So far the top free-agents have not signed and I think this plus 300 mil that Cano's representative are demanding is more than absurd. When A-Rod got a similar contract roughly ten years ago I thought it was ridiculous and Cano is not even in A-Rod's league (in his prime, that is).

So far we have:
- Tim Hudson to Giants for 23 mil/2 years.
- Marlon Byrd (16 mil/2 years) and Carlos Ruiz (26 mil/2 years) to the Phillies.
- Josh Johnson to the Padres for 8 mil/1 year.

On a side note regarding free-agents: Who do you guys think will win the Mashiro Tanaka sweepstakes? Do you think he'll be at Darvish-level?

The more I think about it the more I think the Kinsler for Fielder deal will benefit both teams down the road.

Just hope my d-backs sign a top-end starter and a shortstop. That will make them playoff contenders next season.

That Fielder contract is just so bad, though. I get that they had a logjam in the middle infield and that they really wanted Fielder when he was on the market, but I wonder if they even tried to shop Andrus to see what they could get. I'm sure that they couldn't have gotten a Fielder-level talent, but they could have gotten a decent player with a more reasonable deal. The contract could be worse than the Pujols deal by the end of it.

I read somewhere(I can't remember where, but it was a reliable source) that they talked to LA about Kemp, but it never really got anywhere.

Would the Rays do Dom Brown and Jesse Biddle (our #1 prospect) for Prive

Looks like Cards - Angels just made a trade: Bourjos - Freese.

Thank God Freese is gone, thanks for the performance in the 2011 World Series but hasn't really done much since

Why the hell would they trade Bourjos for anything other than pitching???

Well, there is talk that the Angels are considering trading Kendrick to the Dodgers for, presumably, pitching help. Angels desperately need pitching though. I wonder if they'll go all in for someone like Price.

Just saw that the Mets signed Chris Young to a one-year contract. This could be a typical Mets signing or Chris Young could actually rejuvenate his career there.

So Trout back to Center then... Cards got a hell of a defensive centerfielder there... I liked Bourjas and hate the deal.

I just wish their was another aging superstar you can give 7-10 year deal too. Todd Helton?

We just keep giving our spent talent to the Angels.

We even got something in return this time!

I say se of that in jest. I like Freese. I know he hasn't been the dude he was in '11, but he is still a damn good player that is still pretty young.

Freese will be 31 in April. Not quite young. Change of scenery will be good for him. To much pressure in STL.

Cards definitely got the better end of the deal IMO.

Andrus and Profar are supposedly still on the block.

Good trade for the Cardinals. I wonder if they're planning on platooning Jay and Bourjos or just wanted Bourjos straight up to make up for the defense in right if Craig moves back there.

The only negative that I just thought of is that this could point to the Cards not being confident in getting Beltran back. They already had Tavares for CF but now I foresee:

C Molina
1B Craig OR Adams
2B Wong
3B Carpenter
SS TBD - Someone big via a trade
LF: Holliday
CF: Bourjos OR Tavares
RF: Tavares OR Craig

Craig in RF with Adams at 1B (and possibly Tavares in CF instead of Bourjos) or Craig in 1B with Tavares in RF

If the Yankees (or anyone) give Cano a ten year contract for anything like what he's asking, they are nuts. Particularly you'd think NY has learned its lesson that such contracts kill you in the late years. And it's not like the Yanks are just "a Cano" away from winning a pennant.

I think it is pretty much a lock that Carlos Beltran is gone. If you can play Craig in RF, and then Adams at 1B you do not need to worry about Oscar too much at the beginning of the year, as I hear that the Cardinals are a little worried about his attitude. Giving him some time to cool his heels in Memphis OR invigorate him enough to play his butt off in ST sounds like a real win-win situation for STL.

Looks like STL got a steal here, but I wanna see what they do next to address the MAJOR hole at SS now.

And honestly, I do not think that STL needs a BIG name SS signing to be honest. That is not the way that the Cardinals operate. They will do what is best for the team, period. If that means holding onto more pitching until later, so be it. I trust Mozeliak after what he has done reconstructing this team since '11.
