As of Sunday evening it seemed as though ND had inched in front of Purdue but after speaking with the Purdue staff this week he is still struggling to come to a decision. Elston has also been in contact with Drue this week and Wiltfong wouldn't be surprised to see a decision this week. He still predicts ND.

What's the struggle? Is it the engineering program and or course load?

There's a couple layers to this, IMO. First, he has built a very very good relationship with the coaches and really just everybody associated with Purdue. Like others have stated on here before he is a very thoughtful kid, breaking a commitment is probably a tough thing for him to do. Lastly, there is a tug of war going on between do I want to play with the best (ND) but maybe it takes some more time to get on the field, or do I want to be the best (Purdue) and help turn this team around from.

Is this kid really that good?

There may even be a sublayer to your second point. He knows he will most likely be seeing the field as a ST standout early on at ND, but he doesn't quite fit with his tweener frame. So this may be a question of if he really WANTS to be seen as an eventual ILB.

I think he's much better than the rankings give him credit for. Its just two different places. Below is a link to there recruiting class. IMO, he's good enough to get a serious look at immediate playing time at Purdue. Is he good enough to single-handedly turn the team around, obviously not nobody is.

I remember in the build up to the ND game some Purdue writers saying they were crying out for LB help and Tranquill and Gelen Robinson could start from day one next year if they both eventually sign.

This is there depth chart at LB according to the rivals purdue site.

Strong-side linebacker
31 A. Williams 6-3, 230,
40 C. Link 6-2, 208,
Weak-side linebacker
10 S. Robinson 6-3, 240,
2 A. Garcia 6-0, 218,
Middle linebacker
39 J. Gilliam 6-1, 225,
45 W. Lucas 5-11, 236,

This is ours

9 Jaylon Smith | 6-2, 230, FR
30 Ben Councell | 6-5, 254, JR

55 Prince Shembo | 6-2, 258, SR
11 Ishaq Williams | 6-5, 261, JR
45 Romeo Okwara | 6-4, 258, SO

44 Carlo Calabrese | 6-1, 250, SR
8 Kendall Moore | 6-1, 251, SR
38 Joe Schmidt | 6-0, 230, JR

59 Jarrett Grace | 6-3, 253, JR
48 Dan Fox | 6-3, 245, SR
42 Michael Deeb | 6-2, 242, FR

Huge difference is size. The only guy that stands out is Jaylon and though I think Drue is a wonderful athlete, he's not Jaylon at OLB.

If ND had offered earlier this wouldn't even be a discussion. The staff is really "careful" with their offers and sometimes it puts them in a bind. IMO, they need to go with more non-committable early offers like Michigan and Alabama do to avoid situations like this.

Yuck, how does anyone get excited about rooting for Purdue?

Sounds like he's just trying to get enough nerve to be able to say goodbye to Purdue. I'm sure he's a kid with a lot of intergrity, and backing out on his word is hard on him.

If it's true that he stated that if ND offered earlier it wouldn't be a discussion I think it's a matter of time before he flips. Granted he has developed a solid relationship with Purdue and the coaching staff. At the end of the day the timetable of an offer shouldn't be much of a factor.

As others have said, sounds like he's building up the nerve and covering all bases before he pulls the trigger on flipping, and rightfully so.

Dear GreenSox,

Your sig gif is horrid. Not only in the poor visual quality and massive size, but also because it's a Red Sox gif.

I have no idea what they are even doing in it because of the poor graphics. Please, for the love of god, remove it.

Love Always,

Looks like Drue has been trying to make a decision this week.

Because both Purdue and Proverbs both start with P?

Kind of being tongue in cheek, and really reading the tea leaves, but I was thinking that human wisdom, which the scripture downplays, would tell you he should take the Irish as the superior program, but the scripture seems to be saying to disregard the wisdom of man, so maybe he's inspired to go with his gut feeling, or original feeling (Purdue?), and trust the Lord that that's the right thing.

Obviously, I'm totally guessing and being off the wall.
