Because we don't get a healthy sprinkling of Savannah State, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Portland State, etc. to inflate our record. It's much harder to play our schedule than a team like Alabama with two hard games all year, even those hard games are harder than our hardest games. It's just easier to only have to get up mentally once or twice a year and have a few "safety net" games out there in case of a mental letdown. If you have a mental letdown against Navy or Pitt you can lose. You have a mental letdown against Georgia State and you only win by 4 touchdowns instead of 5.

Also we don't greyshirt, we don't overrecruit, we don't pay kids, we don't have a bunch of football slacker classes for kids to not attend and still get good grades in, etc.

I agree 100% with this, and it's exactly what I was alluding to in my first post on this subject. If we don't play the game the other top 10 programs play, we are not going to be consistently on their level. Not saying we should, just saying it's the hard reality of college football.

Not to mention that they can lose those two "hard "games and still be ranked because they smashed the div 2 teams.

Get a new offensive coordinator. Martin sucks. If only Gus Malzahn dropped into our laps.

And a new defensive coordinator. Isn't there another Narduzzi out there somewhere? How can Michigan State be one of the top defenses annually with 2 and 3 star players?

I wrote earlier that I like Kelly, because he is not prone to blowouts, wins close games and has brought a tougher physicality to ND football. We rarely get blown out like we did with Willingham and Weis.

However, if Jack Swarbrick is honest that he wants ND football to be annually in BCS contention, he will have to evaluate whether in his 4 seasons how many times Brian Kelly's teams have been in BCS contention by November. If you are out of it by November, you are not in BCS contention. By this standard, Kelly has only been in BCS contention one of his four years in my opinion.

At some point, hopefully someone in the media is going to ask if Kelly is meeting the bar set by Swarbrick. It will be interesting to hear his answer, particularly if ND is out of BCS contention by November of next year.

Kelly can put this all to rest by going to a BCS bowl next year. I hope he does.

Agreed.....

I bet there are few in this forum that know it is harder to get into USC than it is ND.....

Matter of fact, Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt and USC are all harder to get into than ND.

So really, tired of hearing it is the academic standards keeping the University from competing on the football field.

I'd be willing to bet that this is true, for the average student body member. But I would be shocked to find out that USC has tougher admission standards for 5* athletes than ND does.

What the **** are you talking about?

It is common knowledge that usc is a great school.

It is common knowledge that usc doesn't hold their recruiting standards anywhere near a ND or Stanford.

It is common knowledge that you need to brush up your facts before calling anyone out, other than yourself.

Maybe so, who knows. But there is still no excuse for those arguing the point of academics being the reason for losses. I am not gearing this directly towards you at all my friend. It is just silly for any Irish fan to believe that football is more important than the education of these kids and, that they are not trying on the football field.

would love for someone in this forum to interview the players they bash and call names and say they suck; and ask them straight out, "Do you actually play to win"? ~ ridiculous

Not true. USC is not as hard to get into and Vandy is about the same. Stanford and Duke are absolutely harder to get into.

the facts you wanted. Although like Kmoose and I agree, they may not hold the student athlete to the same standards, but the proof of it harder to get into USC over ND is real.....

False. False. False. False. That doesn't mean sh*t other than that USC declines more students than ND. USC is a party school and will thus attract more unqualified applicants. When you compare test score-- an actual indicator of the quality of the applicants-- Notre Dame wins every time. Higher standards = Harder to get into to.

Nah, its comparable to ND and USC, probably slightly worse.. Interesting though with UCLA's recent recruiting success their lowest admittance had an ACT score of 15, compared to USC's lowest at 18 and ND's at 21. Alabama's was even higher at 16!

lol that doesn't mean it is "harder" it means less of the applicant pool is accepted. Come on man... use your brain a little.

What defines difficulty of getting accepted are the SAT/ACT/GPA of the admitted pool. This shows how hard it is to hit the marks you need to get accepted. Common sense.

I know I'm just jumping in here, but to Lax's point:

If School A only accepts 1:1000 applicants, and School B accepts 1:5 applicants, that doesn't make School A harder to get into if only 1:3000 applicants to School A would get into School B. It just means that the applicant pool at School B is more realistic than the applicant pool at School A.

This thread got kind of funny. First the pi$$ed off crown, needing no other introduction, followed by the "sky is falling, gloom and doom" crowd, followed by the elitist squad. Congratulations, elitists! You get to be the phagocytes of this thread!

What ever happened to the original topic? I guess now that Rome has fallen, assassinating Cesar isn't a top priority, is it?

LOL I love how every thread EVER that calls out obvious coaching/ recruiting shortcomings devolves into a academic bcs ranking show. How bout this, 4 years in as a coach you are what you are? If we are going to use these academic excuses let's stop pretending that we are serious about being a NC contender. If we are going to be then proof is in the pudding. BK is much better than the uber terrible coaching predecessors but is not elite.

This. BK may not be the best coach in college football, but he's still very good. Who are we honestly going to get to come to ND at this point, if BK wasn't the guy? Maybe we can consistently get to 10 win seasons, but it's unlikely we'll get there with another coach. We should have some consistently and keep BK around, because we'll probably be worse off with someone else tbh.

yep I agree, although he still needs to temper his arrongance when it comes to playcalling, reminds me of Kyle Shannahan for my Redskins. Sometimes just pound the rock, especially when you have a questionable QB. It's not like BK doesn't know what Rees is at this point. But no top tier coach is coming where he can't recruit regular athletes ( academics wise). My biggest beef is not having a back up to EG better than TR four years in that is really a bad mistake by him. But overall we are pretty well coached. Unlike the other coaches we have had.

Back on the topic of Kelly and ND being over sold. I like Kelly, but I would be all for taking a step back and assessing our coordinators and assistance after the season.

to get into USC :
SAT Critical Reading: 620 / 720
SAT Math: 650 / 760

to get into ND:
SAT Critical Reading: 660 / 750
SAT Math: 680 / 770

So you all are right. I was way off.

So I am sorry to have hurt you ladies' feelings and was off on the scoring to get into two very good private schools and I am dumb and do not use my head. You all are the biggest bunch of babies I swear. I have never seen a fan base that pounces on another fan of the same team when they could be off on a topic whether on purpose or accident.

A simple, 'hey chief, check your stats real quick and get back with us' could have sufficed but no, an Irish loss equates to instant a$$hole with some in this group.

Geezus, no wonder so many other fan bases hate the Irish fan base - so many a$$holes in it.....

LOL what an awful post. If you read above, then you'd see that the first poster asked you for facts. You subsequently provided these "facts." I don't know what you're crying about.
