Being from TN, all I have heard about is UT lately... Which is good and bad.

Good: When UT is good the state just has a better aura about it.

Bad: I have to hear all the rednecks around here talk about UT going to National Championship every year until they realize they can't beat Florida.

My question about Butch Jones is.... Is he running off what Brian Kelly did for him. Butch took over for Kelly at CMU and UC and his success was based off Kelly's recruits. I think he has done a hell of a job and its crazy they have this good of a class. I just want to know if he is for real or just successful because he followed in the footsteps of a great coach.

Metric Shows Jones Among Coaching Elite - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics

This link was shown here a couple of weeks ago. Shows coaching efficiency rankings. Last year's rankings were 1) Saban 2) Miles 3) Kelly 4) Jones

I think he has a lot to prove since he walked in to great situations as you mentioned. However, I think he's a pretty damn good coach.

I kinda feel the same way. Jones to UT was the perfect storm.

A (formerly) elite SEC team with strong tradition.
A (formerly) elite SEC team with strong tradition desperately in need of a coach on the rise.
A very good coach.
A very good coach who seemed to walk into favorable coaching vacancies.

Ipso facto, Tennessee gets Jones and Jones gets Tennessee.

What part of TN are you from? I just recently moved there for a job.

Sad that we missed him, but Tennessee has always been my favorite SEC team (which isnt saying too much). I like the color orange and it is Peyton Manning's (the best QB ever) alma mater.

Where do you live? I've lived in pretty much every area of TN (except Memphis, that's Mississippi no matter what any map says). You'll love the state, southern hospitality without the nearly the same amount of white trash as some others *coughalabamacough*

I live in knoxville and it sucks to have to listen to the fans here. I'm sure that's the same in most towns if you're not a hometown fan.

I used to listen to Tennessee Sports Radio all day. It is consistently hilarious to hear UTK fans talk themselves up and then become depressed once the season starts.

Yep, kind of like ND fans the past several years. And every other fan of every other school not named Bama the last several years.

I know you're a Tennessee fan on the side, but there really is no comparison even if you take the 6-6 Weis years into account. The level of expectation versus reality has been at an all time disparity in Knoxville for the last 5 years. "Fear the pants"... and get beat by Kentucky and smoked by Vandy.

They'll be good soon though. Butch Jones is a hell of a coach. I see a very similar movement at UT as we've had at ND. First year: Improvement but some head scratching losses and those who are sick of losing jump the gun and get angry. Second year: System still isn't full in place, good recruiting but mediocre record. People who are smart are still grateful that there have been two decent seasons in a row. Third year: Rolling.

I actually don't think Butch Jones gets it done at UT. I think they improve but not enough to meet fan and media expectations. They feel like they should beat Florida and Alabama 1/2 the time. Reasonable in the 90's & early 2000's and maybe possible in the future. The problem is, they want IMMEDIATE Saban like results. Not going to happen. After they get beat by Oregon and Florida early in the yeAr, you'll see the fans turn on Butch.

I currently live in Chattanooga where I go to college till I graduate in December. I grew up in Nashville, it is one of the best places to grow up. Minus the redneck UT fans everything else is great in the South.

Clarksville, TN. Tennessee has been great so far. I have noticed that the girls a little bit better in the South so far. :) The sad thing is that there seems to be plenty of Bama fans in my department. :(

My wife and I went to the ND/UT game in Knoxville back in 2001(?). The fans were great and hospitable. Great game day atmosphere. I would like to see the Vols back on top in the SEC, but it will take some work. This will be the litmus test for Jones.

There are few things that make me immediately dislike a person more than a Bama fan that lives/grew up in Tennessee.

Mouhon took an official visit to Cincinnati this past weekend which is where his brother goes. Originally Vol fans dismissed it as him just wanting to see his brother, but now are getting a bit more worried as he didn't want to go on record about his visit and now rumblings that the visit might have been more serious then what most people originally thought.

Would love to see him stick at UT. 5 of their 6 LBs in the two deep are seniors. Bryant will likely start out in the 2 deep if as advertised, and is a better prospect, but Mouhon is no slouch.

My brother lives in the Clarksville area and is stationed at Fort Campbell. My Mom, Step-Dad and Sister live in Johnson City. I absolutely love TN and jump at any opportunity to visit. Of course Step- Dad is huge Vol fan but I guess it could be worse, he could be a Bama fan.

So are you gonna be TNNDHoosier?...lol

nah, because I am not a "fan" of Tennessee like I am Notre Dame and Indiana. Tenn and Vandy are my favorite SEC teams, mostly because I hate all the other teams, especially Kentucky, but I would not consider myself a fan. Though the girl I am dating is a huge UT fan, I may end up going to a game next year, and I have yet to go to South Bend!

I always wanted Mouhon, but I am pretty comfortable with the LB class we have now.

Wondering what's going on in Knoxville? They've lost a couple in the last few days.

The funny thing is that back in December the Vol's were all excited about a rumor that his brother Silverberry was considering a transfer to Tennessee. Couldn't have crashed and burned in a more glorious fashion for the Vols
