I bet if Nelson had a 5 star running back and a 5 star quarterback, he would be making plays like IM. I doubt IM would be making these kind of plays if he was the only player the opposing team had to key on

McKenzie has a great highlight tape, but I wonder if he ever loses 10-20 yards while trying to make a big play.

IMO I don't know if he has a commitable offer right now.Maybe the staff didn't push hard for him this weekend. I think they are waiting to see what happens with McKenzie

Why does Wiltfong think he commits this week then?

They pushed, IMO. That's what the comment about only taking one more wide receiver was about. They are pushing him to jump on board. They will take two still because there is no way they tell Quick thanks but no.

Idk personally I see McKenzie as nothing more than a nice little complimentary slot receiver. I think we need more players with Gamebreaking speed a la Quick or Nelson.

I see more than that. He reminds me a lot of Tavon Austin in ability. Just elite quickness, stop start ability, great balance, runs hard, just a playmaker.

Cant think of a NFL comparison for CN but he reminds me of Rutgers' Janarion Grant. Speed guy who can help on specials.

Not saying he is Barry Sanders, but even Barry Sanders lost a lot of yards trying to make plays happen. Take the good with the sometimes bad.

This must have been overlooked:

Wiltfong reporting that Nelson could pop this week. He has a source saying it could even be within the next few days

Charles Nelson official visit buzz

The source said it could even be in the next day or so.

Unless Wiltfong is way off (which he hasn't been lately, if ever) Nelson definitely has a committable offer.

Tavon Austin ran a 4.34 at the combine....

Actually no, not a lot of guys are that fast.

I didn't say that fast, I said fast. But what makes Tavon a better prospect than a Marquise Goodwin or a Jacoby Ford (who ran faster 40s) is his quickness.

So according to a poster on BGI, Sampson is saying that Nelson and McKenzie are either/or prospects ... can any II subscribers confirm?

I'm on it.

EDIT: They are either/or. The staff wants a slot receiver, but they're okay with just Brent and Holmes plus the 4 current freshmen if it comes to that.

EDIT #2: Quick is a take no matter what.

Ah, thanks. That seems logical to me.

Seems like the staff likes but doesn't love them. Pete said they are content with Holmes and Brent. Plus the four they brought in last year.

Would rather spend their scholarship on a guy like Marcus Griffin personally.

Meaning definitely either one or the other, but not both? Or meaning possibly one or the other, but not both?

I am not sure what's going on. McKenzie was suppose to visit how long ago? Been waiting on his scores. I think they will get one of the two. I think they are waiting on McKenzie though

Staff wants a slot WR.
They offer McKenzie.
His academics might not pan out.
So they offer Nelson.
But they're okay with the group of WRs they already have.
But they're willing to take Nelson or McKenzie before Quick announces.

Lol, just noticed that Loy posted the following, with a fuller article to follow later:

-- Nelson and his dad loved the trip, didn't mind the snow
-- Nelson will take other OVs.

If he's gonna take other OVs, then he's not likely to commit this week, is he?

But Loy also posted that if he waits, he risks losing his spot.

I'm starting to think nobody knows anything about Nelson yet, except that he has a committable offer but could lose it if he doesn't commit fast.

I think it is as simple as be happy to take either IM or CN if there is space, but you can't wait until you know and then reach out to a kid.

My guess is that they thought they's have an elite NT, CAT, and S earlier in the process. Since that didn't happen, they have been improvising- Tranquil, Hill, and Williams made things more complicated.

At this point the "board" for the 5 spots is...

1) Tuitt (reserved until he decides)
2) Elam (reserved until he eliminates us)
3a) Niles Morgan
3b) Micah Quick
5) JuJu Smith
6) Luatua/Shultz
7) IM/CN

I thought they liked Quick outside?

I think they see Quick as a T.J. Jones like player (but better) who can play both outside and inside, and can return punts as well.

But why give them committable offers then?

I'm wondering if the staff is hedging against not getting Quick.

I mean, based on what we've learned tonight, do we think that if Quick committed tomorrow, there would still be a spot for McKenzie/Nelson?
