@eTruth_Irish: Clarification from earlier, #NotreDame instilled a policy two years ago that it would go into locker room immediately after a loss (cont)

Instilled a policy my butt. Sing the alma mater. Fire whoever the heck tried to "instill" that policy.

Let's go ahead and "instill the policy" where we paint the golden dome black, skip the player walk and redo the TD Jesus mural to cross his arms. That's ridiculous.

The policy is to go back to the locker room after a home loss, regroup, then come back out and sing the alma mater

That's really odd

Very strange. So the students are supposed to hang around and have our afternoon tea while the team "regroups" before we sing? Not saying I wouldn't stay (I would, of course), but that would be a pretty weird experience.

Makes me a little less mad at the players, and a little more mad at the policy makers.

Oh, and you might want to tell the people playing the alma mater (aka the band) of the new policy before trying to enforce it.

If that's really the case and not some ***-covering, that's even stupider.

@eTruth_Irish: (Cont.) Players will collect thoughts, then come back out to sing the Alma Mater. Some players remembered, some players forgot.

^^^This policy is super ridiculous and has never ever been followed. To whom do I address my letter of concern?

Hey guys!!! Just got done playing a sweet game called Jump to Conclusions, where the winner gets a foot in their mouth!!!.

But in all seriousness, rough loss but lets not all sound like butt hurt lil weeners. It is a game (which apparently many here have never played to understand the blood sweat and tears these YOUNG men are putting in) and not to judge unless we are in the know, which most here are not. Reeeeelax, again it is a game.

That is a bizarre policy. No one's coming back out on to the field in that situation.

The game is a game. I understand that. I'm disappointed that we lost, but proud of all of the hard work that a lot of the players put in. And the fight that a lot of them showed.

That being said, the University is more than a game, and that's what I feel has been disrespected. Lose football games. Fine. As long as you put in a solid effort. But don't disrespect my University.

I've been watching since 1965. I don't know who started the stupid tradition of swaying after the game, I know it wasn't Ara or Devine and don't recall Holtz doing it, but I hope Kelly stops it.

So you're against building a sense of community and showing that our University is bigger than a game. Cool.

"Rain or shine, win or lose, the student body will still be there at the end of every Notre Dame home game to honor their classmates on the field. Staying through the Alma Mater no matter what the game’s result is is considered a badge of honor. Of course…all bets are off if the student body ends up on the field, wildly celebrating."

That, my friends, is from our University's official website. Soooo....

In the future, after a loss, expect #NotreDame to head straight to the locker room, not take part in Alma Mater post-game.

The corollary is to expect a resounding chorus of boos from the student section, elsewhere.

That's bullshit. if that were the case, we'd have never sung the Alma mater while I was there. the students aren't going to wait around after a bad loss where the coach gave up with 5 minutes left. You sing it with the students, win or lose.

And expect me to be super angry. I don't care if it was started a century ago or a week ago. It's a great showing of caring more about the University than about the game. It's one thing not to do it win or loss. It's another to hold your head between your legs after a loss and beat your chest after a win. That's classless in my opinion.

So it is your University? More than theirs? If they don't want to do it then why make them.

Time for the players to take back the team!

Absolutely not, and that's my entire point. We are equal as students, and that's why either everyone should sing it, or no one should sing it. What is this "we're taking our ball and going home" attitude?

The idea is, we sing the alma mater win or lose because we "love thee Notre Dame" and everything that goes into the game is about more than just the game. It's about our community. It's about our shared experience. It's about our University.

In my eyes it's sort of like the deal with the National Anthem. If you don't want to sing it, fine. That's your choice. It's a free country. But do we still play it at important events? Heck yeah, we do. Because it's America, and that's part of how we take pride in our country. If some players don't want to sing, fine. But this is Notre Dame, and that's part of how we take pride in our University.

Yeah, I am against it. Notre Dame football isn't about "building a sense community" it is about being the baddest football team in the land that will stomp your butt into submission. That is what built ND, not your pussyfooting nonsense. ND never did it until that fat a$$ Weis started it. It needs to end. The sooner the better.
