Update on Texas search from Horns247:

List started as this:
Nick Saban- Alabama
Jimbo Fisher – Florida State
Urban Meyer – Ohio State
Jim Harbaugh – San Francisco 49ers
Gus Malzahn – Auburn

From that list only this is remaining:
Jimbo Fisher – Florida State

New names added:
James Franklin- Vanderbilt (soon to be dropped)
Art Briles of Baylor
Louisville's Charlie Strong
Florida's Will Muschamp
Jim Mora of UCLA

Search narrowed at this moment to:
1. Fisher
2. Briles
3. Strong

Bobby Burton who I personally think is better than Chip Brown, is very confident it will be one of those three hired.

I'll admit that Briles' offense with Texas' athletes is a scary proposition for 2015 and 2016.

I'd go with the wild card. He looks the part:

I find it hard to believe Will Muschamp would be added to any list. Dude is awful and lucky he wasn't fired this year.

Eh, Briles has had far more talent on offense than anything Texas has currently on the shelves.

RGIII, Josh Gordon, Kendall Wright, Terrence Williams... all currently good to great NFL players. Same thing with this current crop of players still in school... an awful lot of talent. Unless Swoopes develops into something special and they add more talent at WR, I think he is taking a serious downgrade in talent to move to Texas. The good news is that he'd probably bring some recruits (KD Cannon, etc.) with him on the move.

I should have worded it, "with the atheltes Texas could bring in." I agree that Baylor has had more explosive players but now Texas would be able to recruit those types of players at the 5 :s: level.

think you have to add les miles to this list. hes one of the few that hasnt signed a contract extension (i think) recently. I think his name should and will surface in the nfl also. imo

Signed one about a year ago after flirting with Arkansas.

The talent at Texas is really underestimated. Texas will always and has always been stacked with talent. Their 2011 class was ranked #4 overall by 247 and was stacked with guys like Malcom Brown and Shipley. Their 2012 class was ranked #2 overall by 247 with dudes like Johnathon Gray and Malcom Brown. Their 2013 class was ranked #17, but had some nice pieces like Swoopes and Kent Perkins. Their 2014 class is currently ranked #12 and they very well may land Solomon Thomas.

They are much more talented then they get credit for.

Ha, you counted MB twice, but I agree; Texas' problem hasn't been talent. It's been execution-- chock that up how you may, but it's lead to Mack's departure.. Briles or the Don would be the best hires. Like flipping a coin which side of the ball is dominant.

Two different dudes (one is a RB, the other a DT). Both named Malcom Brown, both 5 star recruits.

Just goes to show you how important a good coaching staff is. Right USC?

Looks like VanGundy and Dantoni are being rumored as possible candidates for Texas. Texas has said they want to have the new coach in place by Jan 15.

Heard on Dan Patrick that Franklin is being rumored for PSU.

From what I can figure, O'Brien will end up either at Texas or Detroit. My guess is Detroit since the rumors before Black Monday all had him as a done deal at Texas.

I hung out with my buddy tonight that works for Charlie Strong. I asked him if he's still, more or less, holding out for the South Carolina job, and he said yes. He's willing to stay at Louisville another year or 2 and wait for Spurrier to retire. I asked him about Texas, even bringing up all that UT involves/brings to the table, and he said he'd be shocked if he took the job there, if offered. Bottom line on the Texas job is that Strong doesn't know anybody at UT...or really even in Texas, so he just wouldn't feel "comfortable" there. South Carolina is his desired job (he and his wife loved it there before), and the only other schools he'd leave Louisville for are Georgia, Florida (with the caveat there, though, that he and Jeremy Foley don't like each other and "are basically not on speaking terms")...and Notre Dame.

We'll see how it all plays out though. Personally, I think (if offered) the Texas job would be pretty damn tough to turn down and it's tough for me to imagine a coach not already at a Top Tier school turning them down, but stranger things have happened. And again, this is all based on the premise of him actually being offered the job.

Just thought I'd pass this along.

I don't believe the Vikes have any real interest in Bevell. He was fired as the OC there before and I don't think Spielman wants anyone with ties to the Childress/Frazier eras. I think Spielman's just casting his nets wide.

Dan Quinn on the other hand may be a different story. However I personally am hesitant to hire a coordinator who is on the first year on the job and inherited a stacked defense to begin with.

I'm not a lions fan, can you explain what's so typical?

Because Tom Cable is a bad head coach. He was the HC for the Raiders a few years ago and didn't do a very good job. I was not sad when he was fired. :)

Who hasn't had a bad team in Oakland since Gruden? Nobody.

Cable is a pretty well respected coach and did better in Oakland, despite Al Davis being in his prime of crazy, then any coach since Gruden. He also had to follow Kiffin's mess.
