of Nigerian descent?

His family name is Nigerian. Hopefully the stereotype of Nigerians valuing education above all holds true with the Mbanasor family. Same HS as RB Samaje Perine, '14 OU signee.

I only briefly watched his highlights, but my initial reaction is this kid's ranking will improve as the cycle continues. He looks like a more physical Nick Watkins.

Do we have a legitimate shot since he's already a verbal to TCU or is this one where he gave a verbal because he got an offer?

Pretty sure Pfluegerville is the stadium that was used for Friday Night Lights.... the TV version.

I'm guessing the latter. He got an offer from TCU on junior day and committed that day.

Is ND trying to become for Nigerians what USC/BYU are for Polynesians? I approve.

I approve as well. It's like a light bulb went on with the Mokwuah recruitment and, considering BK's NSD comments about targeting kids who value education and have a passion for getting a degree from ND, it makes a lot of sense.

Which makes me curious how many players have had with Nigerian descent.. off the top of my head...Chinedum Ndukwe, Romeo Okwara, Pete Mokwuah...who else?

Shembo's family is from Dem. Rep. of Congo...

From Shembo's UND.com bio:

son of Maurice and Gina Shembo ... father moved to United States in 1986 from Democratic Republic of the Congo

I'd broaden Nigerian to recent immigrants of African decent.

But Nigerians are different culturally than other African nations, as most countries in Africa are different from each other. The value Nigerians place on education is much higher than that of other African countries.

Bernard Akatu, he was a walk on of Nigerian descent

FWIW ESPN did quote BK as saying...
"We've had a great Nigerian connection here, Romeo Okwara, Prince Shembo, just to name a few, and then Pete was able to connect Catholic institution, goes to a Catholic school. That profile fit very well for us."

Nigerians live in countries not named Nigeria... Actually you're probably better off looking at tribal identity for descent.

Oh, man...Major fail by BK... I always thought Prince was Nigerian too but I recently did some research on the subject and found out he wasn't, hence why I didn't list him a few posts above.

Huh? All I was saying is Nigerians, no matter what country they live in, or even if they are 1st or 2nd generation, are not the same as, say Ghanaians, Congolese, South African, Liberian, etc. It's like saying Australians share the same culture as Kiwis or Samoans...it's just not accurate.

Haha I know me too. BK probably meant a broader sense
