Penn State is a premiere name, to be certain. But the "brand" of the programs you mentioned are on a totally different tier. PSU's two national titles aren't even in the same conversation as Texas (4 national titles), USC (7 national titles), Notre Dame (8 national titles), or Alabama (10 national titles).

I'm not sure they'll be able to compete in recruiting moving forward. Doesn't mean they won't ever be good...I'm just not sure they'll be a consistent top 10-15 team moving forward. But again, I may be wrong.

Gosh damn it!! Bama doesn't really have 10 titles!

Open NFL jobs:
-Browns: interested in a college coach, per reports.
-Lions: Contacted Brian Kelly, among others. Looks like they're aiming for a more veteran NFL coach.
-Vikings: Apparently interested in a college coach if it's the "right guy."
-Titans: Just fired Mike Munchak, no candidates have surfaced yet.
-Redskins: Unless it's Briles (won't happen), almost surely going after a pro coordinator.

So there are 5 open jobs, with the Browns most likely to go for a college guy (Stoops?) but everyone else leaning towards a pro coach it seems.

A raise and a contract extension? For what?

The raise and extension was contingent on Munchak firing more than a dozen staff members. He said no thanks.

I dislike them, but I think Missouri is a better job than Penn State.

I have to agree with buster here. With the talent in that area if Penn state could hire someone that can recruit they could be a very competitive in that division and a top 25 team.

Crazy that Vegas was so confident in Strong to Texas from the start (they had him at 2:1) despite all the other names mentioned. Vegas always knows.

Yeah. There's a lot of talent on Penn State's turf (which basically includes everything east and north of Pittsburgh up into New England. That's a lot of people and no other big-time programs). The Big Ten's not that great. There's no reason they can't compete for Big Ten titles if they get their act together. But they've got to hire a good coach.

I know that Al Golden has a previously scheduled end of season press conference tomorrow. I haven't heard anything about that being cancelled or that there is one scheduled for PSU (except from Chosen1).
