If I were any NFL franchise looking for a coach David Shaw would be my first choice.

His only college experience was when he played. I think he's a good guy, but I don't think he would be very successful as a college head coach.

As a Titans fan and watching every game he has coached... He was not ready for the big jump from oline coach to head coach and his play calling is awful....very very conservative. However if he were to go to Penn State they would have one hell of an offensive line with high school kids wanting to learn from a hall of farmer... Also pretty funny statement considering the Titans offensive line was very porous throughout the season.

I would feel sorry for the Browns if they hired Schwartz

PSU boards disagree. They are now saying that one of the top targets for replacing O'brien if he leaves will be Munchak.

It's got to be him or Schiano. Both PSU alums that are on hot seats in their current NFL jobs and wouldn't be threats to jump for another pro job.

Schiano would be smart to take it.

no one wanted must have wanted that TB job for him to get it.

With bowl games wrapping up shortly, we'll probably see more rumors on vacancies.

This. Once the top tier coaches get done coaching in their bowl games and big dominoes start falling (Texas job, Briles to Redskins possibly, etc.) this is going to turn into one of the wildest silly seasons in recent memory. Buckle up.

Are there any legit guys saying this is a possibility? If this were to happen, Al Davis (from his grave) and Jerry Jones would even be laughing at Dan Snyder.

This morning Furman's sidekick on Fox Sports radio said Schianno(?) will be the next PSU coach, which if true means O'Brien is the next coach of the Texans.

I would bet they target Shaw but he would be crazy to come to Minny. Aging AP, no QB in sight, awful defense. Not a good situation for a first time NFL head coach

This isn't necessarily NFL related, but it's amazing the short leash in football compared to CBB. I feel like you can win 25 games and never lose your job in NCCA hoops.

The difference in basketball is that 68 teams make the playoffs, where it then basically becomes a crapshoot. So winning consistently enough to be routinely in the top 25 and make the "playoffs" can be considered success at every school except:
-UNC
-Kansas
-Kentucky
-UCONN
-Louisville
-Duke
-UCLA

At those basketball-first schools, it's about final fours, conference championships, and national championships. Anything less is unacceptable.

The hell is going on at Texas??.. It's way too quiet... You have to think they move very quickly after today's game, no?

They've basically got a gag order on everyone involved with the search. The AD told the local ESPN guys that they wouldn't release any information before the contract was signed.

I am pretty surprised they've actually been able to keep it this silent though.

He's not interested in the NFL? Seriously?

Idk why anyone is surprised. It's his alma mater. I wouldn't want to leave ND to coach anywhere else.

That's why I wouldn't be surprised if O'Brien stayed at PSU.

He could literally make double or triple the money in the NFL. I guess job security is a plus, and with middle eastern oil princes and the like endowing his assistant coaching positions he can now actually retain key guys like no previous Stanford coach.

I'm sure he will get a raise soon. There's just something about leading your alma mater to a national championship that you can't put a price on.
