How come this didn't freak everyone out?

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Vanderbilt just offered</p>— Kolin Hill (@KoLiNHill45) <a href="https://twitter.com/KoLiNHill45/statuses/426775730295291904">January 24, 2014</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Have you read a word in this thread? Vanderbilt isn't his dream offer or an in-state school or a football powerhouse.

I think he was pointing out Kolin essentially put the same enthusiasm in Texas offering as he did in his Vandy tweet and yet were all freaking out over an offer without any visit being confirmed

I take that with a grain of salt. Just like religion being the most important thing to Juju. Recruits often say what reporters and coaches want to hear. It is what it is, and it will all be over in 11 days!

Sure. Like I said: "If Hill's really thinking that way." But that line didn't come of as the sort of blah cliche you tell someone because you think it's what they want to hear. It read like it's something that's actually on his mind. Time will tell.

The new staff can simply say the old staff was nuts and why Texas sucked. We are here to win a nc and recognize true talent. We want Texas talent to win in Texas just as you dreamed about as kid shouting hookem horns.

If he visits he is Phillip Phillips

stlnd01 is right. He'll stick. Sure the new staff can say the old staff was nuts, but it still doesn't change the fact they are late in the game. Plus BK and staff have stayed in contact and let him know how important he is. I think this kid has seen his heart torn up by being ignored by UT until just now.

If that is the case then we probably have no shot at Cage. Cage called ND his dream school or something along those lines but we never pushed for him. Now we have a new DC and are all over him and we expect him to commit because he loved us from the start? Well then the same could be said about Kolin drooling over the TX offer and rethinking his commitment to ND.

Thought Hill was perfect for a SAM in a 4-3. Really want to hold onto him. I don't think Sykes could play there.

Pressure will be intense on him to flip to the Horns. He's within an hour from Austin, has probably been on campus a hundred times. Hope Irish can hold on to him, will be a great piece to the class if he comes.

The steal of the class was stolen from us.

That's different. Cage isn't committed to anybody, so ND doesn't have an uphill battle for him. Essentially, they start on the same ground as everybody else. With Hill, he's been committed to ND for months, and they were the first major college program to give him a serious look. Not to mention that his family seems to be really pushing ND, especially his dad.

I try to stay optimistic, but if he OVs, he's gone.

It's just the nature of the game.

You win some.

You lose some.

What's the backup plan?

He hasn't even been committed for two months yet (about 1.5).

This is one of those rare times that I itch to tweet at a recruit. I won't do it, but I want to. ND coaches + fans think he will be a star. At Texas, he is just a backup plan filler to get to 85 now that Strong whiffed on a couple guys.

They're going to feed him BS about "the old staff was idiots! we love you!" and things like that, but it's garbage. This staff is brought over from Louisville, and if they liked him so much why didn't Louisville offer him? Why has Charlie strong been on the job for almost a whole month and is just now getting around to offering him? This needs to be communicated to him, and hopefully Kelly does it Monday. Gloves-off, "negative" recruiting. Only way you win this battle.

This. If someone is seriously looking for a school with a strong religious presence, they don't sign with a program that is notorious for skirting the rules and regularly winding up on probation.

So many Debbie Downers on this site. Go BK.

Agreed. I think Kelly is going to lock things up on his visit. He is ND's #1 OLB with Yeargin gone. At Texas, he's nothing more than a backup plan. Just don't see Hill flipping now. Texas was too late to the party.

I think tweeting him, even from someone I respect as much as you, is a bad idea. We don't personally know Kolin or know the angle the staff is using. I can't think of a single time where tweets from a fan base positively effected a recruitment. Regardless of how good your points are (and I totally agree with you), we have no idea how they jive with the messaging from the staff.

We are just dudes on a message board. We pay our staff a lot of money to be expert recruiters. Let's let them do their jobs.

Tweeting at 17/18 year old recruits always seems a bit wrong/creepy to me... but that is just me.

I think I should reemphasize the "I'm not going to do it" part haha... I just think the message is a clear one and it needs to be communicated to him. Which is why I've got such an itch to do it. I'm hopeful that Brian Kelly takes the gloves off. Charlie Strong absolutely will.

I've seen college athletics up close, and academics aside you go to the place where people believe in you as a Plan A difference maker if you care about success on the field. Actions speak louder than platitudes and there is no doubt that he is/was not a priority for this staff ever... either at Louisville or Texas... regardless of whatever lines they try to pitch him from here forward.
