Is he a take then? Kids like this (see: Bennett Okotcha) have a substantial risk of decommitting late when their dream school offers, which leaves us holding the bag.

At this point, if the kid offers his verbal and Texas hasn't offered then you tell him you will only accept if he agrees to publicly shut it down. If he agrees, the rest is in fate's hands. What else can you do? By all accounts, he's worth the risk (or else they wouldn't be pursuing him).

He's apparently worth recruiting. Whether he's worth the additional flight risk? Dunno.

OV locked in for Dec 13-14. He is coming up with his father and both are really excited to see Notre Dame.

He thinks Texas is about to offer but that offer will not end his recruitment. He likes Texas, the coaches, facilities, etc. But he said he has never seen Notre Dame so he can't compare the two.

Kelly and Diaco are going for an in-home before his OV.

That tells me they really like this kid.

Agree, but that doesn't mean he can't or won't change his mind. We've seen that story more than once.

Man, Hill and Nyles Syke's film is amazing IMO.

I'd take Hill anywhere, but any chance he can play ILB assuming we wiff on Sykes and Morgan? They're the same size FWIW. Both these guys are violent and their film was much better than Tranquill's IMO.

Per ISD, Texas isn't going to offer Hill. He's not as big as they thought he would be and will take time to develop, and they're looking for someone to play right away.

Sounds like we will be able to land him if we want him. I think he is Yeargin insurance... I don't know if we would take both.

There loss is our gain.

I should also note that I'm fairly certain (but I could be wrong, please correct me if I am) that Texas plays a 4-3 and he was being recruited at DE.

For OLB, he might not fit the ideal size profile but neither does someone like Shembo... there's a lot more flexibility in a linebacker role than strictly in the trenches.

I must be crazy (and I'm really high on Yeargin) but Hill's film >> Yeargin's.

I should just quit watching highlights.

Hill's film > Williams, Yeargin's, and Bonner's IMO,

Skyes >>> Drue Tranquill IMO. I kind of wish ND would have evaluated Sykes before Tranquill. I thought his film was much better.

I am thinking we may not have room for Hendrix with Tranquil on board. If we land the aforementioned guys, we wont need him at LB. Or I could be wrong.

That's what I have done. I tried to watch film, got into an argument with NDWorld247 and then retired from film evaluation.

Hendrix is a safety and would almost be a semi backup option for Juju

Personally, if Drue ends up at safety, I think it's a miss. He just doesn't have the open field speed to excel at it IMO. I didn't think he looked very fast in his highlights.

Speed in coverage is important, but not as important for a safety as it is for a CB. I think we did pretty well recently without a speed burner at the position in Motta.

I guess I should support my opinion with a comparison. Since we're offering more hybrid LBs now and have a moderate chance at Nyles Morgan, it seems more likely than before that Drue ends at safety. If that's the case, I'd rather have Payton Hendrix. I thought he looked more athletic and definitely didn't lack the 'big hit'.

He's run some really fast 40's.

Granted, who knows if we can trust those numbers ... but Wiltfong has consistently touted Tranquill's athleticism based on his camp showings, fwiw. It might just be too early to judge where he should play.

That is a good point. I only say that he might be left out because we already have Drue. I would like Hendrix as well.

Really I am just giddy about locking up some of these stud LBs.

That's fair enough.

I gave up believing in camp 40 times when John turner ran a 4.5 at his size. I just think there's too many variables that goes into the times (who's timing, how many times it's ran, electric or hand, on track or on field, wind no wind).

On tape (again, not my specialty) Drue simply doesn't look as fast as Hendrix did, and I thought Nyles Sykes had better LB film.

I actually think Tranquill will slide to DOG if we land some of our other LB targets. As far as I can tell, we have no one in this class that projects to that position, and Jaylon obviously played a lot this year so we don't have an obvious replacement there.

Drue is REALLY good in pass defense and can also use that speed coming off the edge in blitz packages. If we fill up at ILB, I think he's a great option at DOG.

I think Drue's highest ceiling is at DOG for sure. But I've only heard safety/ILB.
