Want Could Have Been ...

Want Could Have Been ...

After Michgan's loss to Nebraska, Notre Dame trailed in the Winningest Percentage Battle by only .00020 points. A win over PIT would have move ND back into First Place by .00002 (that's right with another zero in there) instead ND now trails by .0008.

ND has a bye next week followed by BYU and SU.

UM has Northwestern, Iowa, and OSU.

All Time Winningest Percentage through Nov 9, 2013

HTML:
	W	L	T	∑	W %
UM	903	315	36	1254	0.73445
13	6	3	0	9	0.66667
	909	318	36	1263	0.73397

ND	865	301	42	1208	0.73344

Really? Even though if we won against Pitt, we would have taken over? I hate statistics.

well, UM will probably lose next week, but we'll be underdogs too.

Does the winning percentage include bowl games?

Just ran the numbers. Even if ND and scUM both lose this upcoming Saturday, ND will still be ahead .000096 percent. Not sure what the rounding rules are for this stat. If we go by what is on that website than we are ahead by simply .00009 percent. The individual percentages would be: ND .73242 and scUM .73233

And just for shyts and gigs, an ND bowl game loss would then drop us back down into second if scum doesn't play a bowl game. And even if scUM and ND both lose bowl games, I believe we would drop back down to second.

Michigan is 7-4, my guess they are bowling.

According to these numbers, we've regained the top spot! Light up Grace Hall!

Division I-A All-Time Winning Percentage

Those numbers are wrong.

1. CFDWH data is only through the 2012 season and do not include the current season. Go look at yearly wins for any school or coach. They are not current.

2. CFDWH W/L records contain errors. Three years ago I contacted them pointing out their errors and providing documentation. They never corrected the errors.

3. Besides #1 Signs atop both my house and Grace Hall would be lit if ND was ranked #1 in the Polls.

4. ND's correct record can be found on Page 7 of the GameWeek Notes for the BYU Game. It reads "A win ... Improves Notre Dame's all-time record to 873-304-42. (the numbers I used in making my calculations.)

Ok I just used STASSEN to calculate this.

I-A Winning Percentage 1869-2012

This is what last season ended at according to their data.

BGIF, im not sure if these have any erros in them, please let me know if they do.

If I use this to calculate the percentage. After last Saturdays win on 11/23, ND is still down.

scUM .733597
ND . 733388

If ND wins on 11/30 and scUM loses they will be at,

ND .733607
scUM .733017

IF BOTH ND and scUM LOSE next week 11/30 they will be at

scUM.733017
ND .732787

If ND and scUM win a bowl game after both losing the last game of the regular season:

scUM .733228
ND .733006

If ND and scum both lose their last game of the season, but ND win their bowl game and scum loses their bowl game we are at:

ND .733006
scUM .732439

As of today:

UM .733597
ND .733388

As I noted the other day the difference is about a game.

IF ND beaten PITT, ND would be ahead at .7342.

IF UM loses to OSU and ND beats SU, ND regains the lead.

Obviously both winning or both losing maintains status quo.

Both teams are bowl eligible so there are two games in play yet ths year.

Current predictions have ND in the Pinstripe versus Rutgers. The current Sagarin Predictor Model would make ND an 18 favorite today over RU on a neutral field. RU is obviously closer to Yankee Stadium but an ND game at any NY Metro Stadium is an ND sellout. If the "home crowd" is an advantage it will be Irish.

UM is supposed to play Mississippi in the Gator Bowl. Current Sagarin gives Ole Miss a 2 point edge on a neutral field. I don't see the location giving either team an edge.

So ND should have a much more likely win but UM has a reasonable chance of winning based on Sagarin today.

Bottom Line: BEAT STANFORD! (and make the math simple)

One part of me wants to overtake UM with a win over Stanford.
The other part of me wants to hold off on over taking scUM until the ND/UM game next year.
Not only would a win over UM to close out the series be sweet, but to have that victory as the win that put ND back on top would make that victory all that much enjoyable.

All of me want to overtake them asap (beat Stanford! No way scUM beats toSU) and kick their asses next year!

Thought we got it last week????

Nah, that data was off. We were still behind by the slimmest of margins. I'm fairly certain that extra L for Michigan did the trick, and we hold the lead coming into the game tonight.

Until you stop spelling it STANDFORD, yes

For Christ's Sake, it is UNDERLINED as misspelled by IE!! How can posters NOT know that they misspelled the team name? They've only been a school for over 100 years and an Irish opponent for at least twenty years.

Stanford sounds familiar now that you mention it. Is that where that Hanratty QB played?
