This. I don't see why we would hesitate to take 3.

We don't over-sign. I remember reading over the summer that we would take up to 10 front-seven players. Well, we already have seven (Hayes, Trumbetti, Martini, Yeargin, Bonner, Blankenship and Dickerson). We need at least one ILB (Tranquil and/or Morgan) and we are still after some elite CAT prospects (Carter and Williams).

Normally I would say take all the big bodies you can, but at some point the numbers are a concern. I still really like our chances with Holley and would be VERY surprised if we landed Elam.

Do you think this is more about the (un)likelihood - or at least uncertainaty - of landing one of Elam or Holley or more about how much Smalwood has progressed?

So Loy's response to the question wasn't very helpful, haha. He said that the staff doesn't want to get shutout at DT going forward but they've been evaluating Tashon for awhile and like what they've seen. Welcome addition. They truly believe they have a shot at Elam and Holley.

Are the numbers tight this year? How much space do we have?

We have 16 and need, at least:
2 lbs, 1 CB, 1 S, and 1 DT.

That is 21.

We are likely to also take 2 more WRs, and a TE. That is 24.

An additional DT gets you to 25?

Can we take more than that?

It's been a while since I looked at it, but I thought we were looking at 22-24. That was also before the Badger transfer so maybe it's 23-25 now. Also, that "10 front-seven players" tidbit was before Hood's de-commitment. If we don't sign another RB maybe that number moves to eleven.

I guess my point was I don't see a scenario where we get all three DT/NT (Smallwood, Holley, Elam), and even if we did, could we fit them in with the numbers? I'm sure there's a scenario where we could, but I like your breakdown and that's with only two DTs.

I believe so as we always lose one or two that are verbals. Also a few transfers seem inevitable. If we win out we take all we can IMHO .

FR + SO + JR = 58

85 - 58 = 27 available spots for 5Ys + 2014 commits

27 - 16 current commits = 11 spots for 5Ys and new commits

2 WRs, 1 TE, 2 LBs, 1 CB, 1 S and 1 DT would mean only 3 5Ys, unless there's attrition. We'll likely end up with 2-3 more spots due to transfers/ medicals.

thanks! I hope the attrition happens while we can capitalize on it...

I'm not completely sure. I would venture its a little of both. Including him reaching out to ND. I'll ask Steve and Tom and get back to you with what they say.

Much love. Someone please rep for me- I'm on my phone..

Thanks again! Reps headed your way as soon as I can.

Wiltfong recently answered your question as well Piombino. He said that interior DL is a priority for ND moving forward and we need to make sure to get another talented DT.
