Big big series win for ND hockey this weekend. A tie and a win against #9 Providence on the road, and Summerhays had 86/88 saves. First Hockey East road win since November 2nd. Puts us back into the top 16 of the postseason rankings. Get 2 against a bad Boston U team next weekend at Compton and we should be sitting well for the playoffs.

Hockey's Second Season - Let The Postseason Begin! - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

College hockey's second season begins this weekend for the Notre Dame hockey team as the Irish begin postseason play with the opening round of the Hockey East playoffs.

Notre Dame plays host to Boston University in a single-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Sat., March 8. Tickets remain for the game and are available at the Murnane Family Ticket Office, at UND.com/tickets or by calling 574-631-7356.

The Irish closed out the Hockey East regular season last Saturday with a big win over No. 1-ranked Boston College, a 2-1 overtime win at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The win ran Notre Dame's current win streak to four games and the Irish are unbeaten in their last six (5-0-1). They finished the regular season with a 20-12-2 overall record and a 9-9-2 mark, good for 20 points and a share of seventh place with Vermont.

Beat Boston University 3-2 in South Bend tonight to win the first round of the Hockey East tournament. Next weekend we play @Boston College 2 out of 3. If we pull a miracle and win that, we move on to the semifinals of the tournament.

Irish Advance In Hockey East Playoffs With 3-2 Win Over Boston University - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

Goals by Bryan Rust, Jeff Costello and Peter Schneider and 25 saves by goaltender Steven Summerhays were just what Notre Dame needed as the Irish knocked off Boston University, 3-2, on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd at the Compton Family Ice Arena.

The first-round Hockey East win advances Notre Dame to the best-of-three quarterfinals next weekend, March 14-16 against top-seeded Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Boston University battled Notre Dame from start to finish and got goals from Evan Rodrigues and Robbie Baillargeon in the loss. Goaltender Matt O'Connor stopped 26-of-29 Irish shots in the game.

The win extended Notre Dame's winning streak to five straight games and unbeaten run to seven games (6-0-1) while the overall record improves to 21-12-2 for the year. The Irish entered the game ranked 12th in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll and 11th in the USCHO.com rankings.

Holy crap! I was listening on the radio in the car and they scored in the 2nd period on a power play to make it 2-1, and then BC started dominating for a stretch. I left for the night, and then I see the score....DAMNNNNNN! That's a helluva win. Team is putting it together at the right time....

Just defeated Boston College 4-2 and won the 3 game series 2-1. Huge win. They advance to the Hockey East semi final next week.

We're now 6th in the nation according to pairwise, and 8-1-1 in the last 10. One of the hottest teams in the nation, at exactly the right time. Should be a fun Hockey East tournament and NCAA tournament.

Irish Knock Off Boston College, 4-2, Advance To TD Garden - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

The win improves 11th-ranked Notre Dame to 23-12-2 while second-ranked Boston College goes to 26-7-4. The Irish will play at TD Garden in Boston on Friday, March 21 against UMass-Lowell in the 5:00 p.m. game.

This marks just the second time in the 30-year history of Hockey East that either Boston College or Boston University has not been in the Hockey East finals. The only other year it happened was 1988.

Irish Fall To UMass-Lowell, 4-0, In Hockey East Semifinals - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish knew they would have a tough test in facing the second-seeded UMass-Lowell River Hawks in the opening Hockey East semifinal game on Friday afternoon at TD Garden.

The Irish had lost a pair of regular season games to the River Hawks in November by 1-0 and 3-1 scores with Lowell goaltender Connor Hellebucyk stopping 74-of-75 shots in that sweep.

Well, the Irish still haven't solved Hellebuyck as the River Hawks' goaltender stopped all 35 shots he faced to record his second shutout of the season against Notre Dame, as he blanked the Irish, 4-0, to send UMass-Lowell into the Hockey East Championship game on Saturday against the winner of the Providence College - New Hampshire semifinal.

The first team all-Hockey East selection finished the season stopping 109-of-110 shots against Notre Dame in three games.

Irish To Face St. Cloud State In NCAA West Regional - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

Notre Dame, Ind. - The Notre Dame hockey team's postseason will continue this coming weekend when the Irish, seeded second in the NCAA West Regional, will face the third-seeded St. Cloud State Huskies at 8:00 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, March 29 at the XCel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. This marks the first time that Notre Dame has been a second seed in a hockey regional.

Also in the regional are the top-seeded, Minnesota Golden Gophers, who will play host to the Robert Morris Colonials in the opening game of the regional at 4:30 p.m. (CT) on Saturday. The winners of the two games will meet at 6:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, March 30.

Notre Dame's game with St. Cloud State is a rematch of last year's Midwest Regional opener in Toledo, Ohio where the Huskies handed the Irish a 5-1 loss as they advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four. This year's meeting will be televised on ESPNU/Watch ESPN. The Minnesota-Robert Morris game can be seen on ESPN2/Watch ESPN while Sunday's Regional championship will be available on ESPNU/WatchESPN.

Irish Prepare For NCAA West Regional In St. Paul, Minnesota - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

The Notre Dame hockey team arrived in St. Paul on Friday afternoon after a one-hour flight from South Bend as they begin preparations for the NCAA Hockey West Regional on Saturday afternoon.

The Irish practiced at the Xcel Energy Center from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. in their final tune-up before facing St. Cloud State at 8:00 p.m. (CT) on Saturday night in the second game of the regional. The University of Minnesota will square off against Robert Morris University in the first game at 4:30 p.m. (CT).

Saturday's Notre Dame-St. Cloud State will be televised live on ESPNU with Clay Matvick and Sean Ritchlin calling the action. The Minnesota-Robert Morris game will be shown on ESPN 2. Sunday's regional title game will be shown on ESPNU.
