'14 CA TE Tyler Luatua (Back in Blue)

Schultz visited and had great things to say about ND before Tyler committed though. Why would it bother him more now?

As much as Schultz likes ND, Stanford has been after him more aggressively. Plus, he knows we have "our guy". We've seemingly treated Luatua as our number one pursuit. Back off of Luatua and go all in for Schultz NOW, and we might have a chance at landing him.

Holy shit you guys should read the article... here's a snippet: “I don’t think I’m 100 percent yet, but I gave my word to Coach Denbrock, so I’m still committed to (Notre Dame),” he discussed. “I’m just going to keep in touch with Alabama and some of the local schools.”

Full link: Luatua Still Listening To Schools

The article is mind boggling. What an absolute joke. We should cut bait and go all in on Schultz. Even if he comes here, he has all the red flags of the typical flaky California kid who busts/transfers.

2/10, do not want.

Everything I told you in a PM a month ago, I still believe 1000%. Nothing has changed with him. Because this is a recruit's thread, I'll just leave it at that.

Edit: I think Schultz is going to Stanford, and even with that, I'm fine going all in on him and coming up with nothing at TE.

I think there's a good chance that he's freaked out about the idea that we bring in Schultz.

This is what I think it is. FWIW, Loy said that he has had some conversations with him off the record that Luatua is ok with him sharing after NSD. He continues to believe that ND is where he signs.

I really believe if anyone is a threat it's USC. He wants to play with his boys. Am I right, NDinLA?

Can you put it in a non-recruit's thread so the rest of us can know? lol

I literally said this "a month ago" and got killed for it because it didn't line up with what IrishEnvys recruiting guru thought.

It happens all the time. Case in point, Peppers and Hand. Peppers was all SCUM and was all about getting Hand along with him. They developed a friendship and when Hand spurned SCUM for Bama, it weighed on Peppers. Hand started getting on him about coming to Tuscaloosa and Peppers started waivering. The difference? Peppers could make numerous trips back to Ann Arbor because of location and reaffirm his "commitment"...... for now.

Tyler won't make it back to campus to reaffirm anything and he has multiple friends pulling him to stay in Cali. Friends with stronger bonds then Hand and Peppers. Happens all the time.

USC has a new staff coming in and a dead period to sit and look at recruiting.

I thought I remember a lot of people agreeing with you, with about half the people affirming that he should still be considered a "lock" and pop soon... I guess I'll have to read back. I know I said many times this whole saga made me uncomfortable and it felt like our DaShawn Hand... a guy who was a "lock" but there was clearly something amiss behind the scenes.

In my opinion "lock" is about as useless a word as "commitment" when it comes to recruiting.

We're in agreement.

I'll also say, I'd be stoked if this was our lone defection this year. We're deep at the position with what's already on campus and Weisher is one of the best pass catching tight ends in this class (second to Schultz and maybe Andrews).

Guys, Nic Weishar is going to be pretty good. So is Durham Smythe. We have great TE depth.

I'm not going to knock the kid too hard because I still want him at ND, but I really hope he's not just using us to hold a roster spot because that would be shitty. Here's to hoping he's Irish on signing day.

Lol, I find it hard to believe he ends up here, seems like he only really likes us because others arent after him.

We've all seen this movie before. He's not coming to ND.

Agreed, unless none of the other schools want him. I literally do not want him to sign with ND at this point. It will likely be a waste of a spot as he has all the telltale signs of your classic flaky Cali bust.

If he takes that visit ND should say thanks but no thanks! Go all in for Dalton if neither come so be it, our TE situation is fine.

Not to mention, every sign points to this guy being overrated. He's continually dropped in ratings and sucked at summer camps.

Name one player who continued to fall in the rankings and was knocked on the camp circuit who turned out to be any good?

I was going to say losing him would help even out our depth, but are there any top-flight 2015 TEs on the radar? Jones already committed, and I think he was our #1 target.

Didn't Elmer go through that?

What I don't like about this thread is the "Notre Dame Verbal" next to his name... It should read "Denbrock Verbal". Gimme a kid that defends ND, not slow plays it.
