I wasn't stirring anything. People were saying 'no way' without and evidence other than 'common sense' so I pointed to the reasons of why I was unsure how the NCAA would rule on the matter.

People need to chill out. It's ok to have a discussion.
I was on you side. Don't hate

You all left out the most exciting thing from today...

Mr. Potential had 2 catches and one for a TD. That means in the past 3 games he has had 2 TDs!

I think kuehnja was making the point that the punishment wasn't "football related" - so they didn't consult the rules of bowl eligibility in suspending him for the fall semester. That that happens to be a result of his suspension doesn't change the point that academics are academics. He just happens to also play football... Sorry if that's not the point, keuhnja.

ND doesn't make a sports specific punishment. If a student is Suspended by Res Life for du Lac infractions than they are banned from ALL extracurricular activity not just varsity sports. A cheerleader suspended in November can not cheer in a bowl game in January.

A student expelled from school for a semester or a year likewise doesn't participate in anything including classes which makes them ineligible.

Golson was NOT suspended. Nor did he have a Res Life infraction. He was expelled by the Honor Board.

Also, I'll throw out my post-game thoughts:

I love the idea of GAIII taking advantage of his height and weight and speed, but he still isn't quite getting "it." He certainly has more wiggle and has began to break more tackles, but too often he seems to be looking for the home run and not the first down.

That said, the early troubles of GAIII and CM seemed to be the product of AFA loading up the box with 8-9 within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. They were asking to be thrown on.

Loved that Robinson and Fuller got into the mix again. And Breezy, who has been mostly absent this season. Robinson just seems to catch everything. So excited about that kid.

Rees looked good, as he should have. Pass pro was giving him ample time. He was throwing high on the run and missed a couple of easy throws, but put more on the money than not. Hard to complain.

Jaylon was frustrating to watch at first as he frequently was chasing the option pitch with no outside help -- seems that he should have kept sliding out and trusted the backside DE/DT help would clean up on the QB. But when things clicked (slash Air Force was forced to play catch up) he was his usual beastly self.

Folston is good.. Yeah.

Good to see all the young guys get in on the action. And good to know that we should be back in the top 25 next week.

That's all I was trying to understand.

I couldn't care less how ND would handle it, that was never my point. My question was whether being enrolled in spring classes would make him eligible by NCAA rules.

Take a deep breath.

Spring Classes start on January 14th. The last bowl game is Jan 6th.

How could going to class 8 days after the last bowl game make one eligible to play in a bowl?

That's common sense.

So is being ineligible because the individual was NOT enrolled in school.

The Irish did what they needed to do today. That should garner some more votes in the polls. Enjoy the win then get busy tomorrow preparing for the next one.

But it's not that black and white.

At least I do not know for sure that it is, because like I said, true freshman play SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY'RE ENROLLED, while they've NEVER TAKEN A CLASS.

How would you explain that?

Again, I'M NOT SAYING IT DOES, but I would argue this logic COULD apply to the EVERETT GOLSON situation. And the 'EE' example doesn't determine anything for certain, because there could very well be a simple provision that prevents EE's from participating in a January bowl.

I'm yelling at you, disagreeing with you, but yet being respectful to you.

Please adopt this skill.

I don't think you're totally off base here. It was an interesting initial question. You very often, however, take an extra step. "Please adopt this skill"? Really?

So of the things said in the past two pages, THIS is what you found offensive?

Lol.

Yes, really.

Because they are enrolled for the fall semester and Football is a fall semester sport. How can you not understand this easy concept. Baseball is a Spring semester sport. Basketball is the only major sports that spans both. So if you are enrolled (and eligible) for fall you can play in fall semester sports including post season (bowl games in this case). If you are not enrolled and eligible you can not. Easy as pie.

I'd say hockey is a major college sport too.

Kuehnja how do you manage to get into **** with someone after every game?

Too many tough guys on the internet, people get mad too easy, hold grudges, etc. Nothing you can do about it.

I'm just a guy in a place, looking for an answer to a question that I did not know until NDWorld247 found the provision.

Yes, really.

Just trying to explain why your post might be construed as condescending and dickish.

I genuinely think that you and I would have a great time arguing over beers.

Well, I was told I was drunk, my reading comprehension was questioned more than once, and people started shouting.

After that, I hardly find my comment offensive.

And I'd drink you under the table.

No one else has your track record. Who's the internet tough guy? Again, I think we'd have a good conversation over a beer or six. :)

Lol, not going to get into names, but it happens and it's obvious if you pay attention.

It's weird, because if I argue with someone on here, I'll rep them a second later if they say something funny or make a great post. I don't keep a hit list so to speak. IDK, maybe I'm weird but I take every topic/argument separate from one another. If you say something totally stupid or rude one day, but are awesome the next, I acknowledge it.

But there's a half dozen or more posters on here that have had an argument with me in the past, and they never got over it. So to this day, they nit pick every chance they can, and ALWAYS jump on the pile once a 'credible' poster has disagreed with me because then they know they're safe.

I try not to let it bother me though because honestly they don't add much to the site.

I'm all for discussions. I'm no expert on any topic we discuss on here (recruiting, film, opponents, ND admissions, etc). But people get too upset or try to put you down because they have knowledge of something you don't. It's sad.

Does anyone think that if mermaids really exist , were trying to enroll early, and reminded you of Trindon Holliday that they should get an exemption to play in bowl games.

Covering each of the points:
1)I have never seen a mermaid, but like CFB DLine units, I don't have to have seen every creature on earth to state, IMO, that Mermaids could exist. And, there was this documentary that makes me wonder if they exist. And, if they do, would I be able to say emphatically that I would be better dressed for work than them? I think I could say that, even if I didn't know whether their shirt matched their fin color.

2)Since they are kind of like fish, and fish swim in schools, we could say they were in school. In school = enrolled (almost)

3)I never really watched LSU play, but I do remember seeing highlights of a very rainy game, and Trindon seemed to move much better on the wet field than the other players. I know that's not like the sea or anything, but the grass was kind of long so it was kind of like seaweed.

Anyhow, to me, IMO, this is pretty compelling logic for them existing/enrolling early/reminding me of Trindon Holliday/getting an exemption. You can't just respond NO outright, as this would be unprecedented.

Haha, literally LOLd.

I mean, that documentary was very convincing and I had no heads up at all before I watched it. I was confused I'll give you that, but I was more surprised because I never expected Discovery Channel to knowingly produce something that was 100% intentionally fake.

Isn't that against their mission?
