I mean... are we sure that's not the point? Like, I read that as a "hmmm... fill in the blank... I have a decision to make..."

Staff has been trying to get in touch with him for a couple months. Huh?
Elston visiting tomorrow to finalize plans, academics are important to him, Christian feels like ND has a real shot despite getting involved in a less than timely fashion.
For how low he is rated he has some nice offers (Texas, Ohio St, Oklahoma and Oregon).
Not only that:
He was committed to Texas since June, plus Ohio State offered him two weeks before that commitment. So he was kinda blowing up at that point.
He decommitted from Texas on January 7th. Oregon offered two days later.
DO WANT.
Getting two Louisiana kids like Alexander and Garnett would be nice. A state where we ought to get a couple of kids now and then.
Christian edited his post to say "weeks" instead of months, fwiw.
Yep. Different coaches. Different needs. Different philosophies.
Most of the DTs BVG has offered are more of the typical playmaking DTs. The DTs Diaco was after are space eaters and not the "get up the field" type.
I think it was part of the problem with the defense the last couple years, is that ND put too much stock into their DEs/CATs. Now, KAP, Tuitt, Lynch, Day, Ishaq, Shembo proved they could get to the QB, but not at consistent level where they could afford to not have a DT that could get up the field. Nix could do that, but overpowering a double team on pass plays just isnt going to work sometimes.
The 2014 has pass rushers off the edge, and now you are seeing a wave of DTs that can get up the field.
I had always said DT wasnt a need when Diaco was here, and by the recruiting offers, it was evident he felt that the players he had coming in, and on the roster could fill Nixs role. Now with BVG you can see they are already recuriting more aggressive Dline players.
would really be interesting to see what Sheldon Day could do as a weakside DT in a 4-3, i think he would be really destructive in there.
I asked the MB what they thought of him and academics came up from a couple people. But it seems like he will qualify now, maybe that's why ND offered 8 days before signing day.
He tweeted two ACT scores, the higher one was a 18 on most recent test in December. Anyone know what he needs to qualify?
Dat Offer List.
Seriously tho Diaco wtf?
Size-Strength-Speed
On paper he has just adequate height and bulk, but looks to be a thickly-built kid with an above average reach for his size. Has good playing strength and with some time could still potentially add some more needed good size to his frame. Displays an adequate-to-good initial burst off the ball.
Versus the Run
Might not be the biggest prospect at this stage, but demonstrates that he can be a stout presence against the run. Displays the ability to fire out low and roll his hips at contact, and he does a good job of shooting his hands and can uncoil, extend and stand a blocker up, locate the ball and violently shed. Flashes good ability to take on the double team. This is a solid wrap-up tackler who can finish when he gets hands on a ball carrier.
Pass Rush Skills
Can create some pressure as a pass rusher as he can get under blockers' pads with the strength to generate push back to press the pocket. Also flashes the ability to attack half-a-man and be active with his hands in trying to work past. Needs to further develop and refine his pass rush arsenal, but flashes the tools to be effective as an interior pass rusher.
Toughness/Motor
Comes across as a tough and physical interior player. Displays some awareness of blocking schemes and comes across the ball, quickly flattens and can be active along the line of scrimmage.
Bottom Line
Garnett is not a big, disruptive force, but is a strong, tough and active defender who demonstrates the tools to develop into a steady, productive college defensive tackle.
Is it going to turn out that the reason we don't do well enough with DT's is that we don't offer enough?
I cannot imagine it is all "prospect grade" problems that keep us from offering these kids, because this kid looks to be a stone killer! Or academics. That is what you want up front.
And it couldn't be height after Donald and Whitlock.

What? No violent hands? Do not want!

Said Cooks reached out to him two weeks ago.
Working on getting up to SB this weekend.
Interested in Mendoza.
Oklahoma is the front runner along with Tennessee running 2nd.
Is he making a NSD decision or waiting until after? Just seems odd that he's making a last-second visit to a school he has had no contact with right before NSD.
He basically skipped his Tenn. OV last weekend and instead of going on that trip is coming to ND so not sure how big of a threat they really are.
