Big Mike gonna make his non-boxing debut on HBO; Sat Nov. 16 @ 8pm! What a great specimen he was!! I've heard through his interviews he's had, he is starting his own Promotion! "Gotta get the hate back into boxing"! I believe that's true! Im not old enough to have enjoyed Ali, but Tyson was 'The Man' when I was just getting old enough to throw a good left..HA

You can certainly make a god case that the Heavyweight Div. ended with his career...

I think the biggest issue is the Pay Per View thing... when Ali and Joe were doing their thing you could get the fight with basic cable... NOw, how much money would it take to just keep up with boxing???

WWE also cut of their nose on the PPV thing,... far too many of them... it should be a MAJOR event to warrant PPV.

I started boxing when i was a kid, still box to this day at a local gym. I can say with 100% fact i wanted nothing more than to be Mike Tyson growing up haha Never came to close to that goal but say what you want about MT. The dude mentally beat people before he even stepped into the ring

No one has been close since.

Don King... man single handily killed boxing. Maybe Tyson is exactly what that sport needs.

It absolutely did unfortunately. That is why i love the fact that he trying to find a good American heavy weight. It also doesn't help the fact that the klitschko brothers refuse to fight anywhere but Europe.

Your right about the PPV but big money follows big money! If ya had a big money man Ratings... We'd see It! But we got a few great years of mma and that's even fallen off a bit (Ledge meet ground)... Tyson's got some big money guy's obviously who think he might have an answer.. Hehe I'm excited

Who would have thunk it, Mike Tyson is again the savior of the American heavy weight division. No matter what your personnel opinion of MT, he has done nothing but good things for the sport of boxing

I think he actually already made his promotional debut in august on Friday night fights. Do you know who is he promoting for that HBO card? But Mike Tyson was the man. He probably wasn't even the greatest heavyweight of the 90's yet he was one of those mega stars athletes. You think of the biggest athletes of that era and there was probably no one bigger than him except probably Michael Jordan

The problem with boxing today is probably more with its decentralized state. There is no official committee of boxing that overseas the sport throughout the world. Each country has its own authority, hell each US state even has its own committee. Add that in with the multiple sanctioning organizations (WBO, WBC, ect...) that each have their own champions for each weight class. There are not really anymore clear champions in each in individual division anymore. Lastly you have different promotion companies that refuse to work together to make the best fights and those fighters having their own alignment with either Showtime or HBO.

He was the best of the 80's though (37-0). He was never the same after the Douglas upset and his time in prison.

Well on the boxing in general idea..
HBO: HBO Films: Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight: Home

What a man, unlike the myth... He changed things and set it all in motion as to what we see today! Can you imagine a healthy Ali? along with his appeal doing right now what he did then? Pure chaos! But that was boxing then..

It'd have been a shame to see any other demise... Getting hit in the head multiple times was a very simple excuse as to what happened... Geez! Now I made it political, Ha Good movie! check it out if ya can!

It's not a fight, It's his coming of age I guess tell all... I'm not completely sure what is in store for us but I do know he is finding the best of the best, not sure if he's recruiting over seas but he did just return from a Asian area about a week and a half ago..

This.

Not to mention how many damn belts there are. WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO with so many different weight classes. Its tough for people to keep up.

PPV also killed it. What time did the Canelo/Mayweather match start?

I ordered that fight, missed all the under cards due to the ND game but the canelo/mayweather fight didn't start until 12:30

Ali (Clay) vs. Liston was the pinnacle of boxing from what I have seen.

Ali vs. Liston (II) was the pinnacle of Ali's career.

I would take his speed and punching power against anyone at that point in his career.

I'll disagree with you on a couple of points. Ali's speed for a heavyweight was unreal, but his punching power was never more than average. He did have a heck of a chin and could absorb an incredible amount of punishment.

Ali-Liston II was a high point in Ali's career, but I'd say Ali-Foreman or Ali-Frazier III were his signature moments.

"he whooped joe lewis' ass" hahaha gotta love the eddie murphy lines

oh btw, its his mama called him clay, ima call him clay

seriously though i was a fan of the sugar ray fights in the 80's. i would record the tyson fights on my VCR and watch them as a youth and was in awe of his power and mental beatdown he would give the other guys before the fight even started. however, sugar ray was such a technical boxer. i am happy for MT and hope he does well in bringing the sport back. the boxing championship used to be the most prestigious title in the world but has fallen into the nobody gives a damn catagory
