This was a name that came up a couple weeks ago. Apparently he missed some phone calls by the staff and is just now getting back in touch. Elston and cooks extended the offer today and he's probably coming this weekend for an OV. Didn't go on his Tenn. visit last weekend so if he comes to ND this weekend it will be an Oklahoma vs. ND battle for this kid. Per II update

If his offers are legit than He's the #1 DT remaining on our board IMO.

Updated to remove Nelson. Will add Garnett as plans become firm for him to make a visit. Basically status quo all around... next week is going to be interesting, got 4 spots for a bunch of coin flips + trying to make sure we hold on to Hill. Buckle up.

What are the decision schedules for these guys? Before, during, or post NSD?

Everyone is a NSD decision right now. McKenzie, Alexander, Cage, Garnett, Sawyers could all pull the trigger earlier than that hypothetically. Quick and Juju are both almost 100% surely announcing on NSD.

Pretty surprised Sawyers cancelled his visit in favor of Tennessee. Must be all-in on going SEC. I think Ole Miss is definitely the team to beat there.

I was surprised by that as well. We were going to get there visit, not they are going to get ours, haha. I think it has a lot to do with being close to home. Apparently his mother is very big on that.

Correct Lucky. Knoxville, Atlanta and Oxford are pretty easy drives from Nashville.

I think he's decided he's going to Ole Miss anyway and he figured, if he's going to take a visit just for fun, UT, where he likely knows a lot of people, would be a more fun visit than ND in the freezing cold.

Here are the completely subjective and unscientific odds I'd put on each prospect right now:

McKenzie
ND - 30%
Ole Miss - 30%
Florida - 30%
VT or another random school - 10%
I think this one is completely up in the air on so many levels.

Quick
Oklahoma - 55%
ND - 40%
Any Cali school - 5%
I think it's an Oklahoma-ND battle with Oklahoma having a lead right now, but we still have coach visits on tap that can change that. I don't think the Cali schools are out, but I think they trail by a heavy margin right now.

Cage
Michigan State - 60%
ND - 30%
Louisville, Illinois, Missouri - 10%
I think MSU has a solid lead right now but he's not a top priority for them, which could allow ND to make a power move. I don't think any of the other schools are really in that position right now, but Missouri has the ability to make a strong move on their OV.

Garnett
Oklahoma - 80%
ND - 20%
Two horse race, odds may go way up after his OV, but right now we trail by a LOT and Stoops has been putting in serious work.

Alexander
Stanford - 50%
Notre Dame - 40%
Ole Miss - 10%
Think Ole Miss is all but out. I think he and the family care about academics too much. Sucks that Stanford didn't shoot themselves in the foot and deny his application.

So ND is basically running second or even at best for every prospect left in the "realistic" group. When you add up the odds, we should probably be able to wrangle one guy maybe two. With some luck, 3 at most. So no way we come into the year at 85 scholarships. With that being said, we hit all needs if we get a DT + return man... and frankly, the bigger issue is that Niklas (and Atkinson to a lesser degree) left early when that was never projected. Even with decommits, we should be recruiting towards 2 open spots not 4.

Not even worth putting odds on JuJu?

Hehe I don't think we're just a hat on the table for Juju, and maybe we'll pull off the greatest in-home visit ever, but let's just say I'd put the odds at "low but not zero."

I was only asking because multiple sources seem to have different views on where he stands. I was listening to the Power Hour from Monday and those guys seem weirdly confident that we have a decent shot.

Basically, Juju tells ND all the right things. And is entertaining an in-home visit. So information coming out of the ND camp is positive.

Everyone else thinks he's a stone-cold lock for USC.

So I could see him picking ND... I just think all signs currently point to him at USC with his uncle.

As a Notre Dame fan, I can admit that I've engaged in some wishful thinking on this one.

The thought of a kid that fits so much of what ND is looking for, including the athletic potential to help us get to that next level, is difficult to avoid. It adds extra weight that we're competing with our biggest rival, a place playfully synonymous with the fiery depths of hell.

Yet, I recently stumbled on an older article from December that further sobered me up on my perspective, even though the author expresses a clear bias against ND.

JuJu Smith and the Life of a Five-Star Recruit

He's a good kid, a mature kid, close to his family, who doesn't want to let people down.

But in the end, he's all USC.

I'd happily welcome anywhere else, though most especially with us.

@Lax

You think Kelly and Co. take both Quick and McKenzie if they both want in?

Alexander is a take no matter what, correct?
