And what would that look like, exactly?

Well, I listened to it, and while I can't recall the exact phrasing of the Q&A, the gist of it was that Tommy was cleared early enough in the week that they will basically just treat this week of practice like any other week. Hendrix will take some 1st team reps, and Malik will take some 2nd team reps, but they will proceed as if Tommy is healthy and just keep an eye on him.

Having said that, I'm hoping Hendrix does get significant garbage time. If we learned anything from Saturday night, it's that he really needs some game reps to be an effective backup.

Definitely agree with this. I don't think Hendrix is anywhere near as bad as he looked against USC. Night game, big rivalry, he had the jitters, and he probably already doesn't have very much confidence. So he doesn't have ice in his veins like Rees. But we've seen him make some good passes. I don't want him to be the starter, but I think he can be a serviceable change-up. He's a tough runner and he's got a cannon. He doesn't have very good touch but he can definitely throw it up long. And I distinctly remember a beautiful pass he made against Stanford on an out route for a TD. 3 bad passes doesn't make him as bad of a QB as some people seem to think (I don't think the deep pass to Davaris was any worse than some of the floaters Rees throws).

I am serious. How do you prepare for someone who looked entirely unprepared to play himself?

I think he has too much pride to play like that again. He knows he didn't play well, and now that he has seen just how much "next man in" applies, I think he'll be a lot better next time we see him. He definitely needs to work on the read-option though - some of his reads were atrocious. As far as the passing, the last throw to Davaris wasn't that bad - I think he'll be fine.

This. Kelly basically said that today. He said something along the lines of, Coach Martin, Andrew and I were all surprised by how bad Andrew played, but he's a competitor and I'm confident he will play better if called upon again.

Gunner can throw the ball and move ....seriously?

Yeah, the guy can't stay around and fight for a job. If he can't beat out Tommy and seemed to be scared of Zaire, how do you think he will react when he is in a high pressure game situation? My bet is just like Hendrix. No Thanks.

I said this after the spring game. Never was high on Gunner once he pulled the signing day stunt with LSU.

I'll take a passionate, win at all costs, with limitations QB over a skilled, "has no chest", QB every day of the week.

Tommy has been, and still is the man this season. I think he and the receivers are really getting into a rhythm. I like that freshmen like Robinson and Fuller are getting meaningful reps in games, and not just in garbage time. We're setting up to have a very nice receiving core in the coming years. That'll be nice when guys like Golson and Zaire are playing.

I am probably alone in this. But Tommy has an arm. Air Force sucks, but you still gotta have an arm to make the throws. He has improved strength over the last few years. He was straight dealing yesterday.

I could not watch the game but I think most people now understand he is our best option and the first seven games would be the rough part of our season We came out 5-2. We can now get our young guys meaningful time as well and have our two-deep ready to take on Stanford. BCS is still not off the table.

Pitt is always a war no matter what and BYU will be a real challenge to say the least. I will be floored if we still have only 2 losses heading into Tree.

Navy beat Pitt yesterday and I am inclined to think that we will beat both. BYU presents a similar opponent as ASU with a better defense. That will be a brawl no doubt. In the end, all the remaining teams will prepare us to play a power running team while containing a mobile quarterback. If we prepare and execute against Navy, Pitt, and BYU, I have no doubt we will be able to at least give Stanford a tough game. I have thought that we would end up 9-3 and hoping for 10-2.

I like the way you guys think!

Especially if Tommy is off the hook accurate and the WR's step up like yesterday!

Pitt tends to gives us a fight, much like Purdue, regardless on what the record is that year. Of course, the same can be said for many opponents, but thats the way Pitt tends to go. I'm not as worried about Navy if we execute like we did against Air Force, the result should be fairly similar. BYU will probably bring a battle of defenses again. Against Stanford we'll need better offensive production than we had last year I think.

The Pitt game should be better for us. We should hopefully hang 40 on them.

Actually, Tommy, in any full-perspective way of looking at it, has already earned a "legendary" status. "The Blue-collar Gymrat, without great athleticism and thrown into immensely stressful circumstances from his freshman year on, holding up under vicious criticism by many off-base fans, booed in his own stadium, yet warrioring on to many many victories and mountains of statistics, even as some still whine and complain."

I think that Notre dame should find some way to specially honor him, both post-season and "permanently" on a Wall of Honor in the athletic department. His "life" as a Notre Dame quarterback has been astonishing and he personifies the hard-working Man, who will spill blood for you and his mates.

If you must "go to War", you do it with guys like Rees.

His story isn't fully written yet and has the potential to finish at a legendary level. Time will tell.

He's completing only 55% of his passes this year (which will most likely be his best season)...that kinda scares me.

II put out a good article on Tommy relative to other QB's from the 2010 class. Basically saying that he has more wins than any other QB from that class and he was rated #61 in that class. Connor Shaw is #2 and was passed by Tommy when they lost to Tennessee and we beat USC.
