No it's not.

Yes it is. That's why it's only said about QBs.

Sure, you can dig through the history of football and find an example it would apply to a DL, WR, etc., but it's almost always for QBs since they have such an impact on the game and their decisions matter way more than any other player's on any team.

That's why the phrase is coined the way it is. 2nd string QBs, not '2nd string -fill in the blank-'.

That's the way it is phrased, yes, and I agree that it is because the QB is the most visible position. But to think it is only said about QBs is simply not true. We see on ND alone all the time that it isn't true.

Bryant / Folston / Carlisle over GAIII and Cam? Grace over Carlo? Redfield over Collinsworth? People always clamor for the 'next best thing' when they are not personally completely satisfied with what they have. I am sure it has happened at most positions throughout college football, if not all.

I agree that for ND's RB situation, some people think that's the case (I'm even one of them if you're saying take away from GAIII and give to Cam/GB/TF). Do some people actually think Redfield should be starting? I haven't read anything about that, but could be.

Anyways, my point is, 95% of the time that fans think this way it's the QB position. Beyond than that, agree to disagree.

I definitely agree that the most vocal and usual is the QB position, but it does happen at other positions. That was just my point.

(And yes, there have been people on boards clamoring to see Redfield back there instead of Farley / Collinsworth to increase athleticism. While he definitely has the most potentially and highest ceiling, there is a reason he isn't back there right now. If he was mentally ready, he would be playing, just like Jaylon.)

Serious (and dumb) question. How is Amir a "Notre Dame Football Player" and Louis Nix a "Notre Dame Football Signee"?

oh and

bump.

His title was changed because it used to say "Notre Dame Transfer" next to his name and around the time we had 2-3 transfers a few months ago it kept us all a little more sane to change it to Football Player

Cool thanks. IDK if it was something like Verbal, Signee, Player, Man, Legend or some increasing importance qualifier like that.

Appreciate it.

"Trasferred To ND" would be more informative (and a lot shorter).

They are all Notre Dame Football Players otherwise they wouldn't be in that section of the Forum.

With the amusement I found in this, I figured it had to be shared.

Eew. TMI.

On another note, I really hope Amir finds a way onto the field next year. Maybe as a slot. Too talented to sit, even if he's not RB1 (or 2 or 3)

I think with the crowded backfield he really should have started in the Slot to begin with. Slot is probably filling up too, but Amir is the kind of guy you need to get into space. He's shown that running between the tackles isn't his forte.

I really think he needs to sure up his receiving game, because odds are the slot is the only place he stands a chance to see extensive PT.

Slot? Don't you have to be able to catch the ball?

Maybe he just had a mental block all year, and the offseason will allow him to clear his head. He had so much promise, but if he doesn't get his stuff together, he'll have a hard time finding the field.

I honestly believe that Carlisle, Prosise, and Chris Brown will all have tremendously increased value with Golson under center versus Rees. I think this was a lost year for all of them because what we ended up doing on O did not fit what their strengths are.

For down hill running with an immobile QB under center I don't really think he fit what we wanted to do. McDaniel and Folston were clearly the best suited for what our game plan evolved into by week 6.

This is one of the best points I have seen lately. Has a lot to do with "offensive coordination" this year too. Run game and pass blocking, I would wager.

I can't believe Amir showed up at my house today. No wonder he can't catch.
