This season is not a disappointment if we run the table until Stanford and go 9-3. If that happens we will probably end up in a bowl we are better than, an end up 10-3.

If we go 9-3 that beats the Vegas line... Can't be disappointment. If we win 8, that's half a game under the Vegas line... so even that isn't a big disappointment.

What a crappy list -- Michigan lost in 4 OT after two chances to win it and Texas just killed their biggest rival when nobody expected them to... not to mention we are 4-2. I don't mind being called a disappointment when we're obviously going 6-6 or 3-9 but at 4-2 with the soft part of our schedule coming after USC I fail to see what they're getting at. "Oh no, we're not national championship contenders and could easily make a BCS bowl if we win out, we obviously suck."

Give me a break. F ESPN.

Eh, I think the list stems from the so-called "eye test". UM and ND haven't passed that test very well this year.

This may be an unpopular opinion but if we don't get two out of three with wining our bowl, beating USC, and upsetting Stanford I will consider this season a disappointment. I felt 2011 was a disappointment because we finished with loses and let USC beat us on top of the bad start. I said in another thread that I knw some people didn't feel the same but I felt it was. If we can beat USC (I know they're down but beating your nemesis is an awesome feeling no matter what) and win a bowl with everything that's we have been through this season I'll say we had a decent year. If we can do all three I'll call it great year ( assuming we don't drop any to the service academies). We get only one I will feel disappointed and if we don't get any I'll consider this year a failure. You have every right to disagree but that's just kinda how I feel this year.

Who's really set up for disappointment is Ohio State. They're going to go undefeated and will probably finish like 5th in the BCS Standings.

Nah, it always shakes out that only 2 unbeatens remain. Look at last year. No one here thought we had a chance. The Jfootball happened. Then KState laid an egg. The Oregon flopped.

Hence the disappointment -- Ohio State's poised to get passed by many 1-loss teams.

they started out too high on the preseason rankings to dip below 1 loss teams.. we were unranked at the start of last year and didn't dip below 1 loss teams at the end of the year.. pains to me say it because I hate Ohio, but unless Oregon and Bama run the table, an undefeated Ohio will play for the NC

I'd rather have Alabama play in the NC than OSU. We're already being pinched by Michigan in recruiting, last thing we need another midwest school blowing up.

Plus I hate Urban Meyer.

Right now the computers' average rank for them is 8th, behind one-loss LSU, and even today they're only about .09 ahead LSU in the simulated BCS rankings. And they're schedule only gets worse, relatively, while others' gets harder. Consider this: they could finish the regular season without playing one ranked team (currently only Wisconsin is ranked, and they're last). Their best hope is the BIG10 Championship Game.

Then, they would have to be ahead of a one-loss PAC12 team (which could be Oregon) or a one-loss FSU or Clemson who loses in the regular season but wins the ACC champ. game. Obviously nothing's written in stone, but it's more than likely that if they win-out they won't be in the NCG.

I'm not saying any of you are wrong because the BCS system as a whole makes my head hurt but I have a hard time believing that if Ohio State is the only undefeated team or one of two undefeated teams the will be in the NCG.

So I guess it's not just the posters with negative rants during gamedays who think this...

ESPN's disappointment stems from THEIR preseason expectations as expressed in the ESPN Preseason Power Poll. Those expectations were as irrational as the vapid, emotiposter rants in the GameDay threads.

NCAA College Football Power Rankings Preseason - ESPN

13. ND - "The South Bend glory was partially restored last season with Notre Dame running the regular-season table en route to the national championship game. It's now up to Tommy Rees to take it all the way."

All the way, really? Who picked ND to go all the way? Notice no mention of the MLBs, secondary, or RBs.

14. UM - "QB Devin Gardner will be the key in his first full season as starter. Michigan has questions at running back, on the O-line and at wide receiver, other than Jeremy Gallon. But with a favorable schedule, Michigan has an outside shot to make a BCS run."

Uh, UM has lost one Game in 4 OTs and still has a "outside shot to make a BCS run".

14. UTX - "Everything sets up for 2013 to be a big year for Texas: 19 returning starters, a third-year quarterback in David Ash and a wide-open Big 12 with no consensus favorite. All that has Texas aiming for a conference title and a BCS bowl -- and maybe more."

No mention of Mack Brown on The Hotseat, and BYU and Ole Miss doesn't fit the SEC cream puff Out of Conference Scheduling Mode, does it?

24. USC - "USC is again loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. The big question is replacing Matt Barkley. Max Wittek and Cody Kessler are battling it out there, but whoever wins the job will have Marqise Lee on the other end of his passes."

Guess Lane Kiffin having the preseason lock on The Hotseat wasn't worth mentioning, nor the sanctions, nor the rash of preseason injuries. Was ESPN considering Kiffen as Coach of the Year while everyone else was familiar with his record in the NFL, Tennessee, and his start at USC?

33. UNC w/all of 11 points. I didn't realize UNC was a top program ... when they're not cheating.

No mention of #6 UGA, #17 OU, #18 TCU, #21 BSU, or #23 Ore St.

My list:

1. Texas A&M

Only one loss but their defense is horrible. There is a reason they will finish third in the SEC West again. Now shut up Aggie fans... until you win something in the SEC you are nothing.

2. South Carolina

Having to depend on somebody else to beat the team you didn't in order to go to the SEC championship is disappointing.

3. Michigan

Probably the worst 5-1 team in America. The current coaching staff reminds me of Tommy Tuberville and Gene Chizik. Can recruit four and five star players but can't coach them up at all. Their on the field performance is laughable thus far.

4. Oklahoma

In a year that any mediocre team can win the Big 12, Stoops goes out and gets throttled by an unwhelming Texas team. At what point does Stoops start feeling a little heat? He needs to - his teams underperform on a regular basis recently.

5. Florida

How can you not have an offense and your school resides in one of the most talented states for big time college football players? The loss of the QB hurt, but they weren't doing very well with him anyway. The Gator defense can only do so much and played well enough to beat LSU last weekend.

The rest:

Stanford

Should have lost to UW and did lose to Utah. Thought they were overrated before the season started and still think they are.

Georgia

The only reason they aren't in the Top 5 is because they have played one of the most difficult schedules thus far and have been hit hard with the injury bug. But to lose to Mizzou? Georgia's second string should have been able to beat Mizzou. Plus, Richt will never lead the Bulldogs to the promised land. Personally, I hope they keep him around forever.

Notre Dame

Both losses this year could have very easily been wins as both opponents are in my Top 5 disappointments. It's the little things that have hurt the Irish. If they do those things correctly, they are undefeated heading in to USC.

USC

Just because they are USC. I hope they keep disappointing me for years to come.

A lot of football left to play so there is time for everyone to turn it around. It will be interesting to see who is standing at the end of the year.

List doesn't look too far off to me. People bitch about ESPN not liking us (I agree) yet about this to. It should be good that with 2 losses, one to a bad UofM team amd the other to an OU team that just got raped by Texas, we are a disappointment. That means they expected better like many of us. The opposite of their usual ND sucks and is overrated approach.

What's funny is that many people seem to think we should have beaten UM and OU. I don't know how anyone can say we're not a disappointment through the first half of the season.
