Having gone on a unofficial visit for the Michigan game last year I'd say recruits have a lot of access on the field and interaction with coaches before and after the game...and there are still some benefits of being a recruit haha

The nation's No. 1 player will land at Notre Dame
Jashon Cornell, the No. 1 player in the ESPN Junior 300, is well aware of the history. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound four-star defensive end from St. Paul Cretin-Derham Hall knows that players at his high school have traditionally landed at Notre Dame. So that's why I'm sticking with my prediction that Cornell will follow in the footsteps of former Cretin-Derham stars Michael Floyd and Class of 2013 four-star athlete James Onwualu and sign with the Fighting Irish.

I agree with this but a long way to go until then. doesn't hurt that he and james onwualu are real good friends.

Henderson was really not the same kind of player though. He's done ok at Miami but his fit with ND I believe was always in question. Some personalities will always clash with the culture of what ND is about, and I don't get that feeling from Jashon. He is by no means a lock for us, but the success we have had at CDH I believe we are in a good place for Jashon. Keep after him, keep getting James more involved, and I think we win this battle.

Why is everyone suddenly so ecstatic about what ESPN rates a kid? I'm not saying he isn't good, but 99% of the time people on here write off anything football recruiting related with ESPN.

i just posted insider info from them....anytime we are mentioned in taking a number 1 player in nation or by all other services a top 10 player...usually something to get excited about..especially being on the defensive line

Oh I know. I'm just giving people a hard time. This kid would be a huge pickup for ND. I just like to laugh at the irony of selective rankings (aka using the highest rating regardless of service when mentioning a prospect).

How did the thing with Manti work out? What about Jaylon? HMMM, maybe it is about the quality of the player not the numeric value assigned by monkeys in the back room.

"After a lot of hours we narrowed it down to Cal, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Stanford, USC and Wisconsin," he said.

Jared Shanker/ESPN
DE Jashon Cornell, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2015, has narrowed his list down to 15 or so.
Cornell says that there are four other schools – Arkansas, Nebraska, Penn State and Texas -- that aren't officially on the list, but he calls them dark horse candidates

haha... so every major program in the country?

Plus Iowa and Cal. Not much SEC though.
And did he really list them in alphabetical order while talking to a reporter? That's a little sick. (hoping he was reading a list).

I think you misunderstood my post.

ESPN is notoriously held in the lowest regard for football rankings, but because they listed him as their #1 player for next year, everyone is using them as the standard when talking about Jashon. I'm not saying he is/isn't. I'm just saying that I find humor in the convenience of using the highest ranking, regardless of which service provided it.

It was a general, semi-sarcastic post. Moving on now...

I consider Espn to be one of the top football spots, maybe behind 247. rivals has fallen off the map, and scout no longer really cares about football anymore. They are all in for basketball. Espn is lazy but they cover the south extremely well and that is where the best football talent is.

Better check your map again. Jashon is from MN.
