I wish Greg Bryant were in that picture to show off all our ridiculously jacked 5-star freshmen.

^so that's what it looks like to have Alabamaesque players in ND uniforms.

Gonna be a bright future.

Everything points to Jaylon Smith being at a minimum "the real deal" and that the only person who could limit his on-field reps was an extremely under-rated super football player named Danny Spond. So, absolutely, Jaylon is that good.

As far as the Councell quote is concerned, Ben's response to the comment that he and Jaylon would both see a lot of the field was: that's news to me; I haven't been told anything yet about playing time. Councell's response was [to my ear] simply that he was right in line with Kelly's mantra that we're all out here competing, and whatever happens as to reps happens later. Didn't sound to me like a "surprise" statement at all. In fact Ben said nice things about Jaylon.

I think it might have been more about the staff not even discussing the depth chart up until then. Sounds like Ben was just concentrating on playing football and not worried about the external distractions.

For Jaylon to start says mountains about his physical and mental makeup and abilities. About the only time you see a freshman start is at RB or WR and that's because those positions are a little easier to play right away. He is going to be fun to watch.

The way these jackasses on ESPN talk about these freshman starting for Ole Miss, you would think Jaylon would get some kind of pub.

IMO had a very solid game on Saturday, a lot more noticeable than vs Temple. Wish he had picked off that pass though. Would have been a game changer.

Agree 100%, really like what I saw from Jaylon on Saturday. He made several one-on-one tackles in space that saved a good 5-10 yards if he didn't make them. He still looked a little lost on a few pre-snaps, but that will go away with experience. I think by the time Oklahoma rolls into town, you will barely see him off the field.

I think we win the game with that INT. Still, he played better than just about every LB on our team. Kid's going to be awesome to watch for the next 3-4 years.

I must've been out of the room taking a leak. When was this "INT opportunity?"

2nd quarter...gardner was rolling to his right and threw the ball right into jaylon's hands...while it did hit him in the hands it was to his side...a wr would have caught it..NO ONE was around

He's already better than Fox or Calabreese. The fact that he caught Gardner from behind was just amazing.

Ha I did the same ... and then regretted it yesterday because I wanted to watch the game again. Sometimes on a second viewing your analysis changes.

i can't stand watching our games a second time when on ESPN/ABC if we lose. Musberger is too much to deal with.

You know, someone else posted how Jaylon did not catch Devin Gardner. But I saw him run him down when Gardner was passing; Gardner getting a hurried throw away, and I thought I saw Jaylon Smith bringing Gardner down from behind on a good gain that could have been a great gain. Am I crazy or did I see these things? I never looked at my dvr of this game, I just deleted it yesterday, also!

On one play in particular yes... he did chase him down and saved probably 15+ more yards on the run.
