How does Nelson compare (pros and cons) to Amir Carlisle? Seem to me on the surface that they are pretty similar. No way Nelson runs a sub 4.4 forty.

Carlisle
Ht: 5-10
Wt:175
40: 4.48
Bench: 230
Vertical: 37
GPA: 4.28

Nelson
Ht: 5'8.5''
Wt: 170lbs
40: 4.39 secs

The difference in 40 speed is somewhat significant if he really runs a 4.39. Like others said we're in a good position right now and if we don't get him it won't be a major loss, but it would be nice to add him.

amir looks faster, maybe he can catch but his highlights did nothing really for me...he def isn't 4.4 or below...more like 4.6

I know Carilise has been in college for three years but I think he is much faster and more explosive then Nelson.

Pre-injury Carlisle makes Nelson look like a tug boat. I'm not sure how explosive he is now with some wear and tear.

Btw I also don't buy that we'll be full when Nelson makes a decision. I'm not optimistic we would land Quick, and he's the only one who could take his spot.

I think maybe the staff will crank the efforts towards Lazard as we get closer to signing day. Quick's recruitment has always been really quiet. Nelson is a guy who the staff I think will say we need to know what your doing or we are moving on. Kind of like the Elam situation. I would also be just fine taking Brent and Holmes in this class. We have never used the slot effectively in BK's system in the 4 years he has been here, so I don't understand the need for it.

The only time it ever worked is when Theo had his coming out party against MSU. Other then that I honestly can't recall when we have utilized it. BK turned Mardy Gilyard into an all american at that position. You're telling me we don't have one guy more talented? IMO they all are.I think the QB situation can take some blame for that. I think Tori Hunter will kill it at the slot IF we freaking utilize it.

my memory is hazy but Gilyard played out wide and just caught fades/go routes all the time right?

They moved Gilyard all over but he played primarily from the slot. He's a pretty short shifty guy. Armon Binns and DJ Woods played outside on the 2009 team.

Kelly offense at Cinnci was so much fun to watch. It's been beyond boring at ND. I wish he would go back to what he did at Cinnci. We have such better skill players then they did. Hopefully we bust it out this year. And go fast and do what Kelly has had so much success with.

Still wants to visit USC, Oregon and West Virginia. I think if USC doesn't have a spot for him we have a real shot but I could also see Oregon as a real threat.

I had a sad when we lost Byron Marshall to them. Honestly thought he was coming here. He seems legit, I'm hoping the same doesn't happen with Nelson.

Byron Marshall decided not to take the Spanish class he needed to get into ND. Hard to say we really lost him to them - in my eyes he fell into their lap after he wasn't a take for us.

That's fair enough. Still feels like a loss to me.

I wouldn't say height has everything to do with throwing slant passes but it does not help when those plays are designed to be ' bang/bang" plays. The good thing about Golson is that he sling the ball without holding the laces, which is a huge plus when running various slant reads. I personally believe that Golson has the ability but his height can be a disadvantage, unlike Barnett who i am unbelievably excited for

I just read an article on Golson that says he now throws using the laces. I guess something he worked on with the QB guru in Cali.

that was one of the things they worked on was him using them...more accuracy

I thought I remember Kelly saying initially that he didn't care if he uses laces or not. Although I have a theory that Kelly covers his players by saying it's his idea, doesn't matter, or of course "get used to it."

Going to visit USC, WVU, Oregon, and Florida now over the coming weeks. My money is starting to move away from him landing at ND and towards him landing at Florida. USC and Oregon could be options too, but he currently doesn't have an actionable offer from either.

Oregon offered.

Can we just call up the Ducks and agree to split IM / CN?

He gone? Think Oregon and Florida will split IM/CN. Which is fine, because we have so many options at returner.
