effusive praise returned with jaded cynicism.

Yankees fans.......priceless.

That's a good one. I did like Wade. But of course he did win a championship with the Yankees.

I figured I would inject some common ground.

I remember the '96 NY win where he worked a bases loaded walk to bring in the lead run.

Tell me about the World Series he won with Boston. I'm having trouble recalling that one.

I did not mean to infer he won a WS with Boston, only he was a class act that played for hated rivals.

He was one of favorite players growing up.

Lefties have the best swings, and I have no clue why.

Cause they finish pointing to 1st base like they know where their going unlike righties that end up pointing to 3rd then have to unwind their bodies so they can head to first.

Tino Martinez had a sweet swing too.

Mike Piazza was about as sweet as it gets for a righty I think.

I'm a big Jeter fan... even still the non-stop coverage this year long goodbye lap will get will almost certainly drive me crazy.

How can anyone not be a fan of Jeter... ?? Just sayin.

Jeter and I share the same home town. He attended school and was friends with a family member of mine. I had several opportunities to meet Jeter and have my son meet him and take pictures with him, I opted not to do it. I'm a sports fan, but there are very few individual players I'd make it a point to meet if I had the chance. For some reason he just never struck me as one of them.

How does your son feel about that?

He's 13 now and last year was most likely our last opportunity. He's not a sports nut, so at this point he doesn't understand. The reason I chose to not do it was that it may have removed the opportunity for another Father/Son to do the same opportunity. Being I'm not a huge fan, and my son isn't either, I figured there was no reason to take what could be a great memory for another family just to say hi.

Honestly the most impressive thing he's ever accomplished, including baseball.

The Jeter overrated argument is ridiculous. He played the game the way it was meant to be played. Yes, he enjoyed a lot of years playing around other great ballplayers, but he did so with tremendous respect for his team, opponents, and the game itself. My only knock on him was that he didn't have great range nor did he have the greatest arm for a SS. But the guy is a class act and that is hard to find in professional sports these days.

Didn't see it mentioned yet, but Jeter is also the only Yankee with 3,000 hits. Quite remarkable considering the history of the Yankees.

BTW....There are others who have been on the Yankees that have 3,000 hits but they did it before or after they were with the pinstripes.

Also, don't forget Rod Carew when you talk about sweet swings. He was winning batting titles year after year.

Anyway, he's all class, all day long... poster boy for America's team (they are, sorry Atlanta, just like the Cowboys, who I HATE, they are also American's team) and one of the greatest ever...

I'm named after Hank Aaron so I have a real special place for him... love Lou Gehrig, Love Christy Mathewson's story... Buck O'Neil,... Jack... as an Angel fan I love Wally Joyner and Tim Salmon.. those are 'my guys'... Jeter is the only one still going I'd throw in my all time group at the moment...

plus, who wouldn't want that guys life??? My gosh. He'll get to the gates of heaven one day and everything will stop... St. Pete and Jesus and everyone will walk over and say... "Okay, tell us all about it."

Given his sexual proclivity, they might actually ask him this question but not for the purpose that is implied in your post.

Anyway, what I find interesting about Jeet, who has had a very nice career, is that on any of the teams that he played on he was never in the top three of the best players on each individual team. What is also interesting, is that after Williams and O'Neil retired, the Yank's only won one world series; which was won primarily by Matsui and Rodriguez.
