A few counterpoints:

1. Auburn isn't our most hated rival

2. He actually had an offer from Auburn

3. Folston was one of our top 5 most coveted recruits of last year's cycle so he gets a bit more leeway from the staff/fans. May not seem fair but the better you are the more acceptable it becomes to look around. In other words, we were just happy that he was 50% committed.

4. Folston wasn't publicly begging for attention IIRC.

To be fair, there are a lot more questions about Tyler than there were about Folston. Also, Folston got a late push from AU - not the other way around. Additionally, Folston didn't taking out a personal ad in Twitter basically begging for an offer from another school(s).

I guess mostly this ^ lol

Counter to your counterpoint:

1. Folston tried to commit to a different school. That may eventually be the case with Tyler but so far it isn't.

On very good authority, Folston wanted to go to Auburn, and if he got his way on NSD, he'd be there. There is a reason his LOI got sent in so late.

Having said that, I agree you in that Luatua rubs me the wrong way, much more than Folston did. They are/were both "committed" in the sense that they really aren't/weren't, but Luatua seems far less committed and is very open about it. Plus as you said, the whole begging for an offer thing irks the heck out of me.

BTW, USC fans in Rivals have heard the same things I have heard about him and don't even want him. And we all know, fans know more than anyone and are never wrong.:bbanana:

I'll add this once again for anyone thinking I'm bashing the kid...I would really like to add him to the class, but only if his heart is set on ND and his heart is set on being a great football player. If not, it's not a loss at all.

It's obvious whomever was giving Folston guidance is a genius.

It will be interesting to see if SC makes a play after the Bryce Dixon announcement. He is set to choose between UCLA and SC and most believe he will be a Bruin. If the Trojans are set on bringing in a TE in this class they might ask Luatua to visit...

Marques Tuiasosopo has accepted an offer to become the tight ends coach at USC

IF they go after a TE then this poly connection just helps them

I think we all know how this story ends. I just hope it's done sooner than NSD to give ND a chance to make a decent move with that scholarship.

I bet he still ends up Irish unless Schultz comes.

Luatua is the biggest attention _____ I've ever seen on twitter. Now that he's committed, he probably just needs his fix.

Remember, he's reportedly loved ND for months now and they've always been the favorite.

I'm torn on him because I thought his film > Schultz's, but was a disappointment in the summer camps, has dropped from the ratings consistently, and seems like a drama queen. I'm completely indifferent at this point.

If this kid spent half as much time working out as he did tweeting, he wouldn't look so umimpressive when he gets his picture taken with other recruits.

Are they bad too?

I followed Luatua for about 3 weeks, but him always asking the world what he should do because insufferable.

Matt Elam is probably the worst I have ever seen. The guy is that annoying fat kid in High school everybody went to school with.

That sounds more promising.

Someone (Loy or Hickey) is completely misinformed or being lied too. The 247 article didn't have just one little quote about him talking to other schools, it was a whole detailed article.

The opportunity to “stay home with family” makes USC more attractive, Luatua said.

“I’ve got family all over California and Utah,” he said. “It’s hard for them to come out East.”

If possible to arrange, he would like to visit USC with third-ranked athlete John Smith of Long Beach (Calif.) Polytechnic and No. 3 offensive guard Damien Mama of Bellflower (Calif.) Saint John Bosco.

Both are uncommitted. Smith is set to make an official visit to the school on Jan. 17.

Alabama also remains an option, Luatua said. His brother, Isaac, plays guard for the Crimson Tide. Luatua visited Alabama in November and said he stays in touch with secondary coach Greg Brown.

He just didn't want to disappoint Hickey....

I think it is completely obvious that he wants to go to SC with his bros Mama and JuJu so he is almost begging for them to show interest at this point.

Yup. It's pathetic. Kid will not pan out at ND with that kind of attitude, we've seen it 100 times.

From Scott Schrader at USC 24/7 re: Luatua

His coach didn't even know he was even considering another school after he committed. Sent me a funny text when I told him about the article.

USC does want to take a TE in this class apparently but have not contacted Luatua as of yet.

In his commitment article with BGI he talked about trying to convince JuJu to come to ND with him and now he's begging for a USC offer.

So basically...
TL: "come to ND!"
JS: "no we're going to SC"
TL: "oh ok, can I come?"

I don't even think he could committ to Bama or USC if he wanted too. Ask any USC or Bama fan they don't want him. If he doesn't come to ND he will end up at like BYU some random school on the west coast. But I'm about 95 percent sure he is coming to ND IMO.

The whole "I want to be with my friends" thing speaks to his maturity. I'm ok with him considering other schools (it's a big decision) but choosing a school because of your friends is kind of lame IMO. Yes...I was 18 at some point but holy crap...grow up!

It's USC dude. It's not like its San Jose State.

The more I read, the more I hope we drop him for someone else.

If he's dropping in the ratings that means he's not getting the attention he did earlier and his antics now seem to be someone who is more interested in himself than the mission of getting an education and playing on a TEAM.

Also, if he's that hell bent on being with Juju, doesn't get an offer and says he'd prefers to stay west for his family, then I can see him coming here and transferring after a semester as he sees the stud TE's ahead of him on the depth chart.
