Because of ?

1. $3.7 million salary

2. $5 million buyout

3. Wish to coach in SEC which rejected him

4. Marriage

5. Other

Only school that could entice him is Florida. He and his family love Louisville and he loves working for Tom Jurich who may very well be the best AD in the country. He doesn't have any interest in Big 12. Was thrilled UL got into ACC instead of Big 12. If Dodds really does resign I wouldn't be surprised to hear the name of Petrino come up. Don't think Dodd would hire him but a new AD may very well look at Petrino.

Not sure why I want Bo Pelini out at Nebraska so bad.

If I'm Pat Haden, my first call is to Chris Petersen. If I'm DeLoss Dodds, I'm first of all lobbying to keep my own job, and then making a call to Gary Patterson. Both those guys seem like natural fits at USC and Texas, respectively, and have proven themselves to be among the best coaches in college football over long careers.

Charlie Strong wants the South Carolina job. It's his favorite place in sec, and perhaps even more importantly, it's his wife's favorite place in sec. Spurrier has said he will retire when he hits 70...which is very soon.

Texas needs somebody who can kill it with the high school coaches and programs instate-- like Mack was able to do so well, as has been chronicled well over the years. Strangely though, Mack never had a ton of "Texas inroads." He was OC at Oklahoma and HC at Tulane, which I'm sure helped him a little, but not in the manner that allowed him to rule the roost there for a decent spell. My guess is Texas would try and keep it in state or bring in a guy out of state who has strong Texas roots...but they did have a lot of success with Brown who was neither. So we'll see. I'd be shocked if Texas and Strong ever materialized.

that would be scary...african american coach who is good in Texas

Not gonna happen though. Even Muschamp to Texas is a big IF. He realizes that in the world of Texas football, the Aggies have the upper hand right now. And Muschamp isn't winning the state of Florida either so what makes him think he could win the Texas recruiting battles? But... the right coach at Texas could be huge for them. The thoughts of a coach shoring up all that talent AND being able to coach them would be tremendous.... and scary.

Charlie would go to S. Carolina and Florida. After that, I don't think he is interested.

Sorry. Not gonna happen as Strong going to Texas. Not that they wouldn't hire an African American coach.

Petersen, imo, just doesn't seem like the type of person who would want to deal with a big city like LA.

You may be right but that doesn't mean Haden won't try. I think Petersen would accept if offered - this is USC after all, probably one of the top 3 coaching jobs in all of college football.

I really think Texas' first two phone calls... assuming ND wins 9+ games... will be to the head coaches of either NC game team from last season...

where it goes from there,... who knows, long time between then and now.

Petersen has turned down Stanford and UCLA, among others, over the past several years. UCLA offered double his current salary and he still declined. I understand USC is a bit different, but I just find it hard to believe he will leave Boise St any time soon.

Strong has no interest in the SC job. He was only there for two years and that was 14 years ago. He's already been at Louisville longer and he and his wife are very involved in the community. After turning down the Tennessee job he made it known that coaching in the SEC was no longer a big deal to him.

His situation reminds me a bit of Brad Stevens at Butler. He'll leave if the situation is right.

SIAP...I have a feeling Pelini will be shown the door soon.

From deadspin...link won't work due to all of the expletives.

This is fun. Here we have an audiotape of Nebraska football coach Bo Pelini flipping his **** about both the media and the Cornhuskers' fans after a 2011 game. Why are we getting this now? Well, our tipster was particularly exercised by Nebraska's flameout against UCLA on Saturday, which has led to some awkwardness in Huskerdom. In the 2011 audio, Pelini says the word "****" a lot. He seems to have no idea he was being recorded.

Our tipster says the recording was made on Oct. 8, 2011, just after Nebraska had come back from three touchdowns down to beat Ohio State in Lincoln. He or she only recently had come into possession of this audio before sending it our way. It was recorded moments before Pelini did his postgame radio interview with Greg Sharpe of the Husker Sports Network. Pelini sounded anything but relieved by the big victory.

In the recording, Pelini is talking to Sharpe and to a woman whose identity we've been unable to determine. Pelini initially seems upset with an unknown person who works at the Omaha World-Herald, whom he calls "a piece of ****." [Update (5:31 p.m.): As another reader has since noted, Pelini wasn't happy with the World-Herald's Dirk Chatelain during his presser after the Ohio State game. Pelini had been angry about this Chatelain column.] Pelini then begins venting about World-Herald columnist Tom Shatel: "**** him, too. **** him. That's what I'm going to tell him. He wants to walk out after my press conference? I'm gonna say, 'Get the **** away from me. I'm done with you, mother****er. I'm done with him.'"

All of that is just the prelude to Pelini's message for the Huskers' fans: "It took everything in my power to not say, '**** you, fans. **** all of you.' **** 'em." After Sharpe says a lot of students had left at halftime, the woman starts to say that people did return to their seats. Pelini interjects: "Our crowd. What a bunch of ****ing fair-weather ****ing—they can all kiss my *** out the ****ing door. 'Cause the day is ****ing coming now. We'll see what they can do when I'm ****ing gone. I'm so ****ing pissed off."

Sharpe then changes the subject by pointing out how Pelini's "guys showed some guts." A moment later he gets ready to roll the tape for the actual interview.

Update (8:40 p.m.): Nebraska's chancellor and athletics director respond.

Update (8:54 p.m.): Bo Pelini has responded:

I want to sincerely apologize for my comments from two years ago which became public today. I take full responsibility for these comments. They were spoken in a private room following the Ohio State game. I was venting following a series of emotional events which led to this moment. That being said, these comments are in no way indicative of my true feelings. I love it here in Nebraska and feel fortunate to be associated with such a great University and fan base. I again apologize to anyone whom I have offended.

Gonna be great when my Jackrabbits put the final nail in Pelini's coffin this weekend. "Not my true feelings"... Yeah right! The country will be introduced to Zack Zenner on Saturday. Go Jacks!

I still think Will Muschamp is an option here for Texas...but what do I know.

What about promoting Major Applewhite? Or is that just a bob Davie type move?

I think the Texas Tech coach is really good. He's only 33, but he is going to be getting a big job offer in a year or two.
