I agree...........The first semester is always the toughest and at ND it's tougher than the vast majority of other schools. Add in the "What am I doing here?" question that most freshmen ask themselves at one point or another, the change of living away from home (no mom to wake you in the morning or make your dinner) and having to take almost complete control of your life can be overwhelming. I give GB a "thumbs up" and "job well done".

Way back in MY day there strict rules for "streaking." It had to be cold. Mounds of snow were part and parcel. Socks (on the feet) were the only accepted article of clothing.

Running in front of and aside the shuttle bus from SMC to ND was de rigueur. HCH to the Grotto and back. No less.

This was back in the day when ND was still all male and the pikers in the warmth of Gainesville (who made the cover of some magazine like Time) were pretenders.

Granted, there are now more than the North and South Quads – and Holy Cross Hall is rubble, but a scant lap around a single dorm ain't shit.

It's a full Quad or nothin'.

I hate when sports figures make promises it seems like it always turns around and bites them in the rear. I think we should be very excited with some caution.

Not even mad. 2.4 here is a 4.1+ in the SEC. Pretty sure he was lead to believe he couldn't make it at ND academic wise. As opposed to looking down upon him for not excelling, we should give his a pat on the back for doing what some believed he couldn't. Keep it up young man, your time is coming. Focus on the grades, they'll come up, and your time on the field will come soon.

At least we don't have to worry about someone cheating off his test...

...I will recount my uncle's view...when you are an athlete, and you get the sheepskin from Stanford, ND, NW, and a handful of other schools...that IS excellence.

the majority of guys I played football with were the same or less in a far less competitive academic and football environment...the kid is exceptional by most measures...

Sheepskin, good ND citizen, tote the rock on Sundays...development and progress toward those goals is what matters.

I 1st summer class in college I got an A and though wow, college isn't any harder than high school. But it was Comp 1 and I was always very good at English. My 1st full semester I squeaked by with a 2.0. I got 4 C's. I was devastated because I had a 3.7 average in high school and had only gotten maybe 3 C's my entire 4 years in high school. It got better, my 2nd semester I got 2 B's and 2 C's and then I finally started mixing some A's and B's with my C's more consistently. But that 1st year was hard!

Nope he drilled it.

That's just ugly. With no understanding or a ppreciation of the human struggle. I kid who obviously comes from a different educational background as most of us celebrates succeeding at the highest level. Why do we care? We all want him to have a great career at ND and beyond. Sure his mother cares but we should as well. What the $%#@ am i missing?

Hes eligible and playing division one football under one of the brightest spotlights..

As fortune once said, he's also going to walk out of here with a degree from the University of Notre Dame.

I'd give some room to gripe about his gpa if it was hovering around a one or something, but even THAT when you think about it is ridiculous in reality.

No damn reason to nit pick at his grade point average. None.
